    Your paint job is amazing.
  2. Oops, late night brain fade. I was thinking of the Fairlady 2000 JDM private imports we got down here. I have seen flat top carbs and fuel injection on them. Depending on the year I suppose. I actually got up at 1am to try to edit that, but was unable to connect. More brain fade perhaps.
  3. Hi Albert. Koalia is correct. There should be a vacuum hose from the inlet manifold to the distributor. Where does the hose in the last picture come from? If it comes from the inlet manifold, then remove the bolt, and determine if there is suction there with the engine running. If it doesn't, then attach a hose from the unused fitting near the centre of the manifold to the dizzy. Idle should be 7-800 RPM or thereabouts. Haynes put out a good book---DATSUN 240z & 260Z OWNERS WORKSHOP MANUAL. Lots of good reading there. Your engine has carbs from a 240Z, which will run well. Someone has swapped in a 260 and put 240 carbs on there. Originally 260 was fuel injected. Hoses from the carbs are merely breathing tubes, and as Koalia said were plumbed into the air cleaner box. Tie them away from the exhaust, and shorten them a bit if you want. Brian.

The only thing affected by worn teeth will be the operation of the starter. Does it start easily or does it make grinding noises sometimes? You can fit a new ring gear if need be, but you need a source of heat.

Why do you think the flywheel needs replacing?

One roller per door on 240, near the front of the door, around 18inches from the hinges.

Only one per door on my 72. Around 1/3 from the front.

Is the drip rail trim the same on 280z as 240z.?

Yes to the vinyl dye/spray can. I have used it in black colour. Don't know where you guys would get it though.

Dang it. I wish I had done this when I did the resto 13 years ago. Just as well i'm half deaf.
  11. Sounds lean to me, but as Gary said do the basics .
  12. Is it possible to not tap the seal fully home, thereby putting the sealing lip in a different position. Or get a different brand seal that might have the sealing lip in a slightly different position. Just a thought.
  13. Yeh, Mine sits around quater inch high at the front. I have learned to love it. Doesn't affect the way she goes, and it's still a head turner.
  14. Good find. she looks pretty tidy.
  15. One of the ex club guys is a partner in plane restoration shop down here, and the club was fortunate to get a gold class tour of his shop last Saturday. Also got a look at another hangar where the Mossie is. TV news visited the shop, and one engine was started for them. One sounds nice, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them both running. We are going to the Mossie demo this coming Saturday. I'm sure there will be clips on youtube after that. Click the link. Brian. http://i45.tinypic.com/zl6p00.jpg
  16. Thanks Northernz. I was a coachbuilding apprentice back in the 60s ,amd one of the guys I worked under was a Lanc.pilot. I wish I had listened to his stories, but I was a 17 year old and more into girls.
  17. I thought some of you guys might be interested in this, seeing as it belongs to a guy from US. Sorry to hijack your thread mate. Don't know anywhere else to put this. http://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CCcQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ardmoreairport.co.nz%2FResources%2Flibrary%2FArdmore_Flyer_Winter_Edition_July_2012.pdf&ei=6xxgUIOOL4yziQf0-oDYBg&usg=AFQjCNH4fvHRoqnoUduwmiX4OVWuKpKK9w&cad=rja
  18. Also another problem can be wear in the hinge pins allowing the hood to sit too high at the front, because you have run out of adjustment of the hinge in it's slotted holes. The torsion rods force the front of the hood upwards.
  19. If you dropped the plugs before the missing started, then I would say that was the cause. Perhaps you had a couple of sticking valves.
  20. Check valve lash again.

I have a 72 and the stock sway bar position is the same a Walters. I managed to find one from a JDM 260 2+2 that bolted straight on.
  22. Opinion 6. Fuel--- I once had a car that was sucking debris onto the fuel pickup in the tank. When the engine was shut off the debris would drop off, allowing the engine to start again till it happened next time. This was not a Zed by the way, but an old English car. Also water in the gas can cause all sorts of weird running. Same old car!!! I poured some methylated spirits in the tank, and it was supposed to mix with the water and flush it through, which it eventually did.

Thanks guys. I might just give it a miss then. I don't really want to start drilling holes in a near new valance.
  24. olzed replied to Zedyone_kenobi's post in a topic in Body & Paint
Zedy, Does it involve drilling holes to fit the new spook. I'm keen to fit one, but don't really want to make any holes.
  25. If you fill to the brim you will get expansion of gas and sloshing, which will cause a leak. You could also have a split in the filler pipe which is fairly common.
