The gap you have sounds normal. You may just need the seal that attaches to the front of the quarter window frame to fill in the gap. Chloe has them for my '75z for about $35.00. What's happening to mine is the front quarter window frame sticks out so far that even without the front seal there it's interfering with the back of the door's window frame to the point where I have to slam or push the door closed to shut it.

Has anyone replaced the quarter window seals? My window was broken and replaced by an autoglass repairman a few years ago. He evidently didn't fit it completely into the body because the windows' front frame has eventually worked its way out to the point that I have a difficult time closing my drivers' door. So I'm looking at replacing the old and cracked rubber seals that seal the glass to the frame, hold the frame to the body, and installing the rubber piece that seals the front edge of the frame to the back edge of the door window frame. If anyone would like to share their experience with this situation I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance! :classic:

It's great to have another "Rob" in the club. I'm sure you'll enjoy the people and topics here. They're a great bunch with alot of knowledge about Z cars as well as an abundance of patience. Is this your first Z car? It's quite a looker! More pics please. :cross-eye
  6. I had the exact same thing happen to me, with three starters in a row. It turned out that the parts store I bought the first starter from (the store replaced the other two under warranty) gave me the wrong starter. It turned out they were giving me a starter for a Datsun 4 cylinder engine! After I pointed out the difference (starter motor length) they gave me the correct unit and I've had no problems since. I'll try to get a measurement if you want it. Good luck!:classic:
  7. Ya...but can it do 'Pong'? Uh oh, I think I just dated myself.....

I went to check the wheels out last night. On a scale 1-10 they're a 9 in the structural catagory and a 3 in the appearance catagory. They have a couple of nicks in them and would require days of cleanup to make them usable. They're definately NOT worth the $300 USD he wanted for them! It's too bad because I really need to get tires onto wheels that can be balanced. Thanks for all your help, Rob

I have an opportunity to buy a set of 15" 280ZX Turbo swaztika wheels that are in fair shape and there's no curb rash on them. I haven't seen them yet but they probably only need polishing up a bit to make them look nice. The set will include lug nuts and caps. My question is, what do you guys (and gals) think there are worth? They are located close to me so there isn't an issue with shipping. Thanks for whatever advice you may have. Rob
  10. Ya, and you don't want to get a 'charge' from it either!

Are you wearing your seatbelt? I recall (barely) that my 78 Z had a fasten seatbelt warning buzzer, but I thought it activated as soon as I started the engine. Hope this helps!
  14. Thanks ZmeFly. I checked out a few subjects and found them to be well done. It'll be very handy for us 'visual' types. Thanks for the lead & link!

Hi Guys & Gals. I'm on the lookout for a set of these wheels in 15x7 size for my 280Z. I'd like to find them the same color as the picture or with black center in excellent condition. I'd also be interested in a set of 5 spoke wheels like the Revolutions. Since I live in Ventura, Ca., it would especially cool if they are nearby so I could check them out in person. I've attached pics to help identify what I'm looking for. If the wheels have good usable tires on them, we could talk about them in the deal too. Thanks for all your help, Rob

echocluster MotorSport Auto (MSA) has them. You have a choice between leather, black or chrome. They are carried under accessories/interior/miscellaneous in the 'Z Store'. Here's thier web address: http://www.motorsportauto.com/

I have the same exact louvers for my Z and they really help to keep the car cool and protect the rear carpet from the sun. Also I prefer the 'rounded' style of these over the 'hard edge' style for the early Z's. Mine are off the car right now as I'm in the process of fixing some rust spots. There is rust under where the hinges were at the top. I haven't tried it yet, but I've thought about POR-15 the small area under the hinges and making thin rubber gaskets the same size as the hinges to be installed under them to keep them from rubbing the topcoat. I'd do the same for the spring-bolt latches. I'd also use stainless steel sheet metal screws instead of galvanized to prevent rust. You didn't say what shape your new louvers are in. If they're well used, you might want to refurbish them by taking them apart, clean and paint, re-rivet (with aluminum rivets), and install new rubber edging on the top, sides, and on the spline (the center piece) where the louvers rest on the hatch and glass.
