  1. I don't buy into the pulse thing. The Aussie Holden Torana GTRXUI of the early seventies was a giant killer at Bathurst and other races. All with factory fitted triple side draught Stromberg carbs. My brother in law had one. They were a rocket back then. Brian.
  2. I believe this had been covered in detail over on HybridZ. Brian.
  3. Shouldn't be too hard to remove the glass!!! I think the bits you found are not worth a great deal, but are of interest all the same. Brian

I was under my 72 240 today replacing a switch along the side of the gearbox that had been leaking oil through the centre mechanism, and weeping out beside the wires. It has been doing this for 11 years at one drop every one or two days This switch is for the reverse lights. There are two other switches which have no wire attached. I think this five speed tranny is from a S30 Japanese domestic 2000cc. Does anyone have a guess what the other two switches are for? My guess is a neutral safety starting switch for one of them. The other I don't have a clue. Just curious. Brian
  5. Hey280 turbozx. Thats a great result. FWIW. Walaah??? Voila' is the correct spelling. A french word meaning-----see there, or there it is, or similar.
  6. So I have a late 72. Would a tach from a 1974 260 be the same.? Sorry for the hijack Kurt.

Perhaps your choke cable is slipping in the clamp which holds the outer cable.
  8. Bought and installed Daves headlight harness upgrade, along with halogen headlights six months ago. Definately plug n'play, and well worth the little effort I had to spend. Is the 240 PARKING light harness upgrade as easy to install? If so I will have one on the way to N.Z before too long. Any chance I get, I trumpet the benefit of these beneficial improvements to our great little cars. Great stuff to help those of us who are not too hot with electrical stuff. Brian
  9. My question would be, what is the highest mileage from an L engine with NO major overhaul. That is, boring or crank grind, or valve grind. I would think a blown head gasket would be excused from this criteria.

Hi Christine. I would love to have all the mod cons like Daves. I have the luxury of power steering and 4 pot vented brakes on my 72, so I guess that makes me an old poofter, however I believe we all modify, or not, as we like, to personalise our cars the way we like them. Wouldnt it be boring if they were ALL the same. The power steering allows me to throw her along a mountain road for ever, withought wrenching a shoulder muscle, then cruise up and park on a dime in front of the local cafe, withought fighting to turn the steering. It's all about making our cars what WE want. Dave speeks of driving in the rain!! Our zed is a nice sunny day cruise, however some months back, wife and I did a weekend trip of some 1200 miles, and it bucketed down the whole time. We got home, I washed the car put her in the garage and gave it a blow DRY with my wifes dog blower. You would be surprised how much water comes from all the odd places that you can't dry with a towel. We have a 1300 Toyota Yaris as daily driver, but when there is a club run to do, we do it. These cars are for using, not garage queens. Wasn't Christine the Mustang in the movie 'Gone in 60 Seconds' I could be wrong. Brian.

www.ripsltd.com/products.html - These are the babys to put in a Zed, and Nissan as well. Also much more affordable. www.kiwithunder.com/ - The Falconer V12 is used in this application as well. Pretty impressive. Brian.

Ah Thanks guys. Excellent description Dave. www.falconerengines.com/ - That is what I was trying to do.:stupid: and this, www.zclub.org.nz/ - Thats great. Now all I have to do is remember it. 67 year old brain is somewhat slowing, and only found computers 18 months ago. Brian.

Can someone please explain in simple terms, for an oldy, and newish to computers, how do I post a link to another website, on this forum, or highlight a word that takes you to another site. Sounds like a dumb question and i'm sure it must be simple, but I have not been able to figure it out.:stupid:

When I was a young coachbuilder many years ago, I was building an ambulance from scratch on a new Landrover chassis. This was my first big job after serving a five year apprenticeship. Anyhow, I was overawed by the size of the task, and my old foreman said to me to not look at the whole job, but just concentrate on the part that you are doing at that time. Forget the rest for the moment. I have used this advice throughout my life, from building my own home many years ago, to rebuilding my 240 11 years ago. A bit at a time on a regular basis , and soon you will get there. Brian.

Yeah Chris I hope not. Parts for these cars are not easy to find here, and freight from your part of the planet is fairly expensive on a heavy item like a booster, and the exchange rate is of course NEVER in my favour.:classic: Brian
  17. I didn't like to say as much, but seeing as how Carl has, it sounds as though boy friend is guessing . Can you be more specific with your description of your problems. Does the car make horrible noises? If not, your differential, or, as you put it, your rear end, is probably fine.
  18. olzed replied to Z Tyler Z's post in a topic in Help Me !!
Thoughts on brake booster replacement. Iv'e owned my 72 240 for 11 years and havn't had a problem, nor have I ever replaced it. I don't know for sure, but I know the previous owner was not one for maintainenc, so I suspect ,as the booster is at least 20 years old, i'm going to have to do a replacement soon. I think I will leave it alone and see how long it does last. Brian.
  19. When you stopped were the brakes smelling hot. What makes you think it is your differential that is causing concern. Is there grinding noises from the rear of the car.A bad diff. will make noises. More info is good. A collapsed hub bearing can also make some awful noises.

Rick. What were the rail guys smoking when they laid these tracks.? On a serious note, these pictures are amazing. Thank you for sharing them. Brian.
  21. Sarah. I am amazed at your skill with the fuel injection problems on your Z. and helping other folk out.Great stuff. I can diagnose problems with carbs on my 240, and I can do any of the mechanical stuff, but electronics has me stumped. Brian.
  22. OH DEAR.!! Was there any signs of odd rumbling noises coming from that wheel before this happened?
  23. olzed replied to aldren260's post in a topic in Help Me !!
Could also be a bad clutch pressure plate causing this. I had the same problem on my 72. But more than likely as others have suggested, low on fliud or crook master or slave cylinder.

I would like to make mention of the terrible floods sweeping through Queensland, and down into New South Wales, Australia, with the loss of life and dozens of people missing. My thoughts are with our neighbours across the Tasman Sea. There are some on this forum living in Queensland, and New South Wales.I hope you are safe. Brian.

Nice car mate. I love the traditional looking wheels, and plenty of rubber to fill the wheel arches. Are the rims 14 inch? Extremely nice, and the orange or red on a 240 are my two favourite colours.
