East African Safari Rally 2005
I know stewart wilkins motorsport prepared the 2003 winning Z, and he was working very hard on another Z for this year just a few months ago. Not sure if its the same driver however. Everything on the car that I saw was built tonka tough. mmm.. proflex

Late L24 Oil Pan vs L28 Pil Pan
does the AZC have the longer pickup (L24) or the shorter one? Was just about to get one for my L24!

Australian Hillclimb Champs
nice! definitely looks like an interesting track. Almost as though someone has decided to make a track around the backyard. Always dreamed of doing something like that.

Umm Hi Hi
I have the tokicos in my car too with 250 and 300 pound spring rates.22 front sway, 18 rear. rosejointed front end, camber plates and the ride is pretty good on 3,4 and absolutely terrible on 5. I have the recaros as well, and you feel everything much more than in the stock seats.

240z finally registered!
Sorry Joseph didn't see your post until just then. The year is 1972, and the car came with only one door mirror. car now has around 118kw@the wheels with a bit more fiddling. pic with the front flares on.

Umm Hi Hi
Just got my Z back a few weeks ago. Have been taking it out every few days or so. Will be heading up the old road (old pacific highway sydney)next week sometime (monday/tuesday midnight)if anyone was interested.

the floor mounts are still intact, but the sliders from the standard seats were modified. I am a smidge under 6 ft and I can still fit a helmet in so it's good for now.

a tip for watanabe purchasers- get the proper wheelnuts for them! will save a lot of hassle and expense. I eventually had to use some special rally nuts with independent concave surfaces and get new studs installed. Another pleasant surprise was in terms of engine power. Thanks to the fandangled carb tuning machine at SWR, I jumped from 40hp@the wheels(don't ask) to a peak of 125kw@the wheels. It was a bit of a timebomb at those settings so we detuned it to 108kw@wheels due to idle and leaning out concerns. For a very mild L24 on twin SU's I was pretty happy. Most of the $$ has been poured into unseen suspension items thus far, so won't be able to give a review on those until the next wakefield day.

seats, roll cage in. stewart wilkins made the cage and mounts. Top bloke and great at finding a way that works to your needs, even if it initially seems impossible. 2jzgte: plain silly buggers

ZG Flares
I got some 2nd hand from japan- spirit garage. n.b.not all zg flares are equal even when from japan. The ones I have seem to have similar fitment issues to the ones from MSA in america. They will work, but with a bit of fiddling. There are some much more expensive flares I have seen for sale in japan, which i'm assuming have a better fitment. I haven't seen any 'proper' looking zg flares for sale from an australian vendor.

I have some zg flares sitting on the floor now, but havent had the time to cut/roll the guards and get some fasteners to bolt them on! I'd imagine once I do attach them, the wheels will sit a fair way in underneath. I was expecting a rough ride [replaced all bushings, rose jointed front end, camber plates, and harder springs] but it actually isn't too bad. I can't actually hear any squeaks or rattles since the exhaust is so loud.

after 2-3 years of burning money, the car is road legal (barely..) As you can see, still needs a hell of a lot of work before it's ready for the track but I think it scrubbed up ok with the 'poo brown' watanabes. It's running too low at the moment, with maxed out camber to fit the wheels in. Will go back to something a bit more sensible once the flares go on. But here's proof you can fit a 8.5J -6 offset wheel under stock guards! (I wouldn't recommend it though). I am running 225/50/15 tyres all round. Suspension consists of camber plates on all four, shortened struts and coilovers, adjustable front control arms.

So what does your Z sound like!?
I want to be like Ron! triple thumbs up for that clip...

any advice on Watanabe colour code?
I'm in the process of colour matching my wheels at the moment[front and back are different], and have been having a hard time trying to find the exact colour and finish I want. Basically I want a factory colour 'magnet' 'watanabe - magnet' or whatever the colour is on ericB's wheels http://www.davescholz.com/public/webgallery/pages/themoneyshot.html The above samples seem to be a satiny, matt finish with a very dark bronze. The current colour of my wat's at the moment are an interesting dark grey/bronze but I believe they have been painted over by previous owners. I can either go for sandblasting and powder coating, or just painting. The closest powdercoating colour I can match is: dulux 59003- metropolos bronze pearl [matt] if anyone needs it for future reference. Cheers

Whats a 5/71 Body Shell Worth?
I would say it is worth above $1000. *p.s. that wouldnt happen to be the shell that nixcars sold a few years ago on here? I'd buy it myself if I had garage space.

FYI Fairlady Z video
Fyi, I got my copy off ebay, and it was delivered from america! I havent seen it on there lately though. It is an ok video. Great photography and imagery as usual from the best motoring team, but not too much driving action. Whilst it isn't as stale as the "visual museum" series I have (understandably, because it is meant to be a visual museum), there is a lot of sitting next to the cars and talking. Something which would be great if I understood Japanese! In any case, beggars can't be losers, and compared to the other Japanese based FairladyZ videos I have , this one is worth getting! *I'm still looking for that "racing skylines" dvd from the same series!

1972 Skyline GT exhaust pics
Fujitsubo still make extractors and exhaust systems for both the old skylines and zeds. They look very nice indeed! now all we need is a sound clip! *in the meantime do you have a written description of the sound Jim? any likes/dislikes?

EOI watanabe 15x8.5"
Well, I finally found someone to bid for me 2 hours before the end of the auction. Alas, by the time I plugged in my maximum bid the price had skyrocketed well over my limit. Just out of interest, they were a set of 16 x 8.5, 16 x 9.5 watanabes with tyres. They eventually sold for 141,000 yen- which is roughly 1800 AUS?[roughly double that figure for a landed cost in australia] I also noticed that the Kobe Seiko 4 spoke remake wheels with huge dish are for sale recently. starting price is 500,000 yen for a pair!! So for the moment my wat's arent for sale anymore. If something piques my interest again, i shall let you know Deus Ex. thanks. ----------- Jim, I'm going to try and make it down to goulburn (don't think my Z will be road ready by then), any excuse is good enough to go to wakefield.

EOI watanabe 15x8.5"
I think they did come off a C10 skyline now that you mention it. Just out of interest Jim, how did your skyline handle on the stretched 225's at the track. These are a pics of the rims when they were in japan. As far as the sale of my wheels is going, not looking good at all. Can't find anyone to act as a middleman for the auction and there is one day left.

EOI watanabe 15x8.5"
slight problem. the blokes i normally use to get stuff from yahoo auctions dont do it anymore.. trying to find someone else before the auction ends! as far as fitment is concerned, I have both coilovers and zg flares. Probably not recommended on a normal Z, but i guess this would also depend on your tyre choice. the most common fitment i see for the zg flares is 8.5j front with -6 offset and 9.5j rears with -18 or so.

EOI watanabe 15x8.5"
I know this probably should go in the classifieds area, but my excuse is i'm not officially selling up yet. I have a set of -6 offset 15x8.5j watanabe (i think the official colour is magnet?) that I am thinking of selling. 4x114.3 stud pattern. No tyres. Depending on whether I win the auction on my new 16 inchers id like to sell either a pair or the whole set. I'll know for sure whether i need to sell in 5 days. I have some pics in some previous threads on this forum of the exact wheels I won, but none on this current computer. Can upload these in the next few days. The wheels themselves are not the dished watanabes, but have larger and deeper spokes allowing greater caliper clearance. price: $800/pair [i payed $1718 in total for the 4] ---- Whilst I am here: I'm looking for the following items for my '71 240z. door cards- any condition heater control panel- namely the evil looking metal wire thing which opens and closes the ducts an intact choke cable for the SU carbs with or without the knob and end fitting. cheers, vincent found some bad pictures of the rims: http://acw.moliu.org/albums/Z/IMG_1959.sized.jpg
