Major differences... 240Z = 2.4 L Engine 260Z = 2.6 L Engine 280Z = 2.8 L Engine Better vehicle? To each it's own I think, although the '73 240Z did come out with some crappy flat top carburetors that many people replace. Late 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z had bigger bumpers in the front and back, as well as different vehicle weight. http://www.zhome.com Excellent source of Z information. You'd be surprised how much the 240Z itself changed from 1970-1973 models.

Nice car! You'll find this forum leans more toward originality of the Z, but there are definitely a good amount of force fed fans, as well as v8 fans present. Looks like you have some solid experience nodding cars! Hybridz.org as you may know is very big on nodding Zs. Like this forum, it had a great deal of priceless information. Either way, I think I agree with your idea to take it slow and plan, as things always change. Finding a solid Z to start from is key. Happy browsing and goodluck!

That would be really helpful if you could do that =) Thanks a lot! Thank god California Plates didn't have any gold reflection in them. That plate is absolutely stunning!

The rule in California that any car 1969 and before can have a registered "same-year" plate. They call this the "year of manufacture" program. Cars are title in CA, plates stay with the vehicle until it is no longer in service.

So I guess there's no one that has restored these plates I'll maybe use this tagdr.com guy and report back the results. Anyone with experience painting blue/yellow plates please speak up!!

Yea, I don't think they are. But either way, still hoping someone has done this before. I got a quote from Rod at tagdr.com, his quote is $190 for two plates, $10 for return shipping. So around $200, and an extra $45 with rush service (for both plates). I may go this route...

SteveJ, I am not sure, but there is a few pictures of blue/yellow CA plates they restored on their site. So I am assuming it is okay?

Welcome to the forum! Congrats and that beautiful buy =) It may also be worth while to invest in POR-15's three step rust prevention paint. If your floor pans, etc. are solid right now... you can keep them that way! http://www.por15.com

Thanks Arne, You are right; the blue in the Oregon plate looks almost identical to the CA Blue Plate. I will try and get in contact with them, too bad their site says they specialize "ONLY IN OREGON PLATES." On the side, is that your car? (thrown off by the missing bumper) What paint did you use for your tail light panel/license plate light? Looks like a dark "grey, not-quite-black" I'm looking for haha. Thank you!

Hello everyone, I apologize if this is in the wrong thread, as the subject is not limited to S30s, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I am in the process of restoring my 1970-71 CA Blue License Plate for my Z, and would love to hear if anyone had experience with it? The biggest problem I am facing now is finding a matching color right out of a can. Has anyone had any luck with finding a color that matches the blue and yellow on these plates? I went to a paint shop to try and get a mixture once, and the employees proceeded to tell me that I would get a ticket for it :stupid: I am leaning towards spray paint just because it results in a smoother texture, opposed to if I were to use a brush. Once again, I apologize if this is in the wrong thread. But I've searched over and over for the paint codes with no luck. I know I can buy replicas, but what I really want to do is just repaint the existing ones I have. This is a plate for reference (not mine): Any help would be greatly appreciated

mlc240z - I may possibly just go with the whole rebuild. You're right, do it once, do it TOTALLY right. oldhemi - The wheel bearings were redone already, professionally. But yea, that was my initial thought as well. Unfortunately I ran into another problem today during alignment. They didn't mention anything about tie rod ends... inner or outer... (a different shop). This time they straight up told me my strut was incorrect on the right side!!! DOH! Apparently it was replaced with a 280Z strut housing, which explains why I had to change my passenger side front hub out when putting on the AZC Brake kit for 240Z hubs. I guess they replaced the whole side, including the struts... Z BARN it is!

What's even more ironic is I had a WRX STi before this Z hahaha. Sweet bumper sticker though!

No kidding eh? These people are definately comparing notes. I guess, in this economy, people will do anything to make a buck! I will take into account what you mentioned, and will give Z Barn a call sometime in the near future. Right now, the car is in a shop for alignment without replacing the inner tie rods, so lets just keep our fingers crossed that there is nothing wrong with them.
