my proposed paint
Dodge has that color that changes in the light, that emulates the color that you have mentioned....I think your z would look great in that color. Met Jello a long time ago, the DK's played at my High School in Northern Calif. A good story for another time. Nothing like a little "Holiday in Cambodia"!! Are you going to MSA? If so, track me down my Z and Roadster will be there. Ron

my proposed paint
An idea that I have seen done well: A metal flake paint under the clearcoat of the BRE stripes so that in the right light the BRE stripes are visible. It is not as eye catching, and is very suttle. If you need the correct dimensions of the BRE stripes, I might know someone who can help you with that :cross-eye ...Also, the "datsun" logo sits right under the body line on the fender. See my gallery for more details. Viva Las Vegas!

Why are air dams so expensive?
Why buy an airdam that will attempt to fold under your car at 80 mph and sag in 2 years!! buy fiberglass, and buy more than one...you will break at least one over time.

Bolt-on Rear Sway Bar '72 240z Susp Tech's
Hi Curtis, Did you look on their website? www.designproductsracing.com? I have their bars on my car front and rear along with their modified front and rear suspension componants. Ron

Bolt-on Rear Sway Bar '72 240z Susp Tech's
Curtis, I almost agree with you...ST makes the most common solution, and it is very good. Saner and DP Racing make the best solution. DP makes an adjustable tubular front and solid adjustable rear bar that is the "Best" that I am aware of. Ron

Bolt-on Rear Sway Bar '72 240z Susp Tech's
Superdave the dimensions are completely different for a bar that mounts in the stock rear location on a 260/280 vs 240. I have a set of AZ Z front and rear adjustable swaybars for a 260 /280 that I will sell cheap if your interested.

Alan point taken...It is very easy for Americans to settle into a conversation and forget that there are our friends from Europe and Australia that pay close attention to this website, and these postings. It is a fault of ours that is not intended, Americans have this opinion that the world revolves arround us, and that is far from the truth. I spent a few days in Italy and Germany last year and it was very interesting to see how Europeans view Americans and their politics. As far as inverted snobbery...I have never understood why people think that way...these cars are classics! there were not very many made and few left on the road. We are the people who carry the torch for a piece of automotive history. Why claim that this car is less than what it is, one of the greatest sports cars ever. 26th- I agree such early cars properly restored are, in the mind of a serious collecter extremely valuable. Your cars are worth what you feel they are worth, because I doubt that they are going to be for sale any time soon. Oh, and I second the motion, don't gold plate them....

Here's a winner!!
There is a bid for $52.00 and It hasn't met it's reserve!? unbelievable. I think that someone would need to pay me to take it away.

Alan, The scope of this conversation was based on a US car for sale and the value of the car in the USA. I do not doubt that the "works" cars are equal too or more for that matter. Alan, feel free to volley any time you would like The ball is in your court

Dogma, I hear you. My first 240Z was my daily driver up until about 8 years ago. It was always a challenge to keep her on the road when I could barely rub two dimes together. You get that teleporting thing worked out and give me a call, okay! I will have to settle for a Stone Brewing, Arogant Bastard Ale. From our local brewery tonight! Yeah, Mc D's no thanks. Ron

Thanks Carl, As the cost of a restoration goes up, the value of our cars will go up, which I think is a positive thing. We value our marque. I think that we will see very fine specimens selling for the kind of numbers I quoted in the very near future. I would like to make it to 70 as well, and beyond... This is the last year I can say I am 30 something. Ron

My car is not for sale, it has value to me past $$$. However, My friend Dave sold his BRE 510 replica to Adam Corrola (formerly of the man show) for 19.5k about a year and a half ago. That car graced the cover of Grassroots Motorsports a few months back....

Dogma, first this is a discussion and not a flame. And we can agree to disagree. 1)(enjoy your lunch was said in fun based off of your wendys comment, not as an insult) this is not a personal attack. 2) I dont see any posting from "Carl" on this thread, do you mean Carl Beck? I know Carl Beck pretty well. We have spoken many times in regards to his restoration of his BRE Z. There is no disrespect meant...I dont know what you are referring too!? 3) I have a very clear understanding of how eBay works, and several of the cars you claim have not sold, in fact have sold at prices upwards of 30k. No, I dont have immediate documentation, But I do know one of Les Cannaday's clients that attempted to buy several of the Nissan remanufactured Z's off of ebay for just less than 30K and missed out (I understand he tried on several occasions) So he just spent 38k for a full restoration of a 70. 4) I am not a " Young Ricer" 5) I have owned (and driven) and more than 4 240Z's over the last 15+ years and currently my BRE replica can be viewed from the link on my signature, or in the most recent copy of Sports Car International. 6) There is only one original "roadracing" BRE Z left and it is Gerry Mason's. This car has tons of history and if it were for sale would get those kinds of numbers. I know that Nissan would buy the car if it ever came up for sale BTW. They (Nissan) has made it clear to me that if i ever sell my car that they are interested. 7) what do you call a "normal" restoration? and how do you value that? 8) Who am I! My name is right on my posts, I have spent the last 2 years building my BRE replica and I can tell you from first hand knowledge that it would cost at least 30k to do a good restoration starting today. Who are you!? 9) You can put an illuminated 73 heater panel in your 72. I put one in one of my 71's. 10) Remember in written form there is no way to read in the"tone" of a conversation.

Bambi are you in your 70's!? I dont know Burt Diamond, is that the red 240Z that was on the cover of sport Z mag a few years back?
-
nice car but way over priced
The "factory resto Z's" from a few years back are reaching $30k+ on ebay. Ten years ago, a good friend of mine sold an All original 72 for $12k. To even look at doing a full restoration on a 240 from Classic Datsun (one of the best restoration companies in the country) will cost $30k+!! not including the price of the car. We are at a time where the original parts are running out and the value of these cars are starting to climb quickly. We are talking the elite of the elite here not someones quasi-restorod 240Z. Dogma I think you need to re-evaluate. Oh, and enjoy your lunch.... PS, I know that Gerry Mason's BRE 240Z could easily sell for $100k, if it were for sale.

nice car but way over priced
Valuations and reasoning: the most valuable 240Z's would be original race cars with history ala, Bob Sharp and BRE 240Z's; I would speculate values upwards of $100k. Followed by all original low mileage cars somewhere around $38k to 50k, followed by very good restorations (in the low to mid $30k range). Then Early serial number cars below 500, then 1970 240's, 71 /72 240's, then 73's. Dont get me wrong, a really clean all original 73 is worth more than a fair condition early car, and in some respects are better as pointed out above. but, poor carburation and added weight makes it a little less desirable. 260Z's that were only made for one year have never been considered a collectors item.... Just my $.02
