OK to drive Automatic trans 240z without modulator?
Assuming the modulator valve is bad, why not just replace it. A new one is not expensive and easy to change. Other than that, give it a test run around the block to see if it will let you shift thru the 3 gears manually. Shouldn't cause any problems for your 20 mile trip if it will let you do that. Make sure the fluid level is up to snuff since it sounds like the failed modulator was allowing fluid to be sucked out of the transmission by the vacuum line before you clamped it off.

Is it the S30 stainless trim you can use for the 510 Charles? If so, I can help you out.

What a saga. But perseverance and patience paid off. I can tell you a similar story about a Black Pearl's strut tower black vinyl ... Looks great Charles!

You are correct. Only 6 bolts align to mount the 240mm pressure plate to the fidanza flywheel. I have the same setup. Not sure if you are looking to replace the mounting bolts. This is what I went with : https://zcardepot.com/collections/engine-rebuild/products/arp-clutch-cover-pressure-plate-bolt-240z-260z-280z?_pos=4&_sid=9c06dc6a8&_ss=r

1970 240z alternator upgrade
I agree with Charles. If the battery gets drained to a low state, always put in on a charger if possible and spare the alternator of all that strain

1970 240z alternator upgrade
I assume that the external regulator is now un-plugged and not in the circuit. With the car running at idle or say up to about 1000 rpm, measure the voltage output at the alternator (your red wire) and tell us what it is. The wiring looks to be correct. No to the light bulb, and no to connecting the alternator direct to the battery. It looks like you have replaced the alternator output wire to the starter with a thicker gauge which is good considering you have doubled the current this wire can potentially carry.

The AAR and its coolant heating block can be removed, but at the cost of no increased idle speed during warmup. You will have to keep your foot on the gas pedal for a few minutes until there is some heat in the engine before it will idle without dying. In your part of the country, should not be a big problem. The AAR is a hard to find part in good working condition if your is bad, so you may be ahead of the game by eliminating it. I had one of the steel coolant lines that feed the heater block under the AAR fail without warning coming home late one night (form Dave Irwin's house) years ago. One of the few times I came close to overheating. Noticed steam coming off the hood before I saw the temp gauge. Made for a longggg ride home those last 8 or 10 miles....

1977 280z EFI Nightmare
Your original driveshaft should be the one to use with the 5 speed. Carefully compare the height of the original clutch pressure plate with the new act one. If they measure the same height, use the original collar. If not, you will need one of the correct height to go with the act plate. Search for the many threads on how to measure this.

The Fidanza will mate to either the 225 or 240mm clutch. The Exedy 6009 is the 225mm clutch kit. i think the 6032 is the 240mm kit.

Reccomendations for a 280z suspension setup
Proposed changes look good to me. Only issue I can see is the impact of the change to 60 series tires on the speedo accuracy. If that is even a consideration.

1977 280z EGR/BPT Intake Plug Size
I agree with Captain O. The block off plate has now isolated the vacuum side intake from those two holes.

Z car value
The automatic will of course detract from the cars ultimate value to prospective buyers, as you elude to. You don't say if you plan to install the 5 speed pre-sale or simply include it with the car. In the end, it's a modified 72 and without more detailed pictures, my guess on value is in the 20 to 25k range. As psdenno has indicated, BAT is a good reference for approximate values. Here is a example : https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-156/

1975 280z Electrical Issue
Before pulling the head, remove the valve cover and take a close look at cylinder 3's valve train. A lash pad or another important item may have come off. I all appears normal, maybe have a assistant crank it and see if both intake and exhaust valves appear to be opening and closing normally. Hopefully, you just have a inoperative valve on that cylinder or a stuck one. The other option is a badly burnt exhaust valve causing no cylinder pressure. best of luck....

Any Mechanics in Pittsburgh?
The ceramic block by the coil is the ballast resistor, only comes into play when starting, so you can rule that out. Sounds like it could be a fuel issue to me, after a drive with the car warmed up and after it has exhibited the misfire, stumbling issue, what is the fuel pressure reading? Is there any way you can monitor it while driving during the misfire? Maybe check the very important ground that the efi harness uses on the intake manifold. Make sure its clean & tight.

Tranny/Diff Ratio and RPM @ Speed
I think @Dave WM put a 5 speed (not sure which one) in his car and retained the stock 3.54 rear end. He might might be able to provide some insight and his driving impressions of that combination.
