280Z EFI Inlet manifold ground wire
Chas, thanks for posting that for me. I knew there was supposed to be a ground there but mine is missing! Don't know why but it is completely gone! I will make one. I started looking at everything after I found that my fuel pump was wired outside of the fuel pump circuit and this is one of the things I found....no ground from engine to chassis. Is it a big deal or not? Not sure but if Nissan had one in place I'm going to make sure it is there now.

Looks really good! Mind me asking what it set you back? We should get together sometime and swap Z stories over a cup of coffee or something. Im just in Ventura. Could meet halfway....

ZFuel
Lenny, that is such excellent news! I was getting frustrated today with my 77 and am about to give up on her and sell her! I am so disappointed with it right now. It fluctuates between lean and rich too much and has been like this for almost 2 years. I wouldn't care so much but here in CA it has become a PITA regarding emissions requirements. So you just reminded me that there is hope after all, thanks!

Runs rich and high idle after restart
Mike, looks as if the altitude switch was for one year only. Weird. Wonder what was used in 75, 76, & 78? Why only 77? Too many questions. I was hoping this was leading to something with your car. Definitely weird stuff Zed Head! Why only in CA models for one thing?

Runs rich and high idle after restart
Mike, I went out to look at mine. I looked for the shape like the diagram in EF-15 shows. It is hard to find. Look for a brass colored device with wires coming directly from one end. There are 2 wires(one blue and one blk) coming from it (altitude switch) to a connector and from that there are 2 wires which are now both blk that follow the ECU harness towards the firewall, not to the ECU. I will have to investigate this some more now. I thought they went directly to the ecu. Have to look at my over sized wiring diagram.

So I guess the next thing would be to find out if you are supposed to have one. I also wonder if there is a difference in the ECU's. In other words, are there ECU's with and without the pins for the altitude switch? Mine is on page EF-15.

regarding post #60.....did you find it?

mjr, my altitude switch is located above the left knee in the dash. It's above the EFI relay in that area. I'm assuming that it is that way on any of the model years that came with it.

Steering Rack Disassembly and Refurb
Haha! yes they are close...hour drive and in the same area as Motorsport Auto! I better just order online. Would be hard to not swing by MSA and then harder to not walk out with anything from MSA! I will probably call EMPI direct for a local supplier. Thanks for the info Capt.

Runs rich and high idle after restart
Oh wow, my mistake Mike. Don't know why I thought it was a 77.

Steering Rack Disassembly and Refurb
Capt, who did you buy them from? I assume you went through a local parts supplier?

Fastwomen, to bad your lean 78 wouldn't work in my rich running 77! Sorry Mike didn't mean to jack your thread. However, what is the production date of your 77? Wonder if there is something there we don't realize. Mine is a 05/77. I have a rich running condition I have been tracing for a couple of years.

Anyone have...
I'll be waiting to hear back from you. thanks.

Anyone have...
...the 2 gauges and clock in the center of the dash? It's a 77 280 and I'm looking for these. Doesn't matter if the clock is working or not. Late 76 to late 78 gauges will work. Iv'e just started my search and usually I see them all over the place and now that I need a set I can't find any worth a damn. Thanks.

75 280Z Restoration 2.5 Years
Siteunseen, it's my understanding that Dave's harness(s) are better. I have both of them and am very happy. You are correct, it does pull power from the battery instead of the switch. Mark, thanks for the info. Not sure what I'm going to use yet. I like the idea of being able to reach in and replace the bulb instead of having to replace the whole headlight. I need to research this some more.

Steering Rack Disassembly and Refurb
You know I was going to say subaru too but a friend of mine recently replaced his rack billows on his 350Z and they look close to the 280Z ones.

Steering Rack Disassembly and Refurb
That's good info Capt. I wonder how mine looks. If mine is the same it could explain the slight vibration I'm getting through the steering wheel. I have tried everything else but the rack bushings. So maybe I will take mine out soon. Who supplied the bushings?
