I agree Dave.

Transmission Noise
Good deal. Mine is still quiet after re-installing my OE knob.

Transmission Noise
I had a similar issue a few months ago. Was convinced to remove my shifter knob and I'm glad I did. It was the culprit. Hope its that easy for you now that you have done all that chasing.

1977 280Z intake exhaust gasket
I've used the one from MSA 3 times on 3 different Z's and have had good luck with them. Maybe I got lucky?

280ZX FPR Wows
Chiefmd, I can't believe how much these things have gone up in price! Personally if what rockauto has is correct, Bosch, I would get it. JMO.

Thats the 75-77 one.

280ZX FPR Wows
Right. When you mentioned your "receipt" I figured it was in reference to your 77, not his 78. Sure would like to do the fuel rail update but can't. I would fail the "visual" part of the emission inspection here.

280ZX FPR Wows
The 75-77 is a different one from the 78-83 one.

280ZX FPR Wows

Rockauto has them for $96. (Bosch) according to them. MSA $125. Zcardepot $159.00 Not sure why the wide range in prices.

Putting SU Carbs on L28 EFI
I ran SU's on my 77 for a few years, when I was in Las Vegas, and didn't have any problems with the stock linkage or its location. The plan was to do what you did Philip but never got around to it. But then had to remove them when I came back to CA.

I got mine back, only because I kept asking for it back.

This is what happens when you don't take care of the rust
A cartoon from back in the day. Watch an episode and you'll see what I mean. You're not that young that you don't know who the Flintstones are, are you?

This is what happens when you don't take care of the rust
Ya-ba-da-ba-dooooo.... You could just Flintstone it. That's ugly!

New 280Z Owner
Great find! So glad you are considering taking it to original. And she looks nice and straight which is a plus. It also has the typical rust places so there is a lot of good repair info here. Good luck and keep us updated.

Misfiring while cruising
Nobody said anything about backfire. You need to read it again.
-
Misfiring while cruising
Connect your timing light up like you normally would but instead of putting the inductive pickup on cylinder number one spark plug wire put it on the ones in question. Watch for uneven flashing. This will tell you which cylinder(s) are misfiring. But make sure the inductive pickup is on the plug wire tight.

Misfiring while cruising
Now there's something I forgot about. You can do the same Alex.... with a timing light if you have. Check each wire that way. It'll show you a misfire if you have one.

Removing Clock Arms
I probably just, between my thumb and forefinger, "wiggled" it back and forth slightly til it broke lose. I think that's how I did it, thinking about it some more.

Removing Clock Arms
IIRC the clock was the most difficult. Go slow! But I can't remember how I did it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help
