My 71 mfg. 3/71 also had cut pile carpet
  2. the slots on my 71 have "Shelby" cast into the inside rim of the wheel, that should make it fairly easy to id them if you are looking for Shelby's

I painted mine about 20yrs ago and it is still on. I used something called Trim Black, it think it is still available. It is a self etching paint and covered well and has never peeled. Unfortunatley, I would like to get it off now and put the car back closer to its original appearance.

My Z started showing the exhaust issue back in about 73, so I didn't think it was the seals on a 2 yr old car. Eventually, someone convinced me to have an extension made which bends to the side and directs the exhaust into the air flow along the side of the car. It has worked ever since. The car has the original exhaust except for the rear muffler. I am thinking of getting a new extension made which will look a little better than the old one.

I painted mine black about 20 yrs ago and it is still holding up. I used something called Trim Black but I don't know who made it. maybe it is one of the SEM products. It was supposed to be self etching. I got it at an autobody paint supplier store.
  7. Question on the carpeting. On my 71 there was loop cut pile from the factory. I've had had the car since 72. When did Nissan start using loop pile for the carpets?

About 30yrs ago I had the pipe turned to the side with a bend and eliminated all the fume problems. In addition, it also eliminated the etching on the bumper and tail light. I still have it there. At the time I was told the same thing about the gaskets, but felt that the car wasn't that old to need that kind of work. There is one car at the show in Daytona who did the same thing but it looks better than mine, now I will have to change it having seen a better execution.

Just drove my 71, which I have ahd since 72 from WI to my home in FL. took me about 20 hours with only one hitch when a coil lead popped off in Indy.
  10. I am willing to part with the spare but won't be able to confirm anything until I get back to the car around the end of April if everything goes as planned. I am in the Crystal River area of FL and do get down to Sarasota/Bradenton fairly often to go sailing.
  11. I would be willing to part with the spare since I would prefer something more up to date. The car is in WI, and I am in Fl. I am planning to drive it down here in May. I can give you more information about that when I get it down here. I probably will mount a new spare for the trip, as well as new tires since the ones on the car are up in age. I don't plan to do a restoration or show the car. It's a nice rust free, with an uncracked dash and so forth. I'm hoping to get more use out of it since I can keep it at home and not have to put it up for the winter.
  12. My '71, which I have had for the last 35 yrs has a Bridgestone 175 as the original spare still in the car. Unfortunately, it does not hold air for long. It has been on the car one time for about 35 miles.
