From black to silver
Colour is on the inside of hatch and door frames. Put the doors and hatch back on for final sanding and paint. In Ontario body shops are mandated to use water born paint. It is the law:stupid: My brother spent a lot of money to replace his paint system because of this. It was difficult to find 901 silver in the new water born setup. The furniture industry has not been forced to stop using solvent based paints. 901 silver is easily found using the old solvent based paints. Hence we called my Z a dining room table and ordered the old solvent based paint in base coat-clear coat automotive paint at Carquest. The water born paint does work alright(i did read about it on another thread) but we are real happy to use the old solvent based paint in this case. This a picture with doors fitted and hatch fitted also the making sure the front and rear spoiler fit properly before painting them separately. One more time block and sand(a lot of work) Casey

$38K for an Automatic!
What he said! People research this site and believe what they read. A little self promotion would help people who invest big in a great car. No sense shooting ourselves in the foot.:stupid: Casey

I am am many years past being a magnet for "BABES" except for the fact that I have 5 daughters:stupid: The stripping and paintprep work is being done by my brothers sister in law Tammy who is a licensed body mechanic and has a real eye for details.

From black to silver
This is my brothers shop and we have an arrangement:cool: I bought new fenders from Nissan and the quarter panel myself. All surprises have been addressed:stupid: It is hard to put a real value on this due to the fact that my time is not factored in. Most shops would rather do collision work and will do restoration work on an hourly basis do to all the unknown issues that will arise on a forty year old vehicle. Even so my car is not a show car but a driver. It will be a nice driver. This type of project is a labour(Canadian spelling:beer:)of love not for financial gain. Our old Z's(pronounced "zeds") are fun to drive and draw lots of attention where ever you go. Casey

My brother Pete's shop. 5 Star Collision in Grimsby Ont. I have been doing a lot of the unskilled work and leaving the skilled work to the expert. When you peel a 40year old car down to bare metal it's history is exposed. We found and repaired some old shoddy body work. I will post some more pictures when I have a chance Casey

Ebay came through with a rust free quarter. New fenders from Nissan. Close to final blocking and sanding. First pictures are of donor quarter panel from Washington State. We in Ontario are amazed at the condition of parts when salt is not a factor:stupid: The quarter is lined up and tacked into place and should be welded in place by now:)

Body work The Z is in the shop stripped of its paint. Will post pictures of progress. The biggest surprise was the right rear quarter. It was free of rust but not free of previous damage and needs to be replaced. I need to find one. If anyone knows of one in the northeast USA I could pick it up. I also have shipping address in New York State. Casey

I did get the paint about 2 months ago. The web site seems different because I did order from it. I imagine a call would work. Casey

Fastest Car You Have Ridden In?
My friend and I were hitchhiking when we were 15 and a 1967 Plymouth GTX with a 426 Hemi picked us up. The raw power and acceleration was out of this world. Got hooked for life:) There have been faster cars since but that was pretty cool:cool: Casey

Dry ice is the bomb...
It is -17 degrees Celsius or -4 degrees Fahrenheit (in American English) outside. Left the heat off in the shop and the old tar mat comes off quite nicely. No dry ice required. Welcome to winter in Canada! Casey
