  1. Again my friend - you are running lean..
  2. mine has some, but will have to take another look when I get it back off the jack stands/finish up the rear section. I really get mixed feelings finding the factory markings. It's nice they are still there, but at the same time shows me that little to no maintenance has ever been done on the car. Still a lot of decisions to make with it though. Need to take my time and make sure I set my priorities correctly. The good part is even when you are pretty broke, it doesn't cost much to pull stuff apart, inspect and clean then reassemble. Plan is to work forward from the back, improving and preserving where I can, so the easy to see marks will likely be re-applied. The rebirth of another 902. (now to start scavenging for the interior and Shelby Cal500 rims)--
  3. wow.. Good luck and hope to see you on the road some time soon!
  4. made them a little more reasonable in size - board was being touchy with attaching the files.. probably not going to put the markings back (took a couple of hours just to get one half shaft out. Economy has slowed down this build quite a bit but I am amazed at the number of untouched things I am finding in this car. In digging around I have found a few marks with the same color paint on the chassis. Most of them have been pretty small dots on bolt/washers.
  5. thats why I was wondering - the marks were not visible until I steam cleaned a bit under the car (more to kill the bugs than clean) The markings became visible after shooting the steam at it..
  6. made my own at not such an extreme angle with the vice/torch. A little bend will do ya
  7. Hi all - Got to work today on the 71. I am planning on pulling the rear end out of the car as well as a rebuild of the rear suspension and noticed several paint marks on the bolts. I was wondering if anyone knows if they are factory marks, or are they from some other odd source?
  8. so, after much searching does anyone know of a thread I can not find dealing with the battery tray area (cleaning it out and prepping it for paint). What tools to use to break out the welds holding the tray in, etc.. Thanks again..

and if the straw that broke the camels back is a traffic citation, you will just have to bit the bullet and get a new one. They won't let cops sign off "attempted" repairs, as they do nothing to restore the function of the safety glazing..
  10. question though.. overall how is your breaking in general? does your breaking seem kind of soft too? More explanation if what I think could be going on to follow. Ambien kicking in so don't want to put too much effort into it and not make much sense. Oh, and NEVER drive/operate/or do anything mission critical when taking ambien.. doesn't work in your favor
  11. Another vote for the stock boxes = it will grow on you over time. Order the updated stickers and you will feel better about it.

bearing in the transmission - transmission stops moving, noise goes away. Had this happen two times on 2 different Z's, but it never came back after full rebuilds/new bearings..

The good news is as soon as you get that straight - you will have another problem Turning the wrench is only half the fun =/
  15. remember to spit on the glad hands... it's good luck
  16. great find - patience always pays off. More complete than my 71
  17. From the standpoint of being one of "writers" - more people talk or lie their way into a ticket. Attitude when stopped is about half of the consideration process. Where, when and what make up the rest..
  18. If you haven't already, make sure they are going to pay for your physical exam (If you don't have your class A already)
  19. my only thing in thinking about the bed lining material would be that it's a great way to hide an extremely poor repair on a rusted out floor, as it looks like the same material has been shot under the car as well. Some before and during pictures would be great for verification. Looks like a lot of work went into it though and might be a great car. Excellent craftsmanship on the cage and fuel cell, so a ton of work has been done. We have a few people from here who live in Fairfield. Maybe they know some history?
  20. it's a spray on bed-liner =/ different, that's for sure

when I went to pick up my 240 that was sitting in one spot for YEARS, it had the same issue.. The drums had oxidized into the shoes. Three guys pushing like mad got it to start rolling, then we were able to get to the drum into the right location to release the adjuster. I have also had a frozen slave cylinder that had to be released in the same way (it would only expand).
  22. actually I think that is an outstanding price for a 280 in that condition (probably hit in back at some point). It is a nice car otherwise. Part of me is kind of hopeful they never get too expensive. If they do, they will be out of reach for the average person who wants one and whats left of NOS parts will vanish. A Z is not an investment, it's a way of looking at life. What are they worth? to those of us who love them - more than they will ever sell for
  23. I agree with pulling the plugs if you have the block that far down, having the block tanked and checked. Usually the shop doing the tanking will install the plugs for you for a couple of bucks anyway, and you will know everything lines up correctly and you have a nice deck surface, etc. You can also have everything balanced to for a pretty reasonable price.. my 2 cents..

I'm not interested (already have 2, don't have room for another) and have not seen it rolling around town.. If I do see it will let people know..
