NH 1972 240Z in classifieds
Carl and Joel, Thanks for sharing the "detailed" history of the car. As mentioned, knowing the history of the car doesn't necessarily increase the value of the car, but it does increase the pride of the owner. I was honored to speak with the original owner of my car some 25 years after he last owned it. This doesn't add value to the car, but it certainly makes you feel part of something bigger. Robert S.

NH 1972 240Z in classifieds
Joel, I saw the ad for your 240Z a few days ago and found the history of the car fascinating. So, it was almost restored in the Nissan program. Do you know why Nissan decided not to restore the car? Perhaps Nissan ended the program too soon? Robert S.

1972 z Restoration
I agree, you've got a nice looking Z and I hope the rest of the process goes smoothly for you! I wish the body on my car was that clean, but of course I haven't started the body work yet. Keep us posted! Robert S.

Opinions on frame repair.
Mark, I understand your position and will soon be starting major rust repair on my 240Z. I bought the car knowing it would require a lot of work to restore, but I also intend to learn everything I can about about the restoration process, including rust repair and body work. I have the benefit of a friend who will be helping me with the process, otherwise I wouldn't attempt this large undertaking. While it's true that starting with a clean body is best, don't let that discourage you from saving your Z. If it were up to me, I'd like to see every early Z saved from the crusher! Let us know how it works out for you. Robert S.

Barn find
One of my favorite cliches in these ads is the use of the word "rare". Is the car rare because it's an automatic transmission or because of the condtion of the car? Robert S.

Some interesting and expensive Z's
While I like to see the prices of Z's going up, I have to agree some of these cars are grossly overpriced. In particular, the white '73 going for $27,500 states the "Documented mileage: 195,000". Although the 280ZX also seems overpriced, it's a nice looking car! Robert S.

In need!!!!
Mike, I see you have this car listed on Datsun Classifieds (FS:1972 240z, 1972, $ 3,500.00) with the detail "newly rebuilt engine(numbers matching car)". I corresponded with the seller in Tulsa, OK in May 2012 and from the photos he sent the car didn't have the original engine. The engine block number in the car was L24-084536 and the engine tag has L24-060309. Unless the original engine was found, the classified ad doesn't fully disclose the condition of the car. Robert S.

280Z Spotted in "Pain & Gain" Movie
Good catch on the bumper! I spend more time researching 240Z's, so I overlooked that detail. Robert S.

280Z Spotted in "Pain & Gain" Movie
That's it Mike! I was trying to determine whether it's an early or later 280Z, but you can't see the hood to tell if it has the hood vents. However, it looks like the wheels are from a '77 or '78 Z? I no expert on Z wheels though. Robert S.

280Z Spotted in "Pain & Gain" Movie
Hello Guys, I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but in the movie trailer for "Pain & Gain" that was released in April 2013, there's a 2 second shot of a blue 280Z. You can see the Z at minute 1:28 and 1:29 in the trailer: Pain & Gain (2013) - YouTube! Needless to say, I was excited to see a Z at the movies last night! Robert S.

Branson Z Fest 2013
It's almost time for the Branson Z Fest! We'll be heading down on Thursday and plan to attend the BBQ that evening. On Friday we're going to a few shows and of course on Saturday we'll be attending the car show. From the registration map, it looks like 13 S30's will be at the show. See you guys there! Robert S.

5222 unrestored
I agree the AC compressor doesn't look period correct, but the AC control panel looks correct. As a side note, I've been debating whether to put the AC back into my car because I hate how it clutters up the engine bay, but I like the compressor mounted where the smog pump goes. Robert S.

My Datsun 240Z
Bart, Glad to see more progress on the Z! I've been too busy with other stuff to work on my car. Robert S.

Motivation - or the lack thereof...
Kelly, Glad you're making progress! I've heard about the homemade Acetone/ATF lubricant and need to try that. I used PB Blaster on the rusty bolts on my car (mostly under the fender and hood) and my garage smelled for days! Robert S.

Just listed my 72' 240Z on eBay

researching previous owners
Greg, Thanks for the update. That's a great story from the previous owner! Robert S.

Motivation - or the lack thereof...
Kelly, After what you've been through, I'm glad to hear that you are doing better. I looked through the photos of your car that you posted back in 2005. Even with the extra rust it's got now, it still seems like a great Z considering we live in the Midwest! I know there are CZCC members in the Chicago area, but I don't know if there is an active Z club in Chicago. Hopefully some of the Z guys in Chicago will contact you and help you out. Being from the Midwest myself, I think it's important to preserve the Z heritage in this area, especially since there are fewer cars here. I hope you find the motivation to get the Z running again. Robert S.

researching previous owners
Greg, It's fascinating to learn the history of your car and speak with the previous owners. It may not add value to the car, but there's something unique about sharing their memories of the car, as well as creating new ones as you restore the vehicle. One of the highlights from purchasing my car has been talking to the original owner who is 81 years old. I'm hoping he's around to see the finished project. Thanks for sharing your story. I've found that most previous owners enjoy talking about their cars, even if it seems a bit strange to others. Robert S.

Rebuilding my 71'
Eric, Thanks for posting the photos of your project and for giving us "faint of heart" more courage! I'll be starting the rust repair on my '71 Z this summer after some other projects are complete. My friend and I just placed a large order with MSA, which includes new repair panels, floor pans, and frame rails for my car. I wouldn't attempt a project this complex without his experience to guide me, but I still get overwhelmed with the amount of work and my lack of knowledge. I checked out the photos you posted 7 years ago when you made the trip to pick up this Z. It really gives perspective to the amount of damage you recently repaired: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/data/500/IMG_0604.JPG Also, the photo of your Frontier pulling the Z reminded me of the trip to pick up my car: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/data/500//IMG_0608.JPG http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/members/ehlersrs-albums-1971-datsun-240z-picture53969-took-several-attempts-line-car-up-car-dolly.jpg Robert S.
