clutch slave keeps blowing apart
Is it that the push rod is too short?? --You could make a slightly longer push rod. Simply cut the head off a suitable dia. bolt and round off the ends. I have done this.

Are the rear diffs on these cars a little whinny
Haha, yeh no whine on my 72 here either. Just a clunk. Seems they either whine or clunk. It is the second R180 diff in mine and they both clunk.

What's your very best moment in your Z car.
Coolest moment---hearing our 240 run again after an 18 month rebuild, and like Julio, my wife and i were followed into a BP service station by a traffic patrol car. Two cops got out and said they just wanted to look at the car. One of them had owned a 240 many years previously.

Location of 240Z Hood Emblem - How far from Front Tip of Hood?
Yep. 2 3/4" or 70 mm from the front lip of the hood on mine as well.

Family member interested on this Z
There is evidence of a fairly lazy paint job by the lack of paint to the underside lip of the fender, also the underside of the front valance. Also there is blistering to the quilted covering on the trans tunnel. Probably from heat.

Removing Tie Rod Ends
Good result. Sounds as though they were overtightened in the past. This is the method i use, only with a steel block behind if possible.
-
Removing Tie Rod Ends
Thanks for the drawing and better description Chas. I used this method for years in conjunction with a ball joint puller/splitter/whatever, on stubborn overtightened ball joint tapers on tractor steering components. Brian.

Removing Tie Rod Ends
It doesn't look as though the thread is mushroomed enough to stop the taper from coming out. Difficult to describe, but you DON"T need to hit the end of the thread. Instead, hit the side of the round cast body that the threaded taper fits into. Hold a steel block on the opposite side if you can as you hammer the side of the round cast piece. The threaded traper will then most likely just fall out.

Removing Tie Rod Ends
I'm bettin' it's still stuck on the taper. Try this.-- A block of steel, axe head, or sledge hammer held on one side of the outer part, then give a few whacks with a smaller hammer on the opposite side of the outer part. This will shock the outer housing and help to release the taper.

Very nice. Similar colour as my 72.

Front End Alignment
[quote name= Gents, by using the above method I should be able to fix a steering wheel that is slightly askew, right? Yes. You would just need to centre the steering wheel with the car on the floor, wrap a strong string tightly around all four wheels just below the centre of each wheel. You should see at a glance how much the toe is in or out. Adjust tie rods to suit.

14" rear disc conversion
I was considering a rear disc conversion on my 72 because of week parking brakes, but installed new rear shoes instead. I'm very happy with the result.
-
Front End Alignment
I use this method around all four wheels. A good check for rear misalignment as well.

Safe distance from salt water for parking a car

Windshield wiper reast position
Just a shot in the dark here. Could there be left and right hand drive wiper motors? My right hand drive 240 parks the wipers to the left as could be expected.

My Datsun 240Z
It was cool of the first owner to reply to you Bart. 14 years ago I contacted the first owner of my 240 after i had completed the restoration. He was not interested in seeing it, and said it was just a toy his wife drove.
