Hi Guys, Again thanks to all who offered help on my problem. I got to check it again today and I find a .01 amp draw on the battery. If I have time tomorrow I plan first on checking the voltage regulator. Maybe that will do it. Thanks again JCB

Zed, Thanks for the reply.I found the fact that it will not light a test light but still runs the battery down odd as well. I do get a reading of 12.6 v on a multi meter so I know it's going somewhere. I will try pulling fuses and see what I find. Thanks again. JCB

I just acquired a 1977 280 and the battery will not stay charged. If the cable is removed it stays charged. It will not light a test lamp but a multimeter shows a 12v draw when placed between the ground cable and the battery post. Also the tack is stuck at 3000 rpm with engine running or not. Thought someone might have had a similar problem and could offer a direction to go to find a cure for both problems. I'm a returning member after a brief departure. Sold one 2 years ago but could not stay away from the allure of the early Z cars. Thanks a lot for any help. John Butcher

Need to sell my stock 280z. I have owned it for about 5 years My wife is batteling myloma cancer and I need to let my z go to a new home. Car was not real bad as far as rust, frame rails and floor boards were the worst of it.Solid spair tire area is solid Not sure of milage but somewhere in the 150,000 area. Repaired rust in floor boards with patch panels. New Bad Dog frame rails. Exhaust from resonator back, new muffler Goodyear tires. Less than 500 miles Brakes.Calipers, pads, rear shoes and wheel cylinders, flex hoses, rear hardware (springs, ect.) All suspension bushings, front and rear including spindel pins and differenchal mount rubber. (rubber bushings not poly) Ball joints and tie rod ends TKY strut inserts Installed sound and heat barrier and sealed rear hatch and taillights. Has zero exhaust smell in cabin Leather seats from a PT cruiser mounted on original sliders Door panels and headliner, carpet (I cut and fit carpet, cheap but looks good. Hatch seal and door rubber (Kia door) Aftermarket radio and disk player / speakers Full dash cap but is warped. Metal louvers on hatch Gas tank cleaned and G-3 filter added. Nothing done to engine or drive train but routine mantinance. Car starts and runs great, I think engine was refreshed at sometime.Runs too good not to have happened It needs paint and a windshield. Lots of other little things I can't think of Some things really did not need to be done but I thought I would keep the car forever. I know it's hard to tell without seeing the car but tell me what you think it's worth from this descripsion. I have not listed the car anywhere. Thanks JB

Rebuilt boosters are also listed at Rock Auto, about the same price.

KYB says you do not need to add oil to the tube but it's a good idea to add a small amount like 1/oz or so to keep the cartridge from rusting and sticking in the tube.

zKars and Arne, Thanks for the replies. I found a picture of my wheels on a search of "wheel center caps". The post is from steve91tt. Arne, you are able to identify them in that post, as a Western Aluminum wheel. But the center hole on mine are 3.25" and then they enlarge to 3.50". I found the caps on MSA but they are 3&3/16". They state that the caps push in and I do not think they will be big enough to stay in. I will keep looking and maybe find some that will work. Thanks again. JB

I am trying to find center caps for the turbine style wheels. These are on a 78/280z and I think are the original wheels. The opening has a outer shoulder that measures 3.25" but the inner opening is 3.5". Anyone know where I can find center caps to fit these wheels. I have looked at MSA,summit and on the internet but cannot find what I think would fit. I plan to paint them so any material would work. Thanks for any replies, JB

I would like to install a right side mirror on my 78/280. I am looking at the pair of mirrors from Z Specialties that sell for about $35. Has anyone used these and if so what do you think? Quality and how you think they look on the car. Does the mirror really help that much? The price seems good, maybe too good. Any other suggestions.. Thanks for any info. JB
  19. Carl,Thanks for your expertise and estimate of worth for the car I described. I still have not seen the car so can't say if it's as described or not. The pictures that I was shown indicate that it is as described. A shot of the dash showed it in undamaged condition so I don't think the interior is sun baked as you mentioned. I would buy the car but I would need to sell my 78 or leave my wife. I will update when I get to inspect the car and tell you what I have decided, the wife or my 78 or both. Thanks again. JB
  20. Great web sites. thanks for sharing.
  21. I was over at my daughter's house today and an older gentleman (I'm 75) so that is a relative statement, stopped to ask about my 280z. He then told me he has a 1972 240z with 60K on the clock and 100% original. He is the second owner and wants to sell it. He bought it from the 1st owner with 3k miles and has kept it sense then. He says it still has the original spare and tools and the owners manual. I ask what he wants for it and he thinks $12,500. If it as he says what do you guys think it's worth? He added that he just thru away the window sticker about a month ago. I told him to go dig thru the trash and find it. He is going to call me the next time he takes it out to drive it. Let me know if 12,500 sounds realistic. One more thing. He had pictures and the dash is mint.
  22. I was able to change my pan gasket without jacking motor up. 1980 280z. It's tight but will come out. You will need to remove the lower flywheel inspection bolts and turn the crankshaft to just the right position to get it out. The pan bolts under the cross member are a little difficult. I used 1/4 in drive socket with a wobble joint I think. The gasket I used was a FelPro and looked like it came over with the first boat but it held with a good dose of stickum. Good luck with it.

Had same problems. Above suggestions plus make sure the rear shoes are adjusted correctly. Very important!!! I also had reaction disk problems that had to be corrected before I was satisfied with the amount of brake pedal I had.

I am wondering about dash cap quality from American Dash. This will be the second cap I have installed on my 78 280. The first warped . It came from MSA but was my bad as I left in the sun with out gluing down first. The American Dash cap is $40 higher and a little more freight but ad says heat resistant. Just wondering if American Dash is worth the extra money. Any thoughts or first hand knowledge about the American brand will be great. I have read somewhere that the caps are all made by the same company and if so might as well buy the cheap one. Thanks JB

I have noticed that most of the negative responses come from guys, like me, who are old f___ts. We had an inch on Sunday and Temps in the low 20's, wind in the high 30's. Will be glad when July brings 100 degrees.
