  1. I have just discovered the same issue with my Z, the leaky damper. And like you I have searched high and low with no luck. I'm running an aftermarket fuel pump so I will be removing my damper and will post results. I'm hopping to find that I don't really need it. According to the guys at MSA a few of their customers are running without one with no complaints.
  2. Wow, surprisingly I like it CO. Details please. Was it a difficult install?, etc.
  3. Jai, like said above, check the fuel pressure before trying to restart it. Because as soon as you turn the key to the start position you energize the fuel pump. So thats why everyone is telling you to check pressure before trying to restart it.
  4. He clearly said it was a 76 and was parked in 78 and never driven again.
  5. I loved the SU's when I had them on my 77 rossiz. I had no trouble with them. IIRC they were on the Z for almost 7 years when I lived in Nevada. When we came back to California I had to put the EFI back on it. Wouldn't pass "visual" part of the emissions testing with the SU's. I do miss them.
  6. Glad you are happy Jai. RB looks very nice!

Iv'e never seen that before, let alone both sides! Wonder if that was a lift point before. Are those really that weak to bend from a lift though? Crazy!

Wow Jai, you can't seem to catch a break. If it has just now started to slip you still have a little life in it. But like said above take it easier on it for now until you can get it changed.

I would definitely let the body shop handle the paint. Iv'e seen poor color fade jobs and good ones come out of body shops. Its always good to invest some time into research before deciding where to take your vehicle.

Jai, does it die right away or does it cough/choke as if it wants to keep running? Love the pic of Deanna in the drivers seat.

Ah yes, thanks. I had no cranking. Nothing at all. I don't recall now if Red Bird cranks or not after the stalling. Maybe Jai can remind me. Yes it does make for a difficult diagnosis Red Bird does. That's why I said I would be willing to send her the ECU and might as well send the ignition module as well at the same time. It is easier to try parts at this time in the game, so to speak. Be a different story if we all were close neighbors.

Chas, when my ignition control module was going bad/gone bad it would show its ugly face driving it less than 10 minutes. I want to say more like 5 minutes IIRC. I have an extra ECU and ICM (TIU) that she can try if needed. But right now with everything thats been tested it seems to lean towards the ECU. But I'm no expert. What do you guys think, ZedHead, Chas, Site, everyone that has had their hands on it as well.

Ok I just skimmed through this thread real quick again and I don't see where the fusible links were checked. Were they? Jai, when the car stalls is it after hitting a bump in the road or something similar? Any jarring of the car? The reason I ask is I had a problem earlier this year with my car wanting to cut out on me. Was driving along and when I crossed the railroad tracks it seemed like it wanted to just quit but it didn't. Long story short. I had a bad connection at one of my fusible links under the white caps on the passenger side of the engine bay. Probably not the problem but would be a good idea to check them. If they are corroded they need to be cleaned. One less thing to worry about. And if they have been checked well then...........

It is an easy process. No worries. We'll walk you through it.
  16. Definitely a good looking Z Matt!

Jai, sometimes I wonder if its ecu related. I believe another member has mentioned that as well. If you dont have the funds for a replacement or transplant of the hei unit I would be willing to ship you one of my ecu's to try. Just let me know. Maybe one of the members that have worked on RB will install it for you or I could walk you through it. Its simple.

If people will just pay attention to where they are going. And then there are the ones that drive drunk and completely destroy your car. My 260 was totaled when a drunk driver slammed into her while parked in front of my house. Had just put down a 2 part epoxy on the garage floor and it had to dry for several hours before I could park on it. But, if it wasn't for the 260 the truck would have crashed into the house. We only lived there for about a year after that. Didn't feel safe anymore. They said the drunk driver was traveling around 50 mph!

Yep, can't say enough about the 2 harness upgrades. Dave made mine custom for my 77 280. Love them. BTW, I installed them about 4 years ago.

The pot trick is for the lean drift issue the 78 has. Guess some 77's also have it. So it adds resistance which adds more fuel. Wont lean it out, according to the members using it.
  21. Yep I stand corrected, its silver. In the 3 pics I would bet money it was the 305 blue. Good eye pmg. If you ever decide to get rid of the bumpers PM me please.

A Nissan mechanic told me once that short trips are bad for these engines. Never get warm enough. These cars need to be driven.

Ah, the lower energy ignition system...forgot about that. Thanks for the refresher Greg. For some reason I keep thinking 77 instead of 76.

Why not .44 gap which is what it calls for? Does it depend on plug type? NGK calls for .44 gap BP6ES11/B6ES11
