Let’s talk about gasoline
Back in the day, when the 280z was sold, there was a recall for the injectors due to problems caused by the new ethanol fuel. I don't remember the dates that recall was in effect. My take on the current industry situation, everyone wants a clean environment, clean air, but the push for green stuff is not ready for prime time yet. as Av8ferg has eluded to with his Tesla experience. Maybe in ten or fifteen years technology will be ready, but until that time, you can't destroy the economic engine of this country which is the oil industry. Common sense in my book. I now return to regularly scheduled programming ...

Carlisle PA 2022
Thought I would share a few pix that Mike W sent me from the Carlisle Import and Performance Nationals this week. Nissan has a special presence there this week with the new Z's release approaching & Mike and his gold cup 260z were invited as part of a special display. Looks like he joins the ranks of @jfa.series1 with special provenance for their cars ... a very good club to be in! Great shots of the old & the new.. Thanks Mike!!

[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Been helping a friend with his 280z, redoing the fuel system, correcting a number issues contributing to the heat soak common problem. Waiting on a new fuel tank from S30 World, decided to quit early today and ran out of table space in my shop for beverages. Found a new use for those big crash bumpers and went All Cliff on it. A tribute to him, I know he likes those ice cold dogs... @siteunseen

Narrowing down my faulty Cold Idle problem, where to get a replacement ?
Terrapin ... You can also test the movement of the shutter just by heating the bottom of the AAR. It sits on a heating plate on the manifold, the coolant circulates thru and as it warms, moves the bi-metallic spring which moves the shutter. Just use a heat gun or your stove if you want.

Narrowing down my faulty Cold Idle problem, where to get a replacement ?
What I would do is drive the car. Maybe it is just me, but the functionality of the AAR would in no way ever prevent me from driving a 280z, especially at this time of year temps. If you remove and bypass it, the car will idle low for 3 or 4 minutes until it gets some heat in it. Do you actually drive the car in the dead of winter in Pennsylvania, or is it primarily a nice weather garage queen car? In very cold weather, yes, you would have to keep your foot on the accelerator pedal for a few minutes to prevent the motor from stalling. I understand trying to keep the car factory correct with all of its original parts functional, but the AAR would not be a deal breaker for me. Just my opinion, your car, your choices....

Hot/Cold knob not moving
As Steve said, it is connected to the watercock, as the slider is moved, it opens or closes the flow thru the heater core.

280 floor pans
What brand are your replacements? Klassic Fab makes some very nice floor pans. I only have experience with the 240 ones, but expect the 280 version to be excellent. https://kfvintagejdm.com/shop/datsun-280z/complete-right-side-floor-pan-datun-280z/

L28 sensors
The one at 11 o'clock is the all important coolant temp sensor that tells the ecu how much fuel for the injectors. The big one at 2 o'clock is the thermotime switch which tells the cold start valve to add fuel and richen the mixture when ambient temps are low at startup. The single pin one at 6 o'clock is the temp sensor for the gauge in the cabin. You can easily test all except the themotime with a vom reading the resistance at a certain temp and referencing the factory shop manual guide.

Wheels and Tires
You need 12 x 1.25 conical seat spline drive lug nuts. Mcgard are very high quality and what I used. Many one here have the rewinds, I have rota's, some will confirm what the rewinds need.

Reconnect broken off corners, interior plastic panels
Looks like the panel I have had a rough life ... Maybe Terrapin had a more serviceable one ... @Terrapin Z

Reconnect broken off corners, interior plastic panels
I'll take a look at that panel tomorrow I removed from the parts car I have, if it's in better condition and you are interested, I'll let you know.

rocker switch needed
I like my fog / driving light switches. Plus the panel snaps back in with the original tabs. I remember @Captain Obviousadmiring them at the Garden of the Gods

Wheels and Tires
The correct bolt pattern is ... 4 x 114.3 I would give 16 x 7" wheels serious consideration, tire selection is much better than 15" Most people choose the wheels first, then look at tires. A great tire size on 16" wheels is 205 x 55 x 16. Very close to OEM diameter and no rubbing.

rocker switch needed
If the 260 console has the same switch blank as the 280z, you can carefully cut out the knock out area, and install a rocker switch such as the ones I sourced from Orielly's for my fog & spots. I tried to get a amber switch for the fogs, but no luck. Here is one at NAPA https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/GRO821901?cid=paidsearch_shopping_dcoe_google&campaign=GSC-Catch-All&campaign_id=6478877959&adgroup_id=79272987338&adtype=pla&gclid=CjwKCAjwgr6TBhAGEiwA3aVuISU9xlR3zFptoGzFAx9hy0P08xM8zturaLAAMwC7XAh7ET0dJpvDYRoCG8wQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&

[2020] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
The cold start valve is not likely to be the problem. It only operates for a very short time to assist with startup, then the thermotime switch shuts it off. More than likely if the idle is low when cold, then improves and the rpm's come up once warmed up, you have a vacuum leak somewhere that is being sealed up after some heat gets in the engine and things expand. An example would be the oil pan.

77 280z Restoration
Did you replace the u-joints in the shafts? If so, there is a correct way to orient them to allow for proper access to the zerk.
