  1. BTW Bryan where did you find this book?
  2. I was on hand for the interview section with John Morton and Trevor Harris when they were interviewed regarding the early days of the the BRE 240Z for the show TV show Full Throttle, and I think that some of you are missing the picture. At first John was not impressed with the car and that was just from a RACING perspective. I think they felt that it would be difficult to get it to perform against porsches which at the time, in stock trim, were more developed for racing...Needless to say, John is very proud of the fact that they went from underdogs to the overdog in a short period of time. Remember John had been racing Datsun Roadsters up to this point and the Z was a completely new animal. Fortunately, the BRE team figured out how to make the car handle. Changing pickup points for the front suspension and modifing numerous parts of the car started a legacy of Datsun Nissan racing that is second to none. John is an incredible tallent and the fans of Datsuns and Nissans should be greatful that we had such a tallented driver runing these cars otherwise they could have fallen by the wayside like the Yugo.

congrats! I remember when I got mine back from the paint shop. From this point forward you get to put your car back together!!
  6. I dont know of anyone who has had stoping issues with their brakes because of the potential of rain water from the vents in the spook... Just about everyone I know runs the vented spook. But if you prefer the styling of the other, that is your choice.
  7. In the Future buy your spooks from Les Cannaday of Classic Datsun 760-940-6365 his pricing is better, and he has the original molds with the markings of where the mounting locations are. See my the photos of my car in my signature below.
  8. Jeeze dude, take it down a few notches... Your slamming good people on this site at every turn....at the moment you are about one tick away from making it onto my ignore list.... Relax, THINK and then say something nice.
  9. No soul selling...a lot of hand wringing, sweating and big checks...budget...what budget All in all it was a lot of fun finding all the parts to build my Z. Thanks for your kind words.
  10. MySons280z, I think it is great that you guys have a project that you can work on together. My dad and I replaced the clutch on a BMW 2002 when I was about driving age. It was a great experience and one that I cherish as quality time with my dad. To relate to your son at 15 is a tough thing, I aplaud you for taking the interest, time and expense to do find common ground.

  13. The word from my local Nissan dealer is that it will be under the INFINITY badge in the US and the first INFINITY badged car in Europe. I reserve the right to make a decision until I see one in person...but I think it looks pretty good so far.
  14. Your fuel pump should be isolated with a relay. All alarm systems have outputs that will trigger a relay that would allow you to enable or disable different features in your car, including your electric fuel pump. Early Z's are very easy to break into, and steal. We saw a gang of guys in Northern California stealing Z cars in the early to mid 80's. Popular ways of breaking into a Z. drilling a hole through the bottom of the battery, killing the battery, and disabling any alarm (accept lojack and a battery backup siren). prying up the flap that covers the battery and disabling the battery. To steal a early since all the keys and locks are worn a "butter knife" will open a z car door and start turn the key to start the car...New door locks featuring a rotary key is the solution for this...Often times one of the quarter windows will get broken for access that way as well....

The flares look like a copy of the C production flares run on Z cars in the mid 70's. BTW nice car Steve! looks like fun!
  20. 2 sets of American Le Mans wheels, (you cant have enough of these) For the BRE Z, 1 set of 15" Panasport lightweight racing wheels for the Z with Toyo RA1's. 1 set of 14" Panasport Lightweight racing wheels for the Roadster, 1 set of American Silverstone wheels with Hooser racing bias ply tires (2 spare wheels without tires), 1 set of 14" Minilights w/o tires....

My imagination went off on a tangent...Semi, Z, Semi, Z.... I figured your rear quarter would have been in much worse condition. Lucky that your door was not damaged as well.... I know it is hard to hear that you were "lucky" because any damage is bad...but I think you got off lucky...

IF it is the stock motor you will need a square port header. You would or should have an E88 head if that is the case. Now we are talking about cars that have been around for 30+ years and if someone has done a motor swap that could be incorrect. I would suggest looking at the stamping on the head and verifing what head you have then we can give you the correct information. Also, a little examination on your part will tell you if you need a square or round port header...look at what is on the car now....It is pretty obvious if you have a round or square port header currently.
  25. Thanks Gav! I am flattered. If you get over to this continent, specifically Southern California... I'll take you out for a spin. BTW...Who needs a 2.8 when you run a 2.4 at 12.5:1 compression, a big cam, mikunis and 110 octane fuel! Nothing smells like race gas!
