    Got link?????
  2. Speedy, you could always cover the indicator light with a small piece of black electrical tape! Ya know, like what people do to VCR clocks that keep flashing?
  3. I don't mean to make light of your experience Walter, but I had to laugh at that one. It reminds me of when my heater core sprung a leak and turned my Z into a steamy sauna!

I don't think you were accusing me of starting anything, and I don't think I flamed anyone. I was just saying that I should make inquiries clear and to the point, and to be mindful of our Z brothers and sisters that live outside the USA. But, thanks for the concern Ben. And, by the way, I don't need no stinking therapy.

I'm claiming #2. Thank you for the well written post Ben. If there's one thing I learned from the thread I started, it's that I'd better be real careful about how I phrase a statement, and to keep all members in mind when comprising it. I'll be the first one to admit that sometimes I have terminal tunnel-vision :stupid: and that I need to work on that. I would like to say that I apologize for anything I may have done to cause the thread I started to go south.

Hi George My '75 Z came from a So. California dealer with A/C and didn't have a sticker anywhere indicating an aftermarket installer. Also, the So. California dealerships didn't normally add their dealer sticker/emblems to the cars they sold at that time as did dealers in other parts of the USA, which might explain the installers sticker on your car as being a common practice in your region. The normal dealership practice here was ( and still is ) to install license plate frames with their names cast in them. [Off topic] By the way, how long have you lived in Melboune, Fl. and have you ever been to Titusville? I lived in Titusville from '64 to '71. I tried to PM & email you from the club here without success. If you would like to chat about "the old times" please feel free to contact me through the site here.
  7. Well...welcome to the club! I'm not sure what all a Datsun distribution/port manager did, but I would imagine you have some first hand inside knowledge of these cars that very few of us have and that, I'm sure, would be very much appreciated here. I checked out the 240z you are contemplating on buying at your site. From what I can tell it appears to be in pretty good shape. One word of advice. If you are thinking of buying this car for yourself, dig around this site for information on rust issues and where to look for it. BTW, I like colors of the car. My first Z, a '78 280z, had the same color scheme. :cheeky:
  8. Hi Jim, It's not unreasonable to expect to get over 200k miles form a well maintained L series engine. I accumulated 205,000 on my '75 280z before the head gasket gave way. And at that time, the engine still ran strong and didn't burn or leak oil. I've also seen well maintained 240z engines with over 200k miles being rebuilt merely because they were getting a bit tired, and all they were getting was rings and bearings, a valve job, and honing of the cylinders. Just out of curiousity, it this your own personal car or is it for a client? If it's for the latter, he/she would be well served to follow your lead in inquiring about Z cars here at this club site. This place is a gold mine of information concerning the 240/260/280z line of cars.

I prefer whichever brand my mechanic uses! If any of them break, become lost or stolen, or just plain wear out, I wouldn't even notice! In all seriousness, I have Craftsman tools in a Craftsman benchtop toolbox, as well as various hardware store and auto parts stuff. My needs at this time don't require a wide variety of tools so my collection is rather limited (combo wrenches, screwdriver assortment, various adjustable wreches, etc.). Although, if I had unlimited funds, I'd just buy my Z mechanics shop!!

I'm not able to check the sticker on my Z until Saturday. It's in California and I'm in Las Vegas during the week. I'll try calling a friend of mine today who has worked on Z's since 1970 to find out. P.S. I may have had a blonde moment in my original post. I was thinking of the door plate. :stupid:

Look up a counterfeiter! You might try taking it to a small machine shop or woodworking shop. I'd think there are a bunch of furniture makers in your area. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, here's a punch set you might want to check this out. http://www.growinglifestyle.com/us/article/s0/a253565.html
  16. This method is akin to cleaning a semi-automatic shotgun with a shell in the chamber...and three in the tube. :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: PLEASE DON'T USE THIS METHOD!

It looks like half of your work is done, meaning the disassembly. By the way, I don't believe I've ever seen a red center horn button before. Is that original? Thanks for the pics, Rob

It never ceases to amaze me how utterly moronic jury members can be. I've served on four cases myself, although none like these, and I would have been ejected off these cases in short order! I have NO patience with people that try to justify the "entitlement" mentality of some of these so called victims. Idiots. OK, I'm done...

A good opinion column that brought to light some things I didn't know about before. Excellent writer also. Thank you Greyghost.

I feel the "victimization", at whatever level it is occurring, is due to region origination, not due to spiritual beliefs. If little green men blow up the schoolyard, you question little green men. Yes, they are capable, but not free to govern themselves. Why do you think Saddam received 100% of the votes in the last vote Iraq. It was a case of “vote for me or I’ll have your hand removed”. Period. No one is stuffing democracy down their throats. As far as I can tell, the interim leaders are wanting a democratic system for their country because, with all its flaws, it’s the best system devised so far. And these leaders are dodging bullets to see democracy succeed there, and those bullets aren’t coming from the average person there. They are from people who want to regain control of that country and people around that region who don’t want Iraq transformed and consequently influencing the countries they come from. Now, if you have a better system of government, please let us know about it. There’s always room for improvement in all things. You can’t be everybody’s friend all of the time or please them all either. It’s a shame that it takes something like this to find out who our friends are. The ones who showed up confirmed their friendship; the ones who didn’t confirmed their convictions. And most of the main players who were bashing the US had good reason too. They were getting a little action on the side and we were interfering. I don’t necessarily think we’re right and they’re wrong. It’s not black and white. It’s a matter of drawing the line at a certain point. And that point came after 17 UN sanction violations. If you were a convict released on probation, how many violations of your probation do you think you’d get away with?

I’m not freaked out at all by your choice of daycare provider. I think you chose a family that you feel will take very good care of your most precious possession, and I applaud you for being open minded enough to give them the chance to become acquainted with you as a person and American, and support them. I’m sure all people in their position communicate with family and friends back home as to how the average Joe treats them here. In my opinion you are being the perfect host/representative. I myself work daily with people from that region and find them honest, friendly, gracious, and devoted people, but thankful they can live in a country where they can live without fear of imprisonment or death for speaking their mind in public. After all, they certainly don’t want to wind up in 280z’s photo journal, now do they? I think the people trying to influence him have misled 280z. They haven’t informed him that this issue over in the Middle East isn’t about religion, it’s about fanatical power and control over an area of the world that is capable of financing an effort to impose their beliefs and customs anywhere they please, especially here. They certainly aren’t going to convince us to embrace their jihad willingly. I’m under the impression that we Americans kind of like things the way they are here now, even with the many shortcomings. I would think that if 280z were over there and spoke the way he is allowed to here, there would be nothing left of him to photograph. But there is hope for him. I had very similar emotions concerning the Viet Nam war and, with age and experience, have come to the realization that because a man, or a group of men make mistakes, it doesn’t make them evil, no matter where there misinformation comes from. It makes them human. What matters is thier character and ethics. OK, I'll get down off my soap box now.

ALL of the military people serving in Iraq VOLUNTEERED (To perform or offer to perform a service of one's own free will.) and from what I've seen and heard, the majority of them are proud of their service and their purpose for being there. They DESERVE our unrelenting support!
  23. I feel my vote is so important that I've voted SEVERAL times! In all seriousness, I have voted in every election since I was of legal voting age. GET OUT THERE and have your say!
  24. Have you checked the hoses for holes and/or cracks? Try feeling around both of the large corrogated hoses that are attached to the air flow meter and the throttle body. Also, there should be a smaller hose, about 1" in diameter, under the intake manifold that runs from the manifold forward to (I believe) the throttle body. This smaller hose probably has a foil covering on it that makes a person think it could be a metal tube. I found a hole in this one that caused problems. I know your Z is a later model than my '75 280, but I would think the intake system hoses would be basically the same (no need to change what works well!) Hope this helps, Rob
  25. Hi Daniel. I'm getting about 18 miles to the gallon in city driving and 24 miles to the gallon on the highway. I'm driving a stock '75 280z with an '81 5 speed trany.
