  1. If that is indeed what it is -- let me know, I want one! How does that tool work?
  2. Thanks Ed! I will try this tomorrow (unless I am sitting on the couch watching the race). I will post pics and experience after I give it a whirl.
  3. Ok -- seasoned veterans and rookies alike! How did you get the crank out of your L-series? I have the main bolts out, but the FSM calls for some special Nissan tool. I will go get one if I have to, but I would rather find out if there are any hobbyist ways to do this. I can post pics if anyone wants to see what I mean. Thanks!

I have not purchased anything local oustide of the routine maint. parts. I think your best bet will be Olympic Import Auto Parts. Its open on Saturdays too -- its over off of shady grove down by UPS (gaither rd. I think?). They should stock -- or at least have in their warehouse close to anything you may need.

Gealic -- it's not so bad getting through inspection really... All the things they check for really (except the bumpers) ensure safety in the long run... My 86 RX passed the first tim e-- and that thing was a bucket when I got it... Make sure your exhaust has no leaks, no rust holes go all the way through, (you cant have any holes) the tie rods and steeering linkage are in good shape, good brakes and tires, all the lights and stuff work and you are golden -- these really are things that you probably would be checking for streetability anyways.. What does it need to run?

Only problem is that I am packed into a 1 car garage and need the space -- always. I will also most likely be making a habit of needing to rebuild something or other, I will be racing one of my Zs... Projects=excuse to buy cool new tools. If a project does not require a new tool, serious consideration should be given as to wether or not the project should be done.

www.victoriabritish.com (geta catalog there!) Your local parts shop usually carries at least one item that may fit your Z (possibly requires a bit of modification)

  16. Ok -- I am joining the club and I have to say -- THIS SUXX!!! I have mushroomed both sides of the spindle pin and I still cannot seem to get it out.... If there is a tool for this job, please let me know as I have 3 left to go... And I have not even finished the first one!!! AKK!

Thanks 2manyZs! BTW -- I never found the post on removing the rear control arm pins... Any sage advice? I have my FSM, but have not researche dit yet -- busy ripping my spare motor down and trying to make space in my 1 car garage.

You can register your car w/o emissions -- you will definitely need safety though. If they require emissions you will get a notice to bring it in. You can get emissions done on a saturday too. In derwood there is a station -- across from where Robert's Oxygen and the metro station is...

Your right around the corner from me... :+) I am not sure about emissinos -- my 86 RX-7 seemed to never have to be inspected so I can only assume that there is a drop off point somewhere for emissions. I have had to get my 93 Civic and my Navigator inspected for emissions twice...

Yup yup -- you need MD safety inspection before you can get your hard tags.

Anyone know what a trimmed out 280Z (FI) N42 engine weighs in at? I am getting an engine stand and there is a $200USD difference between the 750LB model and teh 1ton model. I really dont want a stand that could hold a mack truck engine -- just one to support my straight 6 for rebuild...

I am looking for front fenders, hood, inspection hood, and a shifter linkage. I am putting all of these on a 76 280. I am pretty sure tehy are interchangable -- anyone jump in and let me know if I am wrong!
  24. At least I am on to the fun stuff eh?
  25. Ok -- I maybe should have posted this to the tech area, and perhaps I am truly a moron... I dont have a service manual nearby and I am tearing down the suspension off of my roller and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to take the lower control arms (I think that is what you call these?) off of the strut housings.. I am attaching a pic so please if you have done this please help -- the brain is not firing on all 6 on this one! p
