Speedometer jumping needle from 0 to 10 mph
That's what I couldn't remember about this. I tried it and ended up replacing my cable. From Zcardepot.com New speedometer cable for Datsun 240Z, 260Z and 280Z, 1970-1978. Replaces the stock speedo cable. Part #: 800-045 If your speedometer is not working or is jumping around this cable might be the fix. So I would check out your speedo before ordering the cable. It also doesn't say its a Nissan part but....

Hi Jai, I'm really surprised you got this from a worn out clutch. Specifically the "very quick starting". Hope you have no more problems with her. Good luck and keep us informed.

76/77 280z driving lights not working
Dave rebuilt mine about 7 years ago, IIRC, and it is still working like new.

datsun 280z
Good luck with the search. They are getting harder to find, especially in good shape, I mean "wood" shape. Welcome to the club!

Newbie with a few Z's
Here in Cali they're a zillion dollars a dozen! Welcome Chip. More Z pics.

My Hoarding of Z Parts
Hoard away! I would if I could. Hell, there aren't any Z's left in the junk yards out here. I may have a set of rear brake shoes, some nuts and bolts and a hood I'm trying to find time to work on. But that's it! I envy you guys that have a surplus of parts. Or that have found "usable" parts.

Old photos of my 1971 Redwing
Well I can remember when white walls were in and curb feelers, etc. Things that make you go, eeeeww gross today. But I sure wish I had an early 240 white walls or not.

Nice! Are those white walls in pic #3?

Nissan comes through again!
Greg, I forgot all about those! Thanks for the reminder. I'll also see what Cliff comes up with. I do like the original look. Been looking on ebay for a short period of time with no result.

Nissan comes through again!
Excellent! The last time I went into the Nissan dealer here the guy looked at me as if I were speaking in tongue's when I asked if he can check on a part for my 280z! My scuff plates can't even be restored. The driver side anyway.

Speedometer jumping needle from 0 to 10 mph
I had the same thing with my 280. While I was under it one day I noticed a bend in the speedo cable. Replaced it and it went away.

Cliff, are those the scuff plates for your 240? I wish they still had the ones for my 280.

Looking at this 280z for first project car, need advice
I'd want more pics of the car before I could even consider placing a bid, offer. Under carriage, the wiring issue, proof of turbo, etc, etc. Just looks like a parts car to me. Missing too much. Note the hole where the EGR goes.

How much for early SU carbs?
Obviously you don't live in California or anywhere that has a "visual" inspection as part of the emissions testing. Or do you have emissions testing at all?

And if it is still the original CAT there should be a heat shield over it. If you have that then more than likely you have one. I know for a fact that a rich running Z wil,l over a short period of time, destroy a cat. Ask me how I know. Iv'e gone through 2 in the last 7 years.

Somethings wrong...
A good tune-up, as mentioned above, is a good start. I do a tune-up on my 77 twice a year. Over kill? Maybe, maybe not. It doesn't give me any trouble. Sometimes I think it's due to boredom. I adjust my valves twice a year and probably only put about 5,000 miles at the most. Lets see a pic of the plugs also if you can. Are they all the same, sooty?

The cap and rotor are different. I did the swap in my 77.
