I had a auto tranny that completely gave out n that's when the car started smoking and now i did the swap n have a 5speed in my z. Now i am thinking at the time i still had the auto transmission in there if some liquid got suck in and that's whats causing my car to smoke.:stupid:

hello names chris, i have a 76 280z I recently did a trany swap from auto to manual about a month ago. Now my problem is my car is smoking its white grayish smoke.The car has been sitting for about 6 months slowly working on it I finally got the trany in I started my car and the rpms were high at the cold start i tried to lower it but nothing worked . but after it warms up the idle goes down to 9rpm. I have check my plugs no oil on them, my coolant has no signs of oil either. but i did notice oil under my throttle body? can that be whats causing my car to smoke? I have also read that when a automatic trany gives out some fluid can be suck into the manifold so maybe that would also be whats causing the white smoke?

Hello im in the process of finally swapping my automatic tranny for a manual one I haven't been able to find a thread were it tells u the parts needed to for the swap so if any one knows about one please send me the link. So far i have the 5speed tanny n drive shaft, Metal hydraulic line, clutch cylinder, pedals. I stil have to buy the clutch n fly wheel but any other parts i should know about please help me out im still gonna continue searching on other forums but any help will b appreciated! thanx cris

hello I have a 76 280z with auto transmission and recently I been having problems going reverse as well as going forwarded. OK recently i just did a full tune up on the car everything was working fine till this morning. I started my car and the idle is good, when i was backing up i notice that when i step on the gas it would just rev and i wont go any where. So I put it on drive and the same thing happen. I have been feeling the lack of power when i drive it and first thing that came to my mind was maybe my cat went bad? what do you guys think? thanks in advance chris:

Whats up guys a few weeks ago my temp gauge wasn't working. At first I thought I just had a bad connection so I cleaned all the plugs but still no luck. So them after I went ahead and check the water temp sensor and found this the loose cable seem to becoming from what I believe is the water temp switch but im not sure. If you look closely you will see 2 small green spots were looks like cables were coming out of. I was over on zcar.com and I came across this thread but on the pics I didn't see that screw that I have the arrow pointing at.car is a 76 280z http://www.zcar.com/forums/702926/280z-question-newb

Hey whats up guys so I still cant get the water temp to work I am guessing I am going to need a new gauge. But wile I was checking the cables to see if they were on right i came across the floor temp cable that was disconnected I plugged it in and now it stays on n wont turn off? I read up on it on the owners manual and it says it turns on when heat levels are abnormal and engine isn't functioning right?

ok so I got the oil gauge working but still no luck with the temp one?

ok cool il check that out tom but what about my water temp gauge?

Hey whats up guys i just bought my car this past Friday its a 76 280z. When I drove it back home I notice that my oil/temp gauge was working. The oil one will move but eventually it goes back and wont move a inch I took the time to take my dash off and made sure the cables were on right but no luck. ? Idk if their might be a fuse I should check or just replace it?

actually be for I got a s30 my cuzin ahd a s130 we went hunting for a dash for him and I came across a perfect dash for a s30 but sadley I didn't pick it up never thought I was gona end up wit a s30

yeah you always find good stuff lying around the junkyards. Ima go check if I can find a new dash mine has a lot of craks if not il just buy the cover for mean wile

Hey whats up guys my name is Chris Mota. I just made my account on hybrid z and its a great site been stuck on it for the past two days . Well lets see I am 18 and currently a student. I just bought my first z this past Friday its a 76 280z got her for 750$. Car runs but in need of a tune up it has a automatic transmission but the guy I bought it from gave me the 5 speed tranny with all the parts it needs to be swap just need to buy the clutch.
