    This is a little of point.I noticed that the summer/winter flap on my air intake wants to keep going back to winter,after switching it to summer.This is after I have taken a ride.You can see the lever in my photos, it is kinda blurry,but it is in the winter position..Whats up with that? And I want to add I thank you for all your help,but I do not have the instruments for checking voltage,pressure any place I would need a gage to do that.Not that it wont get done,I just dont have them yet..you know money,time,momma needs new shoes,baby needs dippers.I will keep you posted the best I can during my process of elemination.....Did any one have trouble getting on this site on Monday or Tues??

    OK,so more to add to the list. Check thermo,and battery voltage at idle.Im not sure what that has to do with my problem,but you guys know more about this than me.I will log it in my memory bank/write it down....Thanx

    No fpr.what should the presure be?It goes straight from the pump to the metal tube that is hooked to the valve cover.It feeds both carbs,then a u turn back towards the pump.Not into the pump, but past it,and down to a metal line along the frame.The one clear looking tube is coming from the radiator over flow.And yes,it has been crazy hot here.

    Steve,sorry I left that info out.Igot that wire prob.all squared away.I didnt mean to make it sound like the electric fuel pump was shorting out or part of the elec.problem.The reason I was checking out my fuel lines was because of my fuel smell.Thats when I found the fuel pump.I was reading that Datsun wa s using an electric fuel pump along with a mechanical one to stop a vapor lock problem.For some reason in my mind I am thinking that I may have a fuel pressure problem or a vapor lock problem.I can run my car balls out up to 110 120 mph.out in the country/rural with no problems.But in town stop and go traffic 35-45 mph.Its like it is loading up,popping, sputtering.Is this a fuel problem?

    Crawled under my z today to check out my fuel lines.I found that the electric fuel pump was disconnected and by-passed.I checked it and it is no good.My question is.Is it supposed to have a mechanical fuel pump and electric??

    Madkaw,dont know whats up with the last post,s?? I will try again to sum it up.I am in Rockford.And if I cant get this on my own,I just might take you up on your offer.The car has a crane cams fireballxr700 ignition.This was on it when I got it,dont know if that is good or bad.The one other thing that I had done,after putting on the rebuilt carbs,was to zip tie and tape the wires off of the fireball and from the coil together,to make it look better.last night I put wire covers over them to make it look neat and tidy.well it wouldnt start.So I undid every thing,and it started.So I know something is wrong with that mess.I also found that the wire that goes to the heat sensor in the block has a crack in it.I took it for a ride,and it run out very good.When it got hot,it started missing again.And I did take out the plugs,and they all have a light brown look to them.Here are some pics if it will help.Like I said last night in the post that disappeared mysteriously....If I cant get this motor to run right....I drop a v8 in it over the winter LOL

    My car has been running pretty darn good.It seems to still have a rich smell.Any driving that I have done has been short runs ,to work and back about 5 miles,joy ride 10 miles.Today out to my brothers about a 30 mile round trip.It was running good on the way out.The car sat for about 3 hrs before I left. On the way home after going through a couple of car lots at idle.When I went back to normal driving,it started to cut out.Sitting at a light to long will also put it in the same funk.It seems like when I try and lean it up it just gets worse.like I said I smell fuel so I know it is to rich.But it seems to run the best at this setting.But now I have the cutting out problem to deal with.I believe because it has been sitting for some time now,that if I go drive it it will run fine until I run it to long at low rpms.or at idle...:stupid:

    Ya Mike,I thought it might be a leak to.But I have checked every place I can and see no leaks at all.After more driving today, it seems to be the carbs.But it runs so good at this setting, I dont think that it is.And when I lean it up it starts to sputter.hmmm

    First off,Thanks for all your help guys.With some coaching from Steve from ZT.I got it right.She runs as smooth as silk.I had the choke cable set to high.that was causing a mis-adjustment in my carbs.Then I had my collector pipe, were it connectes to the exhaust pipe welded...no more popping!!!yahoo..So to every one that put in 2 cents worth..Thank ya,Thank ya,Thank ya..Now how about this one?I have a fuel smell in side the car.I see no leaks.That I can see.So fire away with your opinions.....oh ya, I see alot of different settings for spark plugs NGK,s that is.Im going with BPR6ES.Set at .40 ???????

    Hey Bruce how goes it.Yes I did all his last night.The more I turn them in or out,the worse it gets.I will give it another shot today after work.Should I be able to get a good setting and run the car with out the air filter on?I have a pretty good setting now with a little popping back through the exhaust during ecceleration on the down shift.

    Well,got my carbs back from Z therapy.They are the cats arse.But,I am back to square one.I cant seem to get them tuned in.When the car gets hot,it wants to cut out,sputter and pop.It seems to want to run better when I have the choke on half way.I did find a stock air cleaner and it seems to help.Any info would be a great help.......................Thanks ,Matt
