  1. It's in Orange, California. http://www.zcarparts.com/shows.htm#Info
  2. The Motorsport Auto show is coming in May. Anyone going to it? I'm thinking about it, but, not sure what will happen with my work. I'm supposed to make a trip to Australia sometime before June. But, not quite sure when that will be yet. I'd love to go to the show and promote the club!! If any of you are going to show off your Z, I'd love to talk with you about possibly promoting the Internet 240z Club somehow.... [m]

Guy-geo, I really like this airdam. Is it yours? Give me a few details. What was it like to install it and where did you buy it?
  5. Mike replied to Dan's post in a topic in Body & Paint
Dan, I had no idea MSA had that airdam. Right on... Did you take any pictures of your installation? I'd love to see them. From what I can tell on the pict (front of the site), it looks like that airdam is installed w/out a bumper? Is that true? Or, does it fit over the bumper? The MSA airdam doesn't have any holes for turn signals, eh? How about the quality of workmanship? Good, bad? I've seen good and bad things come from MSA. I sure wish they would review the products themselves before selling them. Oh, and if you don't mind... can you create a review of that airdam and post it to our reviews area? Hint: Create it using a web page editor first, and then paste the code into the field.

Congrats on the car!! As far as the levers.. If they are in the stock position (just below the shifter) then you'll probably want to take a closer look at the installation. There should be ONE choke lever that controls both carbs at the same time. Controlling each carb separately isn't necessary. The second lever was used as a type of 'cruise' control in the '70's... it was a throttle lock. Let's say you get up to 65mph.. If your foot was tired and you didn't want to push on the pedal anymore... you could pull that lever and it would increase the RPM's. This wasn't the safest solution. I came across this info when I purchased a new choke lever system for my '71. The new one came with two levers and 3 cables. Two cables were attached to a single (choke) lever and the other cable just terminated in the engine compartment. I have no idea how to connect the throttle lock.

Glad to hear that everything is okay!! Did they ever catch that jerk-off in the other car?
  15. Mike replied to grantman240z's post in a topic in Introductions
OMFG!!! Glad to see that your arm didn't come out of the car and get crushed or anything else for that matter! If you walked away from that accident, you are one lucky son of a bitch!! Count your blessings, and go buy a lottery ticket! I'm glad to see that you're among the living (walking for that matter). Sorry for the Z, but, it did the job. It protected you. Now.... tell me something...... wasn't that roll fun as hell?! (I just love asking that. At the time, it probably doesn't seem like a lot of fun. But, after you think about it.... what an adrenaline rush, eh?! You can't pay for stuff like that) This is the ONLY time you can ask that question. If anyone got hurt, it wasn't worth the price.

axrph, The more you log in, the better the statics look to a potential sponsor. The idea is, the more the system is used, linked, and pushed... the better it looks to anyone who wants to advertise a product. But, that's not why I created the system. This whole experience is here for YOU. It's here for all the Z owners in the world. It's an information house. I want to make ownership of the Z a better thing. If we need sponsors to help keep it alive... so be it. Anyway, the numbers are more impressive if I can say that people spend a lot of time on the board and actually use it. (rather than hitting and leaving) The question stems from the emphasis on quality. The way it's going now... I'm actually thinking about leaving it alone. The "potential" user base is a lot better and we will keep people on the site longer if we let anyone browse the site WITHOUT logging in. I think the votes are going the other way... but, that's cool. But, the stickler is here... when a user wants to start participating, they are required to create an account. No big deal. Should they also be required to log-in just to read information? That's the question. I know that every time I try to read a news feed and I am asked to log in... I usually cancel and go somewhere else. Maybe I answered my own question.

Es, The statistics module that I use is based upon the visits to our server based upon the IP address of the visitor. It doesn't require that they log in for me to tell what page they viewed, how long they visited, and what they've done on the site. It's actually a log file that I can interpret with a very cool statistics program. But, again, it has nothing to do with registered or unregistered. It's just raw web-site statistics. So, to answer your question, the numbers have no reference to the registration of our visitor. Umm... as far as registered members, the database can tell me how many times a particular user has logged in. But, that user can also log in from many different computers (once from home, once from work, and another from grandmas house is just an example). So, it would tell me that user logged in three times on X day. I think our 'open forum' is the only forum that allows anonymous posting. All of the other forums SHOULD be restricted to posts by registered members (but everyone can view the messages).

2mZ, yep we count all hits and statistics for the site. This is based upon visitor to our server and has nothing to do with the membership. So, yes, I can count the visitors to the site and still let anonymous users view the forums and information. However, when somebody wishes to participate in the site by writing a message, creating a link, or whatever.... they must register. This is our current setup.
  19. On a practical note.... I noticed a DRAMATIC increase in my engine after I installed the 6-to-1 header and 2.5" exhaust. I can't tell you if it was the header or the exhaust, but, I was very happy. Acceleration was smoother and my engine just seemed to 'feel' better to me. Someone once asked me, "Boy Mike, that doesn't sound like you have a L6 anymore..." It was awesome. Makes me want to finish my project and get her on the road again.
  20. Installing a good, well designed, and well built header will always increase horsepower. Why else would anyone want to install a header? What's the point? If you look at the design of a header, you will see each pipe from the head down to the single pipe are the same length. If you were to take all the pipes off the engine and lay them next to each other (assuming that you could bend them so they lay straight), they will be identical in length. The stock header is not designed this way. The exhaust enters a shared chamber and is then blown into a hole at the end where it's supposed to find the low pressure point... and eventually escape. A header is designed to allow the exhaust gasses to smoothly exit the chamber and also provide the least resistence possible. By increasing the diameter of the pipe, the 'balance' of each cylinder, and the more efficient muffler... we are allowed to do this. The engine can 'breathe' easier. Now, I don't know the reason why all of the header pipes are the same length. It allows all of the exhaust to exit at the same rate of speed and pressure, but, beyond that... I don't know. Anyone else want to chime in here? There are a lot of pro's out there that I KNOW have more information than I.

Nope, it's all automated. Unless, of course, something breaks. Then I have to get involved.

Mark, what's wrong with getting a pan from a junkyard? As long as it's straight (no dings), you can refurb it. Take it to an engine shop and ask them to 'dip' it into their special HOT chemical dip. (Remember that movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?!") Anyway, you can then take it to a powder-coat shop and ask them to chrome that puppy.

Should we configure the system so that users must first log in before they can read forums or access the site? Registration is free and we will NEVER charge fees to access our site. But, it might be fair to ask users to log-in before they can read anything at the site. This will enable the administrators (me) to view better statistics and possibly obtain commercial sponsors. What do you think? Please vote and you can also reply to this message. The system is CURRENTLY configured to allow anonymous forum browsing.
  24. I was very happy with my 2.5" exhaust system. I purchased a 6-to-1 header and a complete exhaust kit from MSA. While the header was worth it, the exhaust kit was a POS. Don't buy a exhaust kit. Bring your Z down to the local shop and ask someone to 'bend' you a new system and install it while you wait. I spent nearly the same price on my kit after I had to ask one of the local guys make it 'fit' right. It hung too low, the clamps hung down, and it just didn't seem to fit at all. When he was welding new pieces, he 'discovered' (by accident), that the kit metal was very thin. He ended up replacing 1/2 of the system. When you have a custom system installed, they will do it all right. IMHO, stainless isn't worth the price unless you're gonna show off the car. As far as the header, make sure the flange thickness (the metal flat part that holds the header to the head) is the same as your intake manifold. I had troubles because these thicknesses were different. I bought a standard 'turbo' muffler. It worked great and sounded AWESOME. But, I know there are better mufflers on the market. I also eliminated the pre-muffler. Not sure of the exact function of that muffler (besides making it quieter). But, that location is now used for the catalytic converter (sp?). Basically, a piece of metal gets hot and burns off the fumes if they get through .

Nice, clean looking car!!! You'll soon learn to adjust those carbs and get her running perfectly. Don't worry about the sb'uttering, you'll get used to that.
