Poll: Should we prevent gallery downloads?
This has been a hot discussion in our forums. Please give us your opinion. I want to know about the majority vote. At the moment, we are protecting images in the photo gallery from download. Simply put, if someone tries to save your images, our system will prevent them or at least make it a lot more difficult. Do you think we should allow people to download images from the gallery or is this something you think should be protected?

I take that as a compliment. Thanks!! But, actually I saw a need to add some extra effort in this area. Although it did take a few hours to research and develop, the effort wasn't that bad. There were a few comments about how we didn't take action to protect the images, so, I wanted to remedy that. So far, I have done the following to protect your images in the gallery: 1) Right-click does not allow a user to save. 2) Copyright notice on the bottom of the web page. 3) Copyright notice pop-up when someone right-clicks. 4) Watermark on the images. 5) Anti-leeching code that does not allow other websites to display our images on their systems. -- Mike

I've made another change to the gallery. When someone right-clicks on the image it pops up a window with a copyright notice. It doesn't totally prevent hackers saving your stuff. But, it makes it a lot more difficult. Other than hoarding all of the images to your own personal computer, I don't think there is a way to totally PREVENT anyone from accessing your pictures. This is a war that really can't be won. It's something that has existed on the Internet for years. Just look at the Napster fiasco. Anyway, this kind of thing will help keep the honest people more honest. That's all we can do for now. -- Mike

The mailing list is offline until I get a chance to re-compile the mailing list software. It's proven to be a challenge because I am using a different mail transport agent (MTA). I'm holding off until I can figure out how the virtual sites are set up. I should be able to get it running in the next month...

Carl, what would we do without you?

Yes, hoard all of your photos and never share them with anyone. This is divine wisdom. By the way, do you have a link to that Ebay auction so we can report the offender?

Let's explore this concept a little more... In theory, if you take a snapshot of something, the photograph belongs to you. When you upload that image to our site, it still belongs to you. By uploading it to our site, you are publishing the photo so that other people may see it. This is your decision. To help protect your images, we normally add an identifying watermark to the image. And, we have also installed "anti-leeching" code to the images to prevent people from saving the images to their own hard-drive. (have you tried to right-click on an image in the gallery to 'save-as' lately?) Other than keeping all of your images to yourself, there is no way to control how they are ultimately used by other members. But, that wouldn't be any fun now, would it? (I can just see a few of you hoarding your photos like lonely trolls under a bridge saying, "Mine, mine, mine!") We have done all we can to protect your photos. But, ultimately the responsibility is up to you once the photo has been posted.

RIP Indian Larry
This is absurd. Indian Larry died doing what he loved. It's not the fault of the State that he wasn't wearing a helmet. He made a choice to not wear one and he paid the ultimate price for that decision. That was his right. The only reason seat-belt and helmet laws exist is to create additional revenue.

Hi Steven, I immediately thought of you when those pictures went up in the gallery. However, I must admit that all of the good things said with the images were pretty flattering! None the less, it's still your car and you can go outside and drive it. I still love all of those pictures, they were nicely done.

It's dumb that the seller won't send it to you. Priority mail is totally easy to figure out. Oh well. I hope Ed is able to do it for you.

Hey, what do you think?
I actually considered this option as well. The nice part about going with a painted surface is you can identify problems when they occur. If you used a bedliner product, the problems will be hidden by the rough (and thick) surface until it's too late to see the problem. When I say 'problem' I am mainly referring to RUST. Anyway, if someone ever wants to buy your car, you might need to do some explaining as to why you went with the bedliner material. This is due to the fact that many owners try to "cover up" problem areas some way or another. Another reason to NOT go with a bedliner is dirt and water... I've noticed that bedliners can look dirty because of all the little bumps and texture. They basically hold the dirt and require cleaning. A painted surface can simply be wiped clean. There are a few arguments against the bedliner. I suppose there are also arguments FOR the bedliner such as a durability.

MidwestZ??
I've heard a lot of good things about Charlie Osbourne's shop in Canada (Zedd Findings). He contacted me once about sponsoring the site and I failed to follow up with him. If anyone talks to him, mention that we are looking for another good sponsor. I'll have to dig up his number. -- Mike

MidwestZ??
Guys, I think this is put to rest. I just received a cancellation from Midwest Z. They are no longer sponsoring the site. Whatever happened to the company, I hope the people are ok. Midwest Z was our biggest sponsor. -- Mike

Damn, that's a pretty cool logo. I've always liked the Scarab conversion. Can you talk him down? Is there any rust on the car? How about pictures of the whole car? Post 'em... I'd love to see it.
