  1. There are NO cam bearings. The cam towers are line bored, that why you never remove them. If you do remove the towers you will have to take the head to a shop that can line the cam up correctly or it will wobble after a few 100 miles and then the head and cam are gone. Hope this helps

You should never remove the cam towers from the head! They are LINE-BORED at the factory that’s why they don't have replaceable bearings. You might check at your local machine shop to see if they can torque the bolts so the cam aligns. If you don’t the cam will wobble after a few months and then you will have to replace the head. Hope this helps you save the head.

Hi Before you try to remove the head there are 2 things you need to make sure you do. First DO NOT remove the Cam tower bolts. The cam is Line bored and you will never get it back inline unless you have a machine shop do it. Second is to make sure you install a small piece of wood between the cam chain and guide. If you do not you will have to remove the oil pan when the chain Tension pops out. Like stated before a rubber mallet should break it loose. Good luck hope this helps a little. Any other things you want to ask drop me a line at mikej707@comcast.net. I bought mine new in 1971 and have rebuilt several over the years. They are a great cars. Mike
