If the flexplate does need to be replaced, (cracked or missing teeth) the motor Mark Maras is looking at in Portland is in an automatic car. I am sure you can make a deal with him if he acquires the motor to get the flexplate. Any flexplate up to 81 will work, after 81 the design changed due to a different torque converter.
  2. WD40 has moisture dispersant properties & lubrication. Deoxit is primarily a contact cleaner. The WD is a good idea, but if you are careful and clean only a small area at a time, you probably can get away without it. I used the Deoxit when I cleaned the bay as I went along since you end up temporarily moving some connectors as you clean the bay.

Nice find & great job on the floors! Looking forward to your progress. I have that job coming up on a 71z. Love those adjustable jack stands & the 2 RC planes...
  4. What a sad thing to happen just as things were coming together for you and your car. Makes me sick. Have followed your thread for a while now,and just wanted to say I wish you the very best of luck Jai with the outcome. (at least the door does not appear to have any damage)

Dave's harness sold thru MSA is a very high quality upgrade, the other - not so much. This is one of those times, you get what you pay for.

"Couldn't help but notice the two relays under the passenger seat. One is for the brake light, but what is the other one for? My 01/77' only has the brake light relay." Greg - I think the 2nd relay if for the seat belt interlock. Charles - I will report back on the effect of the fatmat when I have the rest of the interior in & can drive the car again - hope it cuts down a little on the road noise & maybe some of the tunnel heat. Cliff - The number on my invoice shows 801, no number is on the carpet. I was specific that mine was a late 77 model, 6/77 coupe. Thanks for the kind words guys....

Finally made some time over the last 2 weeks, and took advantage of the last of the near 80 degree weather to get going on the interior refresh of my 77 280z. Took out the seats, carpet & under padding, revealing the floors have still survived in very nice shape - only a little surface rust in a few of the low areas. Wire brushed the surface rust, cleaned the entire floor with marine clean, and applied POR to the needed areas. Decided that while I was replacing the carpet, to install Fatmat sound deadening. The weather cooperated to get this installed until last Thursday which is when I completed it. The warmer it is outside, the better it likes it. Also invested in a heat gun which came in handy for some areas. A tedious job to get it all installed, much measuring & cutting, and you &cant work with too large an area at a time. I used around 41 Sq Ft to do the entire floor & tunnel area to the rear deck bulkhead. I have about 8 or 9 sq ft left over from the 50 ft roll & will probably need another 10 sq ft to complete the rear deck area. The carpet kit was purchased from Chester & Herod Vintage Auto Carpet, and am in the process of completing that installation. Mainly trimming in the console area & where the seat belt retractor bolts down. Ended up re-using my original underpadding which was in great shape. The new jute underpadding looked to be of fairly low quality and not enough supplied. The new carpet makes my parking brake boot look shabby - will have to get a new one! Now its on to installing the beautiful Interior Innovations leather seat kits & the seat heaters as soon as my hog ring stuff arrives....
  8. Very nice, thanks for posting that, I love the ending...

Over a year since installation, DB Link unit still going strong & have had no issues with it. For clarity, it uses mini ANL fuses ...

Very nice score Mr Zup! Not much to improve on except bugs & dirt ... I know you drove there with new floor mats over brand new carpet & removed them for the show. (mats stored in my car during judging) Also "can dirt on the exhaust" - maybe that's canadian dirt. (no offence to the Canadian members, I always thought their dirt was fine) +1 on hanging with the Z Brothers

Thanks for taking the time to do the comparison. I'll be looking forward to your take on the outcome. May the best coating win....
  12. Another option to consider are the BC coilovers from JPN Garage that HaZmat used. He appears to love them. You can see them in his rustoration thread.
  13. The sensor rossiz is referring to is the cylinder head temp sensor. It's a variable resistance sensor (not a switch) for the ecu in the zx cars. The switch in the Black Dragon catalog looks like it might be the one for the injector cooling fan on the ZX cars.
  14. It's in my signature Jai .... 1971 240z 02/71 HLS3022441
  15. Thanks you guys! Yes, it's very nice to have the space plus a concrete floor & the walls are insulated. Sliding door front & rear. It's about 2 1/2 miles from my house & 200 yards from where I work. (close proximity to unlimited refreshments in case Cliff drops by) My orange 280 will be stored there to keep the silver car company thru the winter. As well as Zup's 300zxtt. Jim A. - I have not met Scott yet, Zup & I are working on that though. Looking forward to it.
  16. I have always wanted a 240z & have on occasion, come close to finding one in the past. Now, I seem to have the storage & shop space to work on one ... Through an incredible & generous deal with Zup, a silver 71 240z is now part of my life. Moving it to its new home, I thought I might borrow one of these rigs... But ended up using a flatbed tow truck. Silver Z now safely in its new home. Its a pretty solid car, was sitting for a while, will need floor pans & rear wheel arches, etc. The battery area & rear deck sill are in great shape. Have not had time yet to really go over the car in detail but will soon & I am excited to start working on it. Just need to finish the interior refresh on my 280z first. My intent is to make it a worthy older brother to Zup's immaculate silver 73. Thanks again Jim, you're the best! I wonder if I will run out of space in that big storage building.... oh look, there's another one near it

When I did mine, I used a wire wheel attachment on my power drill to thoroughly clean the inside of the bumpers of any corrosion, then bought the POR15 starter kit & used the cleaner and metal prep, then applied the POR. Tape any holes in the bumper to prevent it getting on the chrome surface. After it dried, I painted over the POR with a gunmetal grey paint. Came out great.
  18. Looks like a relay that someone added to the headlight circuit at some point.
  19. The CRC 1 is available at Oreillys, L moly for Amazon. JD available anywhere fine beverages are sold ...
  20. Read this post on super injector cleaners and decided to pit my personal choice (cheaper than seafoam by volume) against the CRC 1Tank. I'll let you know how it turns out ....

Thanks for the tips Geoff! I will likely take your advice on buying the 2nd seat foam for the driver side. Be interesting to see what mine look like when I disassemble the 2 seats. You read my mind on the seat heater kit, & got a great deal! Way more from Amazon. I remember seeing your console switches & they did look factory - great job. I'll probably give you a call when all my parts get here & get some more install info from you if you don't mind.

I am awaiting delivery of my custom leather seat kit from Interior Innovations and am looking for feedback, ideas on the replacement seat foam. First, I am tall (6'2) and am concerned that if I renew the driver seat foam, I will bump up against the headliner due to the new less compressed foam. My idea is to put the older passenger foam (likely much less compressed) in the driver side & buy one new foam for the passenger side. With the savings from one less new seat foam, I can put that into sound deadening material with the new carpet kit that is also on its way. What do you think? Any feedback or ideas most welcome.
  23. Will do.... Have a couple of things to research first before I take the carpet out - may put in FatMat or Dynamat, also the seat foam.
  24. Getting ready to transform my interior. Ordered my new carpet kit, and will rebuild the seats with leather seat covers from interior innovations. wish me luck...
  25. Spent the day with Zup at a nearby casino classic car show. Huge turnout. 99.9% Detroit iron, and sadly, no import or daily driver class or JimD & his beautiful 240 would have surely walked away with a 1st place victory. (I think he is trying to close the gap with jfa.series1 in trophy collecting) There was a total of 4 import cars including our Datsuns. Tough to compete when your in the 1960 - 1980 classic class with all those domestic beauties. A great time, thanks Jim ... and I only lost 20 bucks in the casino (the import car section)
