    Well put.
  2. Funny aint it how a 40 year old car can attract so much attention. Maybe they just wanted to pass to get a proper look at your car. Remember a lot of young people wouldn't have seen an old Z. Hoons wanting to race can be a pain though. Had that a few times.

I too have a 240, bone stock. She's just starting to loosen up at 125,000:) Not too much wrong with a stock 240 tuned well. Don't have so much torque as a 280, but can still hoof it. Yours at 150,000 will go well, and on a twisty road can be a lot of fun. I had a 1987 1300 Corolla years ago. A blast around the twisties was a hoot. Less power. more fun.

I have a spare clock. How do I check to see if it works. ? I don't want to fry it by wiring it wrong.

Hey thats a pain, but hopefully your son learns from this. "Maintain a safe following distance." Hope your repair goes well.

Hi Bill. Car looks nice. Also looks cold there. Brian.
  8. I once took a RUNNING spare diesel injector pump from a Perkins, in to get a check over. I was quoted the price of a new one to repair the old one.Duh.!! Brought it home in a box and eventually threw it away. It wasn't worth spending more to have it reasembled.

Hi Carl. Thanks. My wife and I love our wee Z .We have owned it for 12 years now. It had a bare metal refurb back then. We have won many Club trophies over the last 11 years. Best in show nine years. We are the fourth owner. First owner was a prominent business couple in Auckland. ( from new these were expensive cars in NZ) The chap I bought it from raced speedway bikes back in the 60s. I like knowing something of the cars history. It clicked back to zero miles when we first bought it and drove it home. We have since clocked up a further 20,000 mls. There are only a small hand full of S30s in NZ. Few 240Zs The pictures are from an annual Intermarque Concours held at Ellerslie Racecourse, which is in Auckland, our biggest city. They have a category for those not competing in the concours proper, and these are themed displays. The theme for 2010 was Valentines Day. We chose the seduction scene, because the massacre scene was the wrong era for our 70s Z Club cars. We had my red 72 in the black marquee, with a black background, and rose petals spread over the whole area, where we had six or so other Club cars as well. Her lingerie was spread throughout the car, as was his shirt. I was giving free kisses. Hersheys!!! Got a couple of real ones as well. People seemed to enjoy our display, and we had a lot of positive comments. The Z movement is alive and well here in NZ Sorry I have no pictures of the concours cars, but there are very many exotic cars contesting the prizes. Another picture Another show Ready for another show The Z Club recently had a small group winery tour and lunch with a Zed couple from US. Excellent day. Brian.

Another quick and simple method of checking toe is a bit of strong string stretched around all four wheels. Shows toe at a glance. Front and rear. Also a bit 'backyard' though. It will only really work if all four tyres are the same size. Shows if all wheels are in line.

WTF. Bit of an over reaction with the sarcastic reply .Front brake calipers actually have a hydraulic "cylinder" as do the rear brakes.. Call them what you will. The tie rod end is obviously covered in oil of some sort, as is the wheel lying under the car, and with that much crud stuck all over the tie rod, there is oil coming from somewhere, and I was enquiring where it was coming from is all. You came across as a bit of a newby with questions like you asked. Everyone, including me is trying to help you out here.
  14. I'm with cygnus. Why pull the head, if you probably don't need to.
  15. You need new brake shoes as well. They are contaminated with brake fluid, and will never work as they should.

Another question I would have is, where is the oil on everything coming from. Do you have a leaking brake cylinder? Things look grubby down there. Is there any looseness in the ball joint? If there is, then it should be replaced, and soon. If it's still tight then fit a boot. Get an old one from Pull a Part. Do you know how to withdraw the taper.?
  17. A rattle can of the correct colour vinyl spray, will improve the interior.
  18. I fitted an untested five speed 11 years ago, and it's still going strong. Found another for 100 bucks at Pic a Part still in a car. Drained the oil, which came out like clear honey. Couldn't get that out quick enough.
  19. Hi Will. She looks to be in pretty decent shape. Pity you are not into a resto.
  20. Did YOU get to drain the old oil. Was it coloured with flakes of metal.? If the oil came out clean, you should be OK. As Zed said. there might be nothing wrong with it. Fit the tranny and see. If it's no good then get another. Not a huge job.

Your auto radiator and dizzy will be fine, as will the starter. Just fit the stick shift tranny, and try it. The auto car should have a higher ratio diff, 3.54-1. With the manual tranny, this will make for a nice cruisy lower reving drive. You may miss out on low down acceleration a little. Also your speedo will read wrong.. You would need to change the speedo drive pinion at the side of the tranny. The little cog at the end is colour coded for the tooth number. (sorry can't remember which one you need) There is a different one for different diff ratios.

Punctuation makes for easier reading as well.

Great. As long as wifey likes it is a big plus.
  24. Just curious .. why can't he loop the hoses.?
