Anyone driven theses roads?
I can recommend the roads in South Island New Zealand. Mile after mile of roads made for Zs, and hardly a car in sight.

Oil under pan
Bit hard to tell from your photos, but looks like rear gearbox seal has gone bad.

Bought a '78 280Z today!
That looks pretty darn good. Not too much to do, by the looks a nice one.

Springs
A hacksaw will cut them as well but you need them in a vice to do this.

Springs
You can cut some off the springs, as long as you don't overdo it, and as long as the spring is still held firmly in the upper and lower cups when the car is raised on a jack. Its not the bodge that some people think. You could take off 1-1.5 coils. the cut doesn't have to be in any particular place as the top cup/retainer rotates to any position. Yes, you need a pair of spring compressors to do this job. You need to take the strut assembly off the car and have it in a vice makes it a lot easier. On my 240 I put the car on the jack and measured the distance from the top cup to the bottom spring perch to get the distance with the suspension at its longest travel, then added about an inch to that for a bit of initial compression, then cut the spring to that. For a street car, harder springs can be a pain in the butt in my opinion.I put 260 2+2 springs shortened, in the rear of my car, which are heavier grade wire. I would not want them any stiffer. I had 260 springs in the front as well but after I fitted new Koni shocks on the lowest damping setting I found them way too hard so went back to shortened 240 springs. I have been running my car like this for 10 years.

Hello!
Leave that one alone. It's the rust you can't see is the problem. Look further afield. Something will come along . Have patience. I loved these cars when they first appeared here in 1970. After raising a family and running a business for 30 years, I finally found my dream car. You are right, nothing else compares.

The cupped rubber gasket that goes on before the hatch hinges?

Headlight Harness
Fitted my new 240 relay harness from Dave Irwin a couple of days ago . What a difference. I fitted new 100/90 bulbs and did a Club run in the rain on Sat. night. Could see where we were going. An added bonus- the wipers seem to be going faster!!! Is that possible?

They look that damn good here too:love:

Gasoline additive for desert climate..........

260z upgrades ?
Iv'e used Motorsport Auto for a while. Most what you need, and very prompt.

Squeeling! Whyyyyyyyy~
If the noise is when you push the clutch, the noise could be the clutch release bearing. To fix this, the gearbox needs to come out---

Why is the Z community so fragmented?
I am older (66) and not too computer savvy. Have been patrolling various sites for the last 12 months or so looking for information from mature sounding folk regarding 240Zs. This site is my favourite by far. I get fed up on other sites reading crap. My 240 is not stock.I fitted power steering and four pot calipers and vented discs to the front. Apart from that it's pretty stock and a nice drive.--

Custom battery cables-DIY
Slightly off thread but ,--we do need to be carefull shorting across batteries. I had an experience on a Massey Ferguson tractor some years ago, of the steel battery cover coming loose and falling onto the battery while the engine was running at about 2500 rpm. Quite a violent explosion, and battery acid all over my legs. Not a very nice experience. The hydrogen coming from the battery when charging is very dangerous .One side had blown out of the battery:stupid: This does emphasize the need to make sure our Zed batteries are clamped down properly.

Headlight Upgrade Harness's For Sale (again!)
Hi Dave. Zs Ondabrain. From NZ. Our cars down here are right hand drive as you are probably aware. I own a 72 240 and recently fitted H4 lights. Lights are good but the switch and wiring under the steering column is getting warm after 15-20 mins. These great little cars are getting scarce here, and I don't want to lose it due to a wiring fire.:stupid: I obviously need a relay upgrade. My question is, would your relay harness plug in the same for left and right hand drives? I would assume so,I can't see any reason Nissan would have made the wiring from in the engine bay, forward, any different. Also I have purchased parts in the past from MSA, with great service,Four days from US to NZ:D Would probably buy your harness from them, unless YOU would post to NZ. Cheers, Brian.

Thinking of buying this...
small bubbles all over could well be surface rust under the paint, from a poorly prepped surface prior to repainting, if its had a bare metal respray. You need to cost in a complete strip and spray

1972 240z 3rd gear+ violent loss of power
I have a stock 240z with standard motor and stock ignition. Never had a problem in 15 years. Plugs and points adjustment 10 years ago! On a road car I can't see the point changing to electronic ignition.:

New to the Z world.
Love the rims. Don't change a thing apart from cosmetic.

Resurrection
Followed this with some interest. This would have to be one of the most rust free 240s iv'e seen . Great job.

new here
I have seen a 240 red interior that was resprayed with good quality black vinyl spray from rattle cans 12 years ago and still looks great. With some masking and care it can be done for very little cost.

new to the site
Nice tidy car. Always liked a 240 in silver.!!!

new here
Hard to tell from pics ,looks tidy, but a red interior is not my choice.: You guys are so lucky in US with so many 240Zs to choose from. A 240 is a wise choice.
