Putting in a replacement L-28
You would have to switch over to a 240z points driven distributor & carbs to harden the car for a EMP John. Maybe add them to your spare parts stash, lol. Zup considers that a feature of his 73 as the as the increasing theft protection of the 4 speed ...

resurrecting a 1977 280Z
Lube the key (graphite is best) and move the steering wheel slightly as you turn the key. Maybe the lock has worn more since you tried those keys last.

1978 280z Fusible Links
Pulled the two fusible link assemblies from the 78 parts car today. One was 100% intact - no cover. The other had a broken mounting tab, repaired it with super glue, should be fine, also missing cover. Includes 4 proper relay cover mounting screws. I would replace the fusible links and clean their connections. $45 including USPS shipping, pm if interested ...

Cold Start Issues - Engine sputter (77 280z Auto)
The cold start injector only operates for a very short time when motor is first started. I doubt it is causing the idle issue when cold. You can test it by removing it and tape or plug the intake manifold where it mounts, put valve in a container & start motor. since you replaced it, it is not likely leaking fuel after startup. The reference to the brass connectors, I believe is a reference to the electrical connectors on the wiring harness & sensors.

1978 280z Fusible Links
I'll look at them when the weather improves here in the 78 parts car I have and see if they are in decent shape to be serviceable. The plastic tabs where they screw to the relay cover are often broken.

240z Vented Front Brakes
Thanks for the info.. I pinged one of our local club member last night who knows early cars and he confirmed they were factory parts. A number of the parts will be going up for sale later this week. Many are in amazing condition.

240z Vented Front Brakes
This is interesting, something I have not seen before... I recently acquired a early series 1 240z parts car that is very original, and have been disassembling it in my spare time. It was too far gone rustwise for any thought of restoration. Today, when removing the splash pan, I glanced at the front brakes and noticed that the dust shields have a air scoop to aid in cooling. Has anyone ever seen this before or have any insight about them? Maybe in its early life it was owned by John Morton, lol

Voltage meter spikes intermittently.
Very good news, glad it's up and running correctly. Now, when it's all buttoned up, you need to monitor it to make sure it solved your original issue. Don't forget to replace that blue paint on the cover screw to maintain originality ...

Voltage meter spikes intermittently.
@SteveJ 77z wants to remove the top of the regulator and inspect and possibly clean the contacts. What do you think? I agree, verifying the connector signals would be great, especially if a pin was swapped for the aftermarket regulator.

Voltage meter spikes intermittently.
You can tell its the correct regulator for the 77 280 by the round plug with the recessed male pins. The 240 is a rectangular connector and the 260 is a different round connector with external pins. Possibly a change was made to the harness wiring pins when the solid state regulator was installed. 240 connector 260 connector

Putting in a replacement L-28
Thanks John, I installed one 18 months ago in a 75 280z. All new Speedhut instruments as well. Was very impressed with the quality of the dash which at the time I believe was in the $900 range.

Putting in a replacement L-28
John, since you purchased your dash recently, can you share what the final cost was... The 240 dashes are now at least $1325 with shipping and a 5 or 6 month wait time. At the new price, it puts Just Dashes back in the picture. Maybe the 280 dashes are still lower, hopefully and there is inventory.

280zx tail light center panel assembly
It's not a factory part, it was made by a aftermarket accessory company. Normally the license plate mounts there. Seen them come up from time to time on Ebay or craigslist. I think they made that that said Turbo as well instead of 280zx.

Putting in a replacement L-28
Is there enough room to just extend and use longer rubber hoses to achieve a more graceful, non kinking curve? Also, I have seen wire coil springs used on the outside of the hose to prevent kinking at the bends.
