R390 GT1 road car
Always wondered what happened to the road version of these cars. I wonder if Toyota made a similar model for their stunning Gt-one.

try stewart wilkins motorsport in Sydney. He has a website somewhere but I can't remember the damn link. He sells headers for around $495.

mild cam, triple webers
I checked out the carbs on that ebay site and they are indeed an absolute steal.. only sticking point is they are weber DCOM's as opposed to the more popular dcoe. Ive had a quick gander on google about the various differences and information is scant and vague at best. Anyone had experience with these DCOM carbs? They are supposed to be more advanced than the dcoe ones.

kings springs--anyone used them?
i rang kmac the other day about their adjustable strut tops for Z cars and they said they didnt have any at the moment but can make them up within the week. cost: 380 for front pair. camber adjustment from 2 degrees to 4 degrees (although he sounded pretty unsure about this). this is for the polyurethane ones and they can also make spherical bearing top mounts for something like 290 bucks (although again, the bloke didnt sound like he knew what he was talking about) In any case, from what i have read and seen about the kmac strut tops.. they seem rather badly made and weak. I would rather spend a bit more and get a well made custom set. Wakefield: A friend timed one of my laps from the hill at 1:20 in a dead stock new corolla station wagon heheh. this was with a dodgy mobile phone stopwatch and unneccessary use of the handbrake on the last hairpin.. so I reckon 1:19's are a definite possibility. Now if i could only get the Z finished in time... My aim is to eventually get the 240z under 1:10. On a track like wakefield it focuses more on handling than power.. so hopefully I wont need a mega powerful engine. If an improved production 13b bridgeport rx7 can get 1:08 on slicks then there is hope for the Z yet!

hmm, did you end up having to revalve the koni's.. I read somewhere that the majority of koni yellows have a recommended spring rate of up to 450 pounds. I didnt realise you could get adjustable koni red's? what model numbers are these and are they made specifically for the Z? It's quite tough deciding how soft is too soft as everyone has different opinions on ride comfort etc.. I think i may go somewhere in the middle of the line and opt for a 3XX lb spring rate. --- As an aside I went to wakefield today to blow out the cobwebs on my daily driver.. was a brilliant day and Ive now developed a longing for 1970's 911 porsches. They are built like a bloody bankvault.

brett240 what sort of shocks are you running for those spring rates? I am in the midst of deciding on the specs of my suspension, and the blokes from the states recommended 200lb front and 225lb rears. I'll be using adjustable koni yellows (mk1 golf and celica gt4) and sectioning the struts. Some real world experience from a fellow ozzie would of course be very helpful! My car will mainly be used for hillclimbs/wakefield etc with the occasional weekend blasts through the mountains- so ride comfort is not on my high list of priorities- However I would still like a compliant ride that is able to absorb bumps at speed without sending the car airborn.

Buying triples...
on the wolfcreek racing classifieds site (which i have long drooled over..) The hks long runner manifold costs US$350. A cannon one goes for similar money. Id be interested to know what the exact differences are between the two apart from brand name.

where did you get your triples from and what size, specs are they? I have been looking for ages for a decent set of triples to no avail.. Your results are all the more convincing for me since I have an almost identical setup to what you describe- my L24 is stroked to 2.8 though. **hang on just reread your post properly and realised you bought the setup from america. Was that 1300 for EVERYTHING? fitted and tuned? thats actually not a bad price considering each individual carb costs about 700 bucks bare.

Rust Replacement Parts
can you pm me a price for the following: * frp hood, hatch and fenders (and just out of interest the carbon fibre ones as well). If the hatch comes with acrylic window that would be even better . * any pics of your flares? are they the zg style? What are the individual weights of the hood, hatch and fenders? cheers

Supra Gearbox - How Strong?
depends which supra box you are talking about. No personal experience with them, but many high power supras (talking 600hp+) keep the stock r154 box and they are all quite up to the task. Even the earlier generation supra trannies are quite strong. Good luck finding one for cheap though. have a search on performanceforums.com about r154 boxes... plenty of info there.

JIC Magic ???
never realised jic magic made stuff for s30 Z's.. but a few friends have their coilovers on their silvias etc. Quality is great, and without actually driving their cars the first impressions from the owners are happy ones. I believe they are a fairly popular brand in japan and probably comparable to Tein etc depending on which model coilover you get. Couldnt find any stuff on their site in relation to 240z gear... I would be quite interested in JIC since I know someone who is a JIC dealer over here..

wakefield yesterday
great! cant wait for the photos. I would have attended yesterday if it werent for exams in the next two weeks. Will definitely be at the next meet! Is there an official timesheet on the net somewhere of yesterday (natsoft? etc) 1:15 is indeed very impressive . what sort of setup is he running.

wakefield yesterday
Anyone from here make it to the supersprint round at wakefield yesterday organised by the Sydney Z club, and mx5 club? I heard it was a tad chilly out there .

Nissan 4.5 lt V8
Ive heard figures bandied around for the 1uzfe (lexus v8) of 179kg. Not sure what this weight includes. There is a bloke in Oz, in the midst of doing a GTO - Z replica using the lexus v8, he sent me heaps of juicy pics and details. Apparently it fits like a glove- even one of the radiator hoses line up. *although looking at the pictures, not sure the headers would look like an expensive custom job. If anyone is interested in this conversion, give me a yell and I'll pass on the details.

OT: What car next??
hehe. no worries. speaking of confusion,i made a mistake on the sprinters laptime: it didnt do a laptime of 1:02 (which is probably a lap record by about 20 seconds). It was more like 2:02.

OT: What car next??
back on topic, have you considered one of the series 4 or 5 rx7 turbo's? Some of them occasionally dip below 10 grand- although finding a good one is quite hard. We used to have an aussie delivered one way back when they were released, and it was a great car at the time.
-
OT: What car next??
I agree its probably not the car that Zspeed is looking for. But i was disagreeing with your point that "they are not special unless you throw a bucket of money at them".

OT: What car next??
Id politely like to beg to differ on this suggestion. Imho after driving a few mild examples and seeing them in action at wakefield, it doesnt take much to have a lot of fun in these cars. Sure it will never be a super fast car in a straight line unless you invest a lot of money, however the driving experience lies in the fact it is extremely adjustable and agile. My friends sprinter didnt have any real brand name stuff, just stiffer king springs and shocks, a more agressive wheel alignment, 88kw 4age, and a disc brake rear end. He bought his car as it was for 3 grand.. (bargain!) In a straight line it was a bit of a slug, but at Eastern creek it was timed at 1:01. Definitely not a car to suit everyone [the vast majority dont really care for ordinary looking cars with high revving small capacity engines- in fact i didnt really understand it either until i drove one!]. The only modern car i can think of which compares to the driving experience of the sprinter is something like a NA6 Mx5. Unfortunately due to the initial D craze, prices for these cars have risen ... and to get a properly sorted clean example would be around 6 grand and above.
