  1. Thanks for taking all those pictures Cliff. Was so great to meet & talk with you.
  2. A fantastic trip, just back. With Jim Arnett's awards, it was like sitting at the table with Steven Spielburg at the academy awards when Jurassic Park won. So great to see Zup's beautiful car win 2nd place in a tough class. Talking to Mr. M with Captain Obvious was an unexpected surprise & honor. (for am hour, the Captain no longer felt insignificant) Meeting all the great people & getting them to enhance my glove box door made the trip very special ...
  3. Myself & Zup leaving for Memphis today, should arrive by around 4pm .....
  4. Finally met up with Zup (Jim) , a great guy! He was in the area picking up his beautifully re-chromed bumpers for his 73 240. Great to talk with him & show him my beloved 280z, as well as the liquor store project I've been working on. Hope to make the trip to Memphis with him coming up soon ... Thanks for stopping by Jim

Nice work, wish I was there as well. Should be a fun first test drive, all that work is going to really pay off ...
  6. The black bumpers look good with your wheels. If your rims were silver or polished alloy, I'd vote for the chrome bumpers.
  7. Completed my purchase of all new tires with the 2 fronts. Mounted & an alignment at Kent Rylee Automotive in Rogers AR. Big thanks to Zup for putting me on to them. Great place & expert job done by Van. Some interesting Detroit iron in there as well - 58 Pontiac & 68 Camero convertible. I love the grip of those Dunlops .....
  8. I might be going with ...... See if I can swing the time off from new job obligations
  9. If I remember right, there may not even be a temp sensor for the injector cooling fan circuit. When the ignition is switched off, it activates the fan and a timer allows it to run for approximately 13 minutes. I think I discovered that when I was doing some work on my turbo car with the engine cold & turned the ignition back off, the cooling fan activated. A look at the ZX FSM wiring diagram should show the circuit.

Nice work! Looks like it all sealed up real well. What will that cylinder head temp sensor be doing, since you have done away with the efi ...

Patience ... I wouldn't do it, the ring radius is different, just wait and get the correct size.
  12. Thanks for all the expert info & advice guys. I guess for the price I can't go too far wrong. A set of flat top pistons & my N47 should yield almost 10:1 CR if I am right, a nice bump.
  13. I agree with Chickenman. I have a lowered 77 with 16x7 Rota's & 205 55 16 Dunlops, Fit is perfect.

I'm sure he meant alternator. I hope. The last generator on a car I had was a 69 Cortina GT, (wish I still had that one).
  15. Thanks for the responses, confirming some of my worries, and the suggestions. It's a $100 deal ... Hear are the other pics
  16. You are right Charles, that's what I'm worried about.
  17. There is a tempting deal not too far from me on a complete rebuilt short block from a 78 Z. I am considering picking it up to replace my tired current motor until I rebuild the F54 turbo motor I kept from one of my other cars. It apparently has less than 2000 miles on the rebuild. The seller built up an F54 with flat tops & kept his head. The pistons, from the pictures are dinged up, and are what concerns me. Is this a major problem, will it cause any issues? Any idea of what could have caused it? Its only 90 miles away from me, is cheap, and if it is indeed a fairly fresh rebuild - new timing set, rings, bearings, etc. looks like a heck of a deal. Any opinions appreciated ...

The 77 has the fuel pump safety switch in the AFM, it was changed in 78 as Sarah has described. You can jumper it temporarily to make sure the contacts are not the problem, & check for power at the pump with the starter solenoid disconnected and key at start.
  19. Car looks great Matt, stance from your coilovers looks perfect as well. (I can never get enough of your engine bay pix, gives me something to shoot for ...)
  20. Ya, I'm thinking the modern ethanol blend gas is at least 50% of the problem. On my recent road trip, I had many 15 -25 min. restarts for gas & food... never had a problem. I attribute my heat coated heat shield to part of the solution. A perk of my new location is the flexibility to buy pure gasoline, less that a mile from my house ...
  21. Wow, that's one impressive, sophisticated control system. Nicely done! I'll have to read up on it on their web site. i can't help but wonder what the final cost was, I'll guess near $1k ...

On the transmission swap, FWIW, Nissan went with the T5 in the turbo cars because it is more robust. The NA 5speed will work for a while, but you will eventually tear it up. I think the Nissan T5 was rated at 260 ft/lbs. The OP does not sound like the kind of guy who will be happy running the stock 6 lbs of boost if he goes with a turbo swap.
  23. Yup, they are directional tires, pix 1 is left, 2 is right.
  24. Got to replace 2 of my very worn Dunlops, from this trip, with 2 new ones today. Ordered from Tirerack. Dunlop Direzza Z2 Star Spec - very sticky tires. Had the Z1's on originally, lasted 5 years. Garrett Tire in Springdale was nice enough to get them on for me today before the holiday weekend. Could only get 2 now due to budget strained from moving expenses, other 2 will be next month. Needed the new tires if I am going to keep up with Zup for the July trip to Memphis ...

Great to see your project coming together nicely! Some interesting innovations that will work out great. Glad you went with Autosport for the shop work, Brad is a great guy.
