He's the owner of the car we're talking about in this thread. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18120&page=1&pp=5
  2. Huh? Are the early high beam switches that much different? My '75 and previous '78 worked a bit differently. UP= right turn DOWN= left turn PULL BACK AND RELEASE= high beams on PULL BACK AND RELEASE AGAIN= high beams off
  3. Yup.......

The plastic fill around the "Z" on the emblem on my '75 280z was red. It has since faded to almost white.
  5. The easiest part of replacing my ball joints was removing them with what you have there. The best part is you get to wack on something with a hammer and are actually doing a job correctly!

Well said Rick. Here's a link to just one example of what Rick is saying:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12988&highlight=Paul+Newman

No, I'm with SBC/Yahoo DSL. And so is the second PC I used to try to access zhome. I'm not using XP's firewall nor SBC's protection software, but instead I'm using Norton Internet Security's, and it isn't setup to block any specific sites at this time and it isn't listing zhome as a blocked site on it's own either. Weird. I hope we can resolve this. :disappoin
  8. I do believe you're right. Good catch! Also, aren't the eight (?) rivets that attach the hatch panel smaller as well?
  9. That's what the rivet in the photo is, and it's black! It's also THE original, "factory" rivet that was installed at the factory in May of 1975 (never been removed).
  10. So...I take it I had the correct rivets.
  11. On my '75 280z...rivets
  12. rivets.....

What do these guys think of your wife or girlfriend?

Heck Gav, the hole site appears to be down. I've tried to access it from two different pc's via DSL (no time-outs) without success.
  15. If you're so inclined, here's a good tech article on adjusting your valves yourself. It is actually simple to do using this method. Here's the place:http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=1803105&uid=786489 P.S. You've done a very nice job there!

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an urgent problem with one of the main computers, dialed the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper. "Hello." "Is your daddy home?" he asked. "Yes," whispered the small voice. "May I talk with him?" The child whispered, "No." Surprised, and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there? "Yes." "May I talk with her?" Again the small voice whispered, "No." Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, "Is anybody else there?" "Yes," whispered the child, "a policeman." Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, "May I speak with the policeman?" "No, he's busy", whispered the child. "Busy doing what?" "Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman," came the whispered answer. Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the earpiece on the phone the boss asked, "What is that noise?" "A hello-copper" answered the whispering voice. "What is going on there?" asked the boss, now truly alarmed. In an awed whispering voice the child answered, "The search team just landed the hello-copper." Alarmed, concerned, and even more then just little frustrated the boss asked, "What are they searching for?" Still whispering, the young voice replied along with a muffled giggle: "ME."

According to http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/ neither of us are right The early five speeds for the US came out in '77. And none of the five speeds have the same gear ratios as any of the four speeds, althought the early ('77-'78) are the closest. To be honest with you, I didn't notice a difference between the two in my Z. Now, if I were racing the car on road courses, I would think I would notice right away.

This is the transmission I put in my '75 280z. It fit right in with no modifications or problems. The first four gear ratios are identical to the stock four speed and fifth gear is 1: 0.745. This knocks down the rpm's from fourth gear by about 25% giving much better gas mileage while still providing good acceleration in fifth. And if I'm correct, I believe this series of transmission is a bit more durable than the previous versions.

McMaster carries them in black or white plastic. The only other concern is the size.
  22. GunnerRob posted a post in a topic in Interior
According to McMaster-Carr the plastic washers act as a finishing and cushioning washer. That center fastener location of the panel is at a weak point and tends to crack/break over time. I've taken them out, cleaned them really well, and superglued steel rods to the inside at the point beside where the screw goes through it to brace it up.

Here's a picture of the washer. I found this on McMasetr-Carr, but the smallest they offer is for a #6 screw and it's 7/16" in diameter. But, at least we now know what to look for.

  25. No. It was a completely stock 1978 280z. I worked at the time with a guy who had a '70 240z with the 'spook' chin spoiler and he told me he had a similar experience after he took the spook off. He said he was going to put it back on soon!
