  1. Alright thanks guys.
  2. Ok, thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. The thing is I think I already have all the parts for the fuel injected 280 engine. So for me the money and time thing is not really that much of an issue since either way I am going to have to put a new engine in the car. I'm just not sure which one would be better. So the 240 engine would be easier and less complicated and the 280 engine would be faster and more modible but also more complicated? Is that the general consensus? Sorry for all of these questions I'm just trying to figure everything out and learn about these cars.
  3. So what is wrong with the fuel injection systems? Are they just not as good?
  4. Thanks guys I really appreciate it.
  5. Well I want to be able to show it off, but mainly I wanna be able to drive it. I definatly prefer speed over looks. It will be going into my 240z car. So you think that carbs are still the way to go? Does the fuel injection just not add enough for the hassle?
  6. The 240 engine is in the car now, but I have to rebuild it becuase the compression is bad. So I have to test the compression in the old racing 240 engine I have and if that is good than I will either put it in or the 280 engine that I have. I don't really have experience maintaining either. What are the major differences?
  7. I have a 280z engine and both a fuel injection setup and a carboration setup and I don't know which one would be better. What are the pros and cons?
  8. Ok, thanks. I really appreciate it.
  9. Oh an SteveJ I actually bought a new resistor because I thought that might have been the problem.
  10. Well first of all that is an awesome pic Alhbln. All the wiring is original as far as I know, but I just put in a brand new ignition. I have checked the wiring diagram I have in my owners manual thing and as far as I can tell all the wires are hooked up correctly. I have not been able to start the car because I have been trying to work out all the kinks and I just found out that the compression is off so I have put another of my engines in. But when I was trying to start it I would turn it over and check the resistor and it would be burning up and the coil would be warm too and unless I unhooked it it would stay hot.
  11. Thanks for the advice. I want to keep at least a z car engine in it. I have a 280 engine with fuel injection that I could rebuild and put in it or I have this old 240 racing engine that I don't know anything about. I'm just hoping to find a way to boost the horsepower without too much money since I'm a college student. Thats why I was wondering what kind of turbo's and stuff would work. I really appreciate all your guy's help.
  12. Well that's what I thought at first but have tried three other coils, while none of them are new, I doubt that all of them are bad. So ya... I kinda ran out of ideas.
  13. The external resistor that is near the coil. I know that resistors warm up, but it gets really hot, like too hot. The coil also warms up too. I'm wondering if there is a short in the system.
  14. I have tried to start my 72 240z but when I continue to turn the key the resistor keeps getting really hot. What kinds of things could cause this?
