California 1978 Datsun 280z Restomod
Just make sure your tach and speedo are up to par maintenance wise. Bulbs, etc. are good. Because once you install that dash cap you will NOT be able to remove the tach and speedo. I have tried several times to remove mine with no luck! And the cap won't fit without some finagling. Mine required heat to make it fit "better", not perfect by any means. To this day I wished I had just covered all the cracks with a dash mat instead of a cap. Was lazy and had an upholstery shop, that a friend recommended, do it and they put freakin' silicone all over the dash which is incorrect. But I didn't find this out until I made an attempt to remove it at a later date! Biggest mistake I've made with this Z besides the cowl induction hood, which is going away soon.

Parts Wanted: looking for.....
View Advert looking for..... Does anyone have a known good working temp gauge for a 77 280 that they don't mind parting with? I'm in need of one. Trouble shooting my coolant system and it has lead me to what I believe to be a defective one. Looks like 77 and 78 will work, according to my microfiche Thanks Advertiser rcb280z Date 07/22/2019 Price Category Parts Wanted Year 1977 Model 280z

Repair distributor vacuum advance pot?

Repair distributor vacuum advance pot?
Thats what your vacuum canister does. It advances timing when needed. Mine maxes out at, approx., 35 degrees around 3000 rpms. Hook up a timing light and see what happens when you open the throttle from the idle position. You should see the timing mark start to advance. And that is assuming you have a functioning vacuum advance canister and / or advance plate. The only adjustment you'll make is your idle timing. Mine runs fine at 10 BTDC.

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
Looks like zcardepot sells it with an o-ring but autozone does not. So who knows. IIRC when I was tracing a leak at the switch I fixed it with a new o-ring. But that was about 9 years ago. So I could have installed one to stop a leak if what you say is correct Zed Head, no o-ring Looks like it's one of those "mysteries". I can't find anything that says yes or no on the o-ring.

There is an o-ring on it. Worth replacing, it could be the culprit. Remove the switch from the tranny and you'll see the o-ring. I keep an assortment of o-rings for stuff like this. Hopefully that'a all it is. If not I see zcardepot has the switch as another option to suppliers Zed Head gave you. Even autozone has them for less than $20 amazingly.- NEW MEMBER - NEW CAR
