Thanks all! My key, being a well worn original does actually have a letter + 4 digit code on it. Am I assuming correctly that it is the lock code?

I have a 1975 280Z Coupe. The ignition switch works just fine, but the key (original well-worn Datsun key) can be easily removed in any position. Anyone have any ideas about how to get the key to lock in place in the on and start positions?

Remember, steel fenders are stock, the way the factory built it. If you ever want to sell the car and find a buyer who's into a factory correct car, he'll ignore your car. Also fiberglass, because it's lighter, often implies track use. This may also be a turn-off to a potential buyer, unless they plan on track use for the car. Fiberglass takes finishes differently than steel, so that can be a factor when you get down to the final finishing and painting of the car. Personally, I'd stay with steel unless they were badly rusted and replacements were too costly.
  4. Actually it has an air-flow sensor that operates with an air vane (damper flap) and not a MAF as is used in more modern systems. The system in the early Z is a licensed version of the Bosch L-Jetronic.

Check in the classifieds here and on other sites including Ebay. Price (value) is usually going to vary greatly by condition & location.

Another solution is available from John Washington at Reaction Research (ZTrix): http://www.reactionresearch.com/hoodvents.html Hopefully these won't bring anyone gastric distress!
  7. Stick with the FI. I've got a 1975 with FI , about 160,000 miles and it starts & runs great. Get the book Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management, by Charles O. Probst. The 280Z has a licensed version of Bosch L-Jetronic FI.

Hi! I'm new to this site, but not to Zs. My name is Marty and I live in Cave Creek, Arizona. I have a rust-free 1975 280Z: - stock 2.8L engine - oversize throttle body - MSA exhaust system - 5 speed Trans. from a later Z - Tokico struts & springs - urethane bushings all around - completely rebuilt suspension - rebuilt stock brakes - 16 in. Rewind wheels with 215R50 tires I'm currently rebuilding and recoloring the interior before I move on to the body & paint. I also have a MSA body kit and Xenon rear spoiler, which I plan to use on the body.
