George Carlin Dies at 71
George was asked a few years ago what he wanted on his epitaph. "He was just here" was his answer. To a fine person who broke stereotypes, challenged authority and did it with class. George, we will miss you.

Carl, Congrats, nice write up. As Bob mentioned there is a weekly event in Southern California, and I have seen Mr Foose there as well. He is much shorter in person It is a great event, done in two hours and always a good time.

Sway Bars
On my old street car 240Z I had the frame rails spider crack apart directly above the swaybar mount, even though most of the spot welds were still holding and this was 15+ years ago. So even a street car can wear out the stock mounts and frame rails. If you look in this photo next to the Mallory Coil there is a dark area on the frame rail, and that is where the frame cracked, and where we welded it up. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/data/500/932strutbar4.JPG

Sway Bars
"early 240s were not delivered with a front sway bar anyway" That may be true, but I have seen my share of early Z's and they ALL had front swaybars. I do not think that swaybars were an after thought on the 240Z. Keep in mind that these cars were designed to last only so long, and they are well beyond what the original manufacture envisioned as the practical useable life of these cars.

Please help me before my dad gets back
TomoHawk aren't you supposed to submerge the car in the Great Lakes before gathering hookers for your one night "Risky Business" affair? Wish I could help, sounds like the guys at Nissan Sport have got a line on parts for you. Good luck.

Hunting Beach Concours 31May/1June
The HB show was a good one. Well organized and well run. There were several race cars on hand and although we were relegated to the parking lot above the main show, it was a good time and my Z won best race car. There were several nice Z cars there, and one roadster. Next year I think I will bring the roadster. Best, Ron

Sway Bars
KTM has the right solution for this, if you don't support this area it will fatigue and break over time with large swaybars on your car.
-
Sway Bars
Anything larger than 3/4" on the front, is large. Let's rephrase the question, why do you think you need big swaybars on your car?
-
Sway Bars
I guess the better question is what are you trying to do to make your car handle better. Most guys say I need bigger swaybars, but actually there are other items you can modify that will make your car handle better depending on the handling issues you are dealing with. Big swaybars on your early Z car will rip the framerails apart...

Our Dog Died Today
I am really sorry to hear about your loss, it has been a tough year for us too, as we lost our beloved Great Dane, Jake late in February. He was eleven and a half which is a long time for a Great Dane. A bone spur in his back caused him to loose feeling in his back legs. Slowly the muscles in his back legs atrophied, and it got to the point where he could not get up any more. So it was time.... We were lucky and able to say goodbye, I am sure your situation is much more difficult to cope with a driver who just kept going. I hope that you are able to deal with this guy that hit your dog and was too much of a coward to stop. Again, sorry to hear about this.

Motoring J Style 2008
This is going to be a great time. I can't fill you in on all the details yet, but assure you that this will be a rare opportunity to meet several members of the BRE race team along with several unique and famous Datsuns. This is a do not miss opportunity, and I will be attending, making the trek from San Diego. Hope to see you guys there. Ron

$30,000 Datsun 240z's....Get yours before it's too late
Well put Carl, I have always looked at the vintage car market as a parallel to the fine art market, as they are similar in many ways. I want to comment on the individuals who have brought the Datsun 240Z to prominance in the USA. Many of these individuals are getting up there in age and I think it is time as a community that we start paying attention to these mavericks as they have a limited time among us. Ron

Panasport Wheel Weight
I run lightweight panasports on my roadster and my 510. I had two sets for the Z but sold them a while ago. I have purchased all my panasports from Les's shop...I also am not aware of anyone ever cracking a panasport, race or otherwise from regular or race driving. They are a high quality cast wheel. The racing wheels are lighter, but don't bend as easily as a forged wheel does. Is unsprung weight that big of a deal for you? if so there are some other things to consider.... I would say that race driving is much harder on a set of wheels compared with daily driving unless you physically damage the wheel in a pothole or worse. PS I had 15x7 panasport lightweight racing wheels with 205x50x15 Toyo RA-1 tires. I run Toyo's currently on my roadster.

Panasport Wheel Weight
The rewinds are lighter, but you will never notice the difference. I run Panasport racing wheels, they are better made and nearly the same weight.
