  1. Jim, Thanks for the extra info on these new reproduction bumpers. You did your part in getting the correct specs to the manufacturer! BD sold their inventory of bumpers with the close out sale, but it would be nice if the other vendors discounted the "defective" rear bumpers until the corrected ones are available. Robert S.

My first two orders from BD arrived this week. My orders consisted mostly of seals, small rubber parts, door handles, and lense covers. As previously warned, I couldn't help myself and made one more pass through the catalog today. Most of the items have been sold, but I still managed to spend another $280! That puts my grand total to nearly $600 for the 3 orders. So, everything in the first two orders arrived safely, except a pair of front turn lenses were cracked. I called BD and they refunded the money. Thankfully I ordered two pairs, so I still have a good pair. Today when I placed my order I called ahead to ensure they were still in stock. The lady said it's been busier than it's been the past 6 months! Anyway, these parts will help towards the restore of my car. Robert S.

Mike, Sorry I wasn't able to use your chrome services either. I still want to get my plastic pieces chromed, but I haven't finished dismantling my car yet. Robert S.
  4. Sorry to hear about the quality issue with the new bumper. I think the ones sold (previously now) from BD are the same ones sold from MSA. I wonder if this was an issue with all the new back bumpers or a select few?

Guy, After you made this post I checked BD again and the new bumpers were already sold out! This is probably the best deal of the close out sale! I paid $250 for an original bumper that was rechromed in 1987 and sat in storage for +20 years. I still have to get the front bumper guards and my back bumper rechromed, which will cost a lot more than $190. Last night I went through the BD catalog one more time and ordered a few more items and some duplicate items that were a good deal. There were a lot more items sold out. I promise I'm done buying parts for now. Robert S.

Hey guys, I haven't posted in a long time and I hope everyone is doing well! I've never bought anything from Black Dragon before, but when I saw how low the close out prices are I had to take advantage of it! Since I'll be restoring my '71, I'll also need to replace a lot of parts! I spent 6 hours going through the catalog last night and filling up my shopping cart, and the got up at 3am to spend a few more hours shopping. I was comparing prices with Courtesy Nissan and MSA Z Store before adding items to the cart. Of course these sale prices are lower than OEM Nissan parts, but they were also less than MSA. Since I've never bought parts from Black Dragon before I'm still leery about the quality, but I couldn't pass this up! In total I bought $191.40 in parts and the shipping to my home in Iowa was $26.25. Even last night there were parts I wanted, but they were already NLA or "back order", namely the emblems, window cranks, and passenger door pull. Anyway, if anyone needs a US shipping address, which is close to Kansas, I'm willing to accept packages and send them on to you. Also, if I wasn't using original bumpers on my Z with the bumper guards, I would have bought a pair of new ones! Robert S.
  7. Kurby, I just bought a lot of parts from Black Dragon since they have going out of business prices. I've never bought parts from them before and I'm still leery how the quality compares to OEM parts. I bought a lot of rubber pieces, including the hood bumpers, but the bumpers are now $2.25 each. The nuts for the hood bumpers are NLA though. With the extremely low prices, I figured it's worth a gamble! Robert S.
  8. Brian, I'm not sure how I missed your post, but your website is full of great information and I'll be saving it for future reference for work on my '71 240Z! Robert S.

For $38.5K I'd expect everything on the car to be correct. The ad states the car has the original engine, so it's odd they changed the valve cover. The incorrect items on the car could easily be changed and don't really detract from the beauty of the car. It will be interesting to see what she brings, but I expect it will be closer to $30K. 12. I bought my Nissan pickup new in 1997 and it still runs great! After 17 years the exhaust system rusted out (mostly the muffler), but I only drove the truck one winter in Iowa so the body is still clean. We don't have much need for leaf blowers in the winter, although it would work for the dry powder snow! Robert S.
  13. Cliff, That looks amazing considering it's the original paint job! I also liked seeing the Nissan Hardbody in the background. It seems like a lot of guys that own Z's also have a Nissan pickup! Robert S.

  17. Bart, I know you've been looking for a nice Series I dash. I'm going to send you a PM. Robert S.
  18. Trevor, Congratulations on the twins! I'm going to send you a PM to inquire about the '71 since I live about 3 hours west of you in Cedar Rapids, IA. Robert S.

The final bid ended at $17,600 with 34 bids and the reserve was not met! I guess with catch phrases like "incredibly rare", "collector's dream", and "amazing" how could you not want this "original vintage sports car at a great price"! At these prices, I'm going to start trolling the salvage yards for Z's to sell. Robert S.

As mentioned in the Ebay ad, the owner originally bought the carbs to put on his restoration of HLS30-01138, but never used them on the car. The car was sold on Ebay in Sept. 2013. I found a previous discussion about this car and one of the sale ads still left online: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/ebay-craigslist/50394-1138-ebay.html datsun 240 z vin 1138 So, the car he bought the carbs for has a manual transmission. Now I'm wondering what the difference is between carbs for a manual and automatic transmission? Robert S.

Bruce, I should have known you'd comment on this post. If I'm not mistaken these carbs will also work for '71 Series II cars. Robert S.

Tom, I could have used Roger's help when I started buying new sheet metal, but of course he closed up shop a while ago. With the help of some friends, I was able to locate a "new" Nissan hood and "new" aftermarket quarter panels. Both had been stored away +20 years, but never used. I also bought NOS fenders from Nissan. Glad that Roger's doing well and has been a good resource for you! The photos of the floor pans look great! I look forward to seeing more progress of the work! Robert S.

The bidding is now up to $7600 and it's definitely not worth that amount in its current condition. From the little that can be seen in the photos, this car is restorable and worth more than a parts car, but the bidding war is out of control! This car isn't worth as much as the '71 "barn find" we discussed a few days ago (Datsun Z Series Coupe | eBay). The second listing for that car was ended before the auction ran its course, so I don't know what it finally sold for. Like many here, I wish all of the 240Z could be saved, but that just isn't reality. Robert S.

Guys, Good catch on the urgency to sell the car quickly! Bill, thanks for posting the photos from January. It doesn't look like any work was done by the current owner and he just wants to flip the car. I found several other 240Z's he sold this year by searching the phone number provided in the ad. Despite the missing and damaged parts, this car looks like it's worth saving. However, I don't think it's worth over $5K as the bidding now stands. Hopefully someone that appreciates early Z's will buy this car and restore it. Robert S.
