  1. Yep Redline GL4 75-90. What I have always used.

New injector is in. The one it replaced was in fact leaking. I removed the rail and energized the fuel pump to pressure up the system and observed #4 injector drip. Would drip about every 50 seconds. That's why my rail would bleed pressure off so quick. It is holding pressure now. Lets see for how long. I removed all injectors from the rail and flushed them out with brake cleaner. Installed them back on with new o-rings. Before I installed the new injector I filled the hose with brake cleaner and energized it with the 9 volt battery and got nothing. What!!! So I put one of the old o-rings on it and cinched it in the bench vise, hooked up the 9 volt battery and started tapping on it. After about a dozen taps with my screw driver she started working. Thank God. Thought I got a defective injector. BTW I have a quick release style injector clip with a short harness and alligator clips for testing injectors. Works nice. I used the brake cleaner in all the injectors. Ran it through them and then blew out the residual with compressed air. The idle seems a little smoother also, I think. Unless its my imagination. Going to try and find out why injector 4 started leaking. Wonder what could have found its way past that micro filter? I didn't get any debris out of the other injectors.

Ditto. I can understand how you feel. You've gone through a lot with this project. I would fix it (right) too.

ZedHead, I was thinking they would probably hold fuel long enough for what I was going to do. But have had to change plans again and hold off on the flow check. No worries, better to be safe than sorry. I understood what your intentions were when recommending caution using plastic cup.

All my plugs look identical to one another except for #4. Think I'm going to not worry about flow right now and replace the one injector. If there was a difference in appearance (lean or rich looking) with any other plugs then yes I would need to check flow. Getting ready to replace it now.

    Yep, we are.

    YUMMY......., where's the lime?

I wanted to do this today but can't find any "polystyrene" free plastic cups! Didn't think it was going to be that difficult to find. Or just wait til I have enough soda/water bottles saved up. Any ideas where or what I can use instead of the above? Might see what I can find for small glass jars too.

I'd be curious to know myself HaZmatt. Un-acceptable in my book. You deserve an answer. Even though it won't be a good enough answer, you still deserve to know. I've said my piece. Video my friend, video. Can't wait to hear it running.

Looking forward to the video HaZmatt!

Oh yeah thats right. I remember when you went the GM HEI route. Guess you are still happy with it. ZedHead, I was just looking around the garage to see what I have. Not enough of anything of the same size yet. But will be careful of what I use.

    Cool, thanks!

Im confused, didn't they dyno the engine before shipping to you? Why is it off then?

Hey chas I didn't get my response out soon enough. Look back at #16.

That's a good idea for sure ZedHead. So if I'm to understand, I can leave the coil plug wire in the coil but remove it from the dizzy cap and ground it out on body metal? I have jumper wires with alligator clips I can use to attach to a ground. Cliff, I have to tell you we look and feel like a couple "old" folks (no offense to older folks) walking around this morning, moaning and groaning from the joint and muscle pain. But we are already planning another one. We have missed doing this. Its been a couple years. But it is so much fun. Highly recommend everyone do it. But, I think I'm going to take it easy today and wait on the Z repair. Chas, I'm speaking of pic #3 showing the injectors tucked into the cups. I can't tell if that is white tape sealing the tops of the cups or what it is. So you must be running the ZX dizzy?

Fantastic vacuum reading! Better than mine at 18.5. Can't get mine any higher. Glad to see you finally get to enjoy the ride.

Chas, you may have just helped me change my mind and check flow of my injectors. I was thinking about it yesterday while my wife and I were hiking in the Los Padres National Forest. That was loads of fun BTW. I was just thinking that I may as well check flow also because I'm going to have the fuel rail off of the intake. If I'm that far into it I may as well check everything. On your cups, what did you use to seal the tops? Is that some sort of tape? And did you remove the cap and rotor from the dizzy so there was no spark?

Thanks for the info guys. Will let you know what I find.

Siteunseen, I should be able to "juice" the injector with a 9 volt battery. Going to put it in my bench vise, put a 12" piece of fuel hose on the injector, add compressed air (about 40 psi), and power it with a 9 volt battery. The reason for the 9 volt, I've been told a 12 volt source can fry the injector. So I'm going with that unless someone here tells me different. Hmm...if its leaking I may not even need the battery. The compressed air will probably make it leak, just as if it were on the fuel rail with the fuel rail pressure huh? Capt., I replaced all connectors and wiring for my injectors when I replaced my injectors a couple years ago. I'm with you though, I'm not comfortable with messing around the ECU pins, etc.

Yes, I am really just looking for leaks. Although if I go by my other spark plugs there shouldn't be any other injectors leaking. The other plugs are dry. And the injectors I use come from Beck/Arnely so I dont know the spray pattern on them anyway. Ok, more trouble than I thought. Just going to replace the one injector and be done with it. I replaced these injectors 2-3 years ago using the FJ707 one's that several members used with no issues. Can't wait to see the cause of the leak if I can even tell what it is. I know my fuel is clean...no rust. But am wondering why it's leaking. Quality of part? Thanks ZedHead.

So my #4 injector is leaking into the engine of my 77 280. Yesterday I removed all the plugs just to look at them and discovered #4 spark plug wet with fuel. Smelled only of fuel, not oil. I have a replacement injector on its way. Now I'm trying to figure a way to fire the injectors with the whole rail removed from the intake. Want to see spray pattern. In theory I should be able to "energize" the injectors by manipulating the AFM flap and the injectors should spray fuel correct? Or is that only through the start circuit? In other words what would be the best way to energize the injectors to spray for me so I can observe flow.
  22. Sure would like to see this Z up close! Awesome man!

Still should have never happened and EVERYTHING should have been double checked before sending it back to you a second time! I thought I was the only one with such luck. Can't wait to see the end results.
  24. Thanks for verifying that Chas. I knew adding the pot inline would only "Richen" the mixture because you are adding resistance. Just as corroded connections would do. Unless I'm missing something according to post 10, "but be careful not to run too lean", tells me he is able to adjust lean with the potentiometer. Which is what I was referring to in post 12. Not AFM adjustment.
  25. I thought you couldn't adjust it on the lean side. If you are adding resistance aren't you making it run richer?
