Iacoski Z Design Study Hits The Intarwebs
08-20-2008 08:04 PM Here’s an interesting specimen that’s been making the internet rounds. Perhaps unsatisfied with Nissan Yulon’s X-Link as a worthy flagship for a revival of the Datsun brand, someone calling himself Iacoski has offered this alternative. We’re not really feelin’ the GT-R front, but that side profile definitely recalls the S30 Z and looks good doing it, proving just how timeless the original shape was. In fact, we think it looks better than Nissan’s own leaked 370Z photo. What say you, yay or nay? [NihonCar] More...

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics
Ok, here's a good topic to discuss. I'm sure most of you have been watching the summer Olympics. What do you think? Of course most of us are aware of Michael Phelp's and his 8 gold medals. I've heard conversation that he might be the best Olympic athlete ever... Not sure if I agree with the "best ever" part, but, certainly the best in swimming. One of my favorites is Shawn Johnson. She's a great athlete and has a great attitude about what she's doing. http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=619/bio/index.html

Message to the GUYS of CZCC
The "welcome to the internet" wasn't actually offensive to me. I saw it and kinda mumbled to myself... yea, true.... There are also other comments I also agree with from others who have replied as well. In fact, I think we are all right on this subject. Just from the sheer number of replies in the last 4-5 hours, I can tell this is a topic that might tend to linger just like a discussion about politics. One thing I do believe is that ANY member making a comment (man or woman) should remember to type as if you were standing right in front of the other person. Or, type as if you were making an announcement to a group of people in a room.......

Message to the GUYS of CZCC
Guys, we have to stop chasing off every female member that joins our club. I seem to remember about 4-5 female members that just don't come around anymore because we're too busy making stupid remarks or sending messages that could be considered offensive. I understand that automotive clubs are generally male dominated, but, would you really say the things in person that you say in these messages on a forum? If someone was right in front of you at a social gathering, would you really say these things? I don't want to make this sound out of proportion because there are some female members that don't have any objections. I just wanted to count on you guys to help out the club by being good to the rare and select few ladies that do bother to buy Z's.

Thread meandering-no real Z content, but Socializing is important too!
Hey, socializing is important. In the past even I was flamed for both trying to create social conversations as well as being too strict and not allowing them. After trying to please both kinds... I finally realized that's it's NOT possible to please everyone all of the time. You'll learn that.... so, just be yourself. Being yourself is a LOT easier than trying to be someone that others want you to be... That said, I don't have a problem with social interaction on this website when it's related to our purpose of creating a fun environment to talk about Z's..... I even added options for us to socialize more... blogs, friendship conversations (see your profile), buddy lists, photo galleries, videos... and a ton of other things. Sometimes it's a little too much, but, it's always fun to discover yet another new cool thing about this club. HA! Mike

You can't trust your FSM?
I had this same problem on an old engine. When the engine was rebuilt the technician put the gear in 180 degrees out of alignment. I had a hell of a time starting the car until one of my buddies suggested that it might be off. We swapped the firing order and it started right up... In my case, it was the fault of the engine builder. Maybe he was looking at the engine upside down when he looked at the rebuild instructions?

heard a rumor today...can anybody confirm it??
The affect of being near the ocean isn't even close to the damage that's done by salty roads. But, I could imagine there would be some damage done to an unprotected car on a cargo ship.

All apologies if you're a member...
Funny stuff. The license plates are in French. The rear plate on the blue one says "I remember"... and the front plate on the red car says "Retirement"... I can't read the small words on the others. The paint jobs do look very well done and there was a lot of attention spent on the pin striping and overall design. I'm not saying it looks that great, but, someone spent some time painting these cars.... very imaginative. I wonder how many clowns they were able to fit in each car?

Scarab Standard Equipment
Here's a list of standard equipment, along with a photocopy of a original order from Scarab. This information is available in other posts, but, I wanted to dedicate a post to this topic. Standard Features: Drivetrain: • Balanced, blueprinted Chevy 350 (300hp) smallblock with electronic ignition • specially designed cross-flow radiator • high-performance water pump • flex fan to cool the 22-quart-capacity system • Borg Warner Super T-10 4 speed with special Hurst competition shifter linkage • complete exhaust system with a pair of glasspack mufflers Suspension: • Koni adjustable shocks • front and rear sway bars • Teflon compression strut bushings • high-performance rack and pinion mounts • and springs by Scarab • torque control arm, it is essentially a quarter-inch-thick piece of steel bent into a U shape, with about 3/8†of rubber laid in the bottom of the U. Scarab installed it from beneath the front differential mount, bolting front and back into holes tapping into the metal framework of the differential insulator. The torque control arm minimized the forces on the mount and on the front end of the differential itself without totally eliminating the cushioning effects of the insulator like a solid mount would. Brakes: • Disc/Drum (power) with HP pads/shoes or optional FIA 4 piston calipers • Later cars could be had with four-wheel discs, and those with drum brakes could have optional finned cast-iron drums Interior: • Door panels are soundproofed and covered in glove soft, hand-sewn Scottish leather • Momo leather steering wheel • Seats were re-padded and covered in Scottish leather and velour to match the door panels and console lid • Deep pile carpeting Exterior: • Trans-Am front air dam, rear Trans-Am spoiler • Twin exterior rally mirrors • louvered hood and access panels • Scarab logo with associated emblems • high-speed driving lights • All exterior Datsun badging was removed from the Scarab factory cars: the low production volume of these vehicles was highlighted by Scarab factory-specific badging that included raised Scarab lettering to replace the Datsun front fender nameplates, and Scarab Performance black-and-gold rectangular decals in the lower left corner of the windshield and the lower right corner of the rear hatch glass heavy gold medallions containing the Egyptian Scarab Beetle emblem Optional Features: • Drivetrain: • 350 SB (325 or 370hp naturally aspirated) • Turbo (425hp) • automatic transmission • Limited slip differentials in R-180 or R-200 Brakes: • four-wheel discs • finned cast-iron drums Interior: • Recaro contoured, reclining bucket seats with headrests • 12 coats of hand-rubbed lacquer Exterior: • whale tail • reverse scoop hood with side fender louvers • rectangular headlights • flared fender packages • rear window shade Wheels: • Cromodora Turbina wheels • Campagnolo or Appliance Wheels • BBS wheels • Pirelli CN36 tires

Scarab on eBay?
I forgot that I did some research on this topic a few years ago. The age must be kicking in. Here's a list of the modifications that Scarab did: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31570 Mike

Scarab on eBay?
Just read the Ebay ad again. The story sounds made up to me. This guy knows too many details about things that happened a long time ago. The first part of his story is something I didn't know: Did Scarab allow people to bring their cars in, from off the street, for modification? If so, perhaps there was a screw up in the serial numbering process and this car was given the same serial number as a production car? Or maybe there was a whole different set of serial numbers given to personally modified cars rather than production cars ? I know the car had a new engine, but, why wouldn't the guy keep the valve covers that say Scarab? I'm sure those are hard to find today .. Scarab registry? Where's that ?

Scarab on eBay?
That's a very nice car you have. I really enjoy the Scarab and would love to get my hands on one in the near future. I'm not doubting the homework you've done or any kind of work ANYONE has done on this car. A lot of parts on that car look like aftermarket to me -- too shiny and modern. I shouldn't have made the points that I did because it would be almost impossible to keep original parts from either breaking or stolen, if the car was actually driven. There are plenty of Classic Z's (including mine) with shiny new aftermarket parts... Do you (or anyone) have a list of modifications that were made by Scarab during their production of these cars? I've created a forum just for the Scarab on this club because I believe it is part of the Classic Z era and deserves to be discussed and written about. For that matter, does anyone know if there are living alumni of the Scarab company? The car on eBay is a nice car. But if it doesn't have paperwork and the serial number is not accurate.... it wouldn't justify the extra $5k. BTW: Who's Craig?
