If you look at your first picture you will see what looks like two wires that have been cut. They are in the wire harness for the EFI. Look just behind the wires that branch off towards the injectors that have yellow tape on them. Looks like cut wires. Thats what it looks like to me anyway.

Yeah but that pic is disturbing no? Aren't those dogs laying on the butcher block?

Time to do the Fastwomen yogurt cup test. You should be able to find all your vacuum leaks with it.
  5. hr369, it doesn't take much of anything to throw off the FI on these cars. The one you are referencing probably didn't run at all with those harnesses connected wrong eh?
  6. now whatever you do don't spray the top of the engine at the car wash. Yeah, worst thing you can do for sure. charliekwin, where abouts in SoCal are you? I like your HC & CO readings. Very clean! How does she run?
  7. Looks like someone adjusted your "full throttle" contact points to work a lot sooner than they are supposed to. That will make you run rich right off of the idle circuit. You should not have any contact with the full throttle points until around 75% throttle. Im not at the house or I would tell you what page to look at in the FSM. You definitely need to adjust (bend) the full throttle contacts further away from the idle contact points. Make sure to hook up your ohm meter, you are looking for continuity around 75% of full throttle. Loosening the screws and adjusting the unit as a whole is only going to give you fine tuning which you can do later. I believe the FSM says 34 degrees which is "around" 75% throttle. Even if you just get it close it will be better than it is. It is way off from stock. I had to do the same thing when I bought a used one for my 77. If need be I can shoot you a pic of mine to help you gauge things. It's really a simple adjustment. "Idle" points should break almost immediately after coming off of idle. Something like 4 degrees. You could probably sneeze on the throttle to get that to happen. Hope this helps.

So you gained a nice sized deck, cool. So am I to understand those are homemade burgers? I love burgers! Took wife on a week cruise to the Caribbean and they had this joint called "Guys Burgers" (Guy Fieri owned) on the ship and I ate there for lunch like 5 times!

site, every time I see your avatar I want a hamburger! Where were you when you snapped that pic? I envy you guys that get to do all these engine mods! I can't do S@*t when it comes to mods for my 77 280 because of CA. I should buy me a 240. I need something to tinker on.
  11. Definitely a nice look.
  12. Definitely the headlight & parking light harness upgrade. Worked nicely on my 280. You should look at all wiring and connectors. Clean and or replace questionable ones. If it is stock make sure it runs and drives right before you attempt any mods.
  13. Yeah, perfect stance. Love it!
  14. Nice!
  15. Glad you made it safe. Nice looking house! Damn, gas is only $2.34 a gal in Oklahoma! It's $4.00 here!

They look better than the 77 / 78 bumpers for sure.

Welcome to the club. If I had it to do all over again I would leave mine stock for interior and exterior. I would do light engine mods though if your state allows you to. I used to hate the large bumpers (park benches otherwise known as) but I'm starting to realize it fits the 280 design. There is going to be things you'll want to first. All the safety items. Tires, brakes, bushings, etc. Ditto on the start up. So many things to take into consideration. One major one is putting gas into a tank that could have serious amounts of rust. Good way to create a whole lot of "unnecessary" work and expense. Do what was mentioned above and search this site for the proper way to awake a sleeping beauty, so to speak. And have fun and post pics!
  20. Matt, they also carry 2 different washers for the bolts. If you get them let me know if you like them. I'm almost done with my stock hood. Going to put it on the Z in place of the cowl induction hood. I will need new bolts as well.
  21. Or you can order these from MSA Bolt, upper fender 70-78.
  22. Wont the rubber bushings keep the hood from moving around? I see you have 2 on each fender. Maybe add a couple more?
  23. I forgot to add some info. I change the oil every 3000 miles give or take a 100. Adjust valves twice a year. Have never added any additives. Sorry, should have added this info above.
  24. I have nearly 101,000 miles on my "overhaul" I did in 91'. Rings, all bearings, valve seals, 3 angle grind, timing kit. Didn't have any major work nor did I have to replace any major engine parts. I have been using Castrol 20W50 since then and have no problems or signs of excessive wear here. Here are a couple pics of my cam. My engine is stock BTW

    That's a lucky score.
