Got a little more done. Much more fun putting it back together than fixing rust.

After a 1.5 years of rust repair..this what I've got. Im happy as hell with my first paint job done in the driveway. Now the fun part...reassembly and engine. I'll wet sand and buff once its on the road. Pictures werre sent through email and I dont know how to change them...sorry. I forgot my camera that day. Brian 0223.bmp 0221.bmp 0222.bmp

Brandon...maybe when he see's the triples I have coming from Rebellos he'll change his mind. Time to give up simplicity for a minute and go for that extra little bit. Brian
  5. In 1.5 years I could get really good at painting it myself.
  6. I did the same thing on mine. All new hard lines. The line that runs from the wheel cylinder to the flexible line mounting bracket was a bitch because its such a tight bend and you still have to get the nut on it. Got it done though. Hopefully I will see if it leaks in a month or so.
  7. Looks rediculous...can't wait to see on the lift.

Got some more primer on. So glad to not see green on outside anymore.
  9. The car looks awsome. I hope mine turns out half as nice as that and I'll be happy as hell. Brian

Have you tried asking this at hybridz.org? I haven't seen many guys here with V8's. Trying to help.
  11. If its the same as the 240...the rear outer bushing have a metal sleeve inside the control arm. Plan on using ALOT of heat and a chisel to get that sleeve out. Also I think on those same bushings I had to use the belt sander to take a small amount off the shoulder of the bushing to allow it to fit back in place. The sway bar bushings on mine were pretty hard to get on(the point where they mount to the frame in the front)and then getting the endlink hooked back up. The part on the frame was hard to get the bushing to close up all the way...but we finally got it and then used a c clamp to assist with the endlink. Dont know if it matters but theres no engine in my car right now. I think alot of people had problems with getting the pin out of the rear arm, mine wasn't a problem. Just used a punch and it came out. Brian

Once I get the filler sanded using guide coat I have some 2k urethane primer(gray) to go on top. Think I should be good. Then hopefully some base coat in next couple weeks.

Funny you are. I thought I was done with this color, but apparently not just yet. Dont worry, It will be dark gray soon enough.

Sprayed epoxy primer last weekend. Need to spray a little more this weekend cause I ran out. Then time for some filler and some more sanding.

Im reusing the pistons. Crank is good and round...may need a little polishing. Im trying to get a little more power than stock. I want the engine to be sound but I only want to do whats necessary since theres so much more about the car that I dont know and how much the unknowns will cost. I have the flat top carbs and if I will have to spend money on new roundtops I would just assume spend the extra for triples. Once on the road and everything sorted out, I figure I can go a little further into engine mods and will have the cam, carbs etc. The exhaust manifold was pretty well rusted out from sitting for 20 years so headers it is. I could put it back stock but I think its more fun to try to get some more power while at it. I like learning this stuff by doing as much as possible myself. I dont mind screwing stuff up in the process as long as know why and how not to do it again. My only thought on mikunis vs webers is that I personally have a problem buying carbs that arn't made anymore. Parts for them will probably get harder to find down the road I guess. I could be wrong, just my thoughts on it. As far as Dave and Todd, I guess I should call them. I just feel like I would be asking them for advice and not having them do the work but If they can sell me some webers or something that would make me feel better about it. I aprreciate all the advice and different things to think about. Brian

Well engines at machine shop. Hopefully this setup will work with no problems. Any other thoughts on this from anyone? This is first engine Im building on my own for the most part and hopefully Im not spending money on stuff that won't work well.

Haven't given much thought to ignition yet but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks

I have a 73 that will hopefully be ready for a engine soon. I know what I want to do to the engine and wanted opinions from others who may have similar setups. I wont be running any smog equipment. My plan is to rebuild the engine. I'll have block and head cleaned by machine shop. Cam will be sent to Isky to be reground to stage 3. E88 Head(stock emission head..I know its not the best but its what I have) will have new valve seats, guides, outer springs, and refurbished rockers. Cylinders will be honed, not bored. Headers to a 2.5 inch exhaust with a muffler to be determined. Triple webers. Not sure on size of webers yet. Suggestions welcomed. Im thinking 40's run by an electric fuel pump. Anyway, this is basically what I'm planning on doing. This car will be a weekend car and I will probably run the hell out of it. Im not concerned about driving in traffic. Just want some opinions wether or not this combination will run right assuming everything gets tuned correctly since I'll be taking parts to machine shop hopefully this week. If you need more specifics, I'll try to provide them. Thanks. Brian

So I guess I can get that copper washer at the nissan dealership when I go to put it back in?
  21. pjoe posted a post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
I removed the copper washer, ball and spring for the oil filter in preperation for the machine shop to hot tank block. Is this what you guys do or do most people leave these in the block? Brian

R134A isnt compatible with R12. If you do that it may contaminate the system and cause big problems. My experience is in residential appliance repair and I know for certain you cant put 134A in a R12 system in my field at least. Save yourself some money and take it to repair shop. Brian

Im getting ready to build an engine for my z with the help of a friend who has several z's with modified engines. From what I guess, I MIGHT get 175HP and spend 3 to 4 grand in the end. Im going with triple webers and that will be alot of the cost. I would say 300 HP will be hard to obtain for an average wallet like mine. Just my opinion. Brian
  24. I was told by msa that the plant that makes the kits for them burned down along with the molds. I just got the BD kit but havent installed it yet. Let us know how it works out. Brian

I dont think any of those shows do what we would do to our cars because its a tv show and they're trying to make money from it. Im losing money with m z...but Im good with that. What I saw from car warriors preview....we will all be sick. Brian
