New ride 1972 Datsun 240Z
hey nice! we're in the same boat nearly.... I'm 40 and just got a '72 240 after playing with them in high school...all my friends had one except me I plan on putting in my homemade 12" bazookie tube / amp......and will return to my highschool days of bumping the Beastie Boys for starters.... mine is in worse shape but it should be a snortin road beast before I'm dead I took my spoiler off because it delamned and has rust underneath....I'm not sure if I'm going to remount it so keep me in mind unless you're going new... I like the rear flares and the fact that you don't have wider tires/bigger rims...I was hoping to do the same and just bought the flares last night on ebay! I've got that poly or FG air dam coming from Z Source, air filter, I bought the smoke headlight covers, bought fender flares, three cases of primer grey, two gallons of paint stripper, wire wheel and polish pad for the rims.... you have my favorite rims....let me know if you get rid of them.... here's to our Zs! http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39128 george

i was wondering if a wax coating or teflon, nu-finish...whatever...would work- what are the make/model of those rims...
well the Z Source place doesn't have any.....- body/paint work....240 questions
sounds cool.....a mirror like finish...blinding... lot of ideas for color running around in my head...I like a fanta orange color...then the tag could be fantaZ .... is that cheezy? or a dark maroon burgundy....- Z Car Source sponsor...
I'll check courtesy nissan too....I need a hood...and 300$ is kinda pricey...but I don't really know diddly about pricing....- Z Car Source sponsor...
he explained to me the deal with his shop....he's an internet delaer pretty much, with an option to pick-up...but there's no store front so to speak..... definitely need that poly front valence...mine is gone....- Z Car Source sponsor...
I just called the guy and let him know I found him through the forum here.... he'll be getting a order from me soon... thanks- body/paint work....240 questions
I'm going with the chemical method instead of sanding....- body/paint work....240 questions
hmmm...what kind of protection over the bare metal I wonder.....- almost there....awakening the z from wintersleep
the sleeper has awakened......... the distributor was 180 degrees off....is that possible? thanks to the previous owners if so....couldn't get it started.... but my mechanic figured it out...- body/paint work....240 questions
please note in this picture to the left of the gas jar....is an example of my paint issue....looks like a dry lake bed....cracked and shrunken...all the way to bare and rusting metal..... http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q224/Bounce19712/0719101251.jpg I have used a little sander I have with 150 grit and gone through the two layers of primer and paint down to bare metal..... there is still some pitting in the finish where the exposed metal was rusting...but it looks smooth enough to add sandable primer... question 1: anyone everseen a baremetal finish Z? like polished aluminum p-51 mustang? ... If this is possible I'd like to try.... question 2: I really have to take all the paint off down to bare metal on this z right? question 3: I have a 9207 makita 7 inch sander polisher...and a little 5 inch makita as well.... anyone know where to get 150 / 180 grit 7 inch sanding discs? thanks....- bad gas color chart :)
this gasoline works....amazingly.... I did double the amount of gas in the tank with 92 octane and add some Stabil.....z runs good...- what are the make/model of those rims...
no I have not.....still looking....shipping available? thanks...- what are the make/model of those rims...
I am!, those are the ones!...unfortunately seller will not ship from Ohio to AZ...but thanks for the heads up- bad gas color chart :)
don't know....different grades and I bet manufacturererers have diff color fuels... for the most part 87 octane is white / clear ? when fresh and apparently turns to a nice golden tannin varnish- bad gas color chart :)
this looks more bad than good doesn't it?- cylinder #1 is closest to the radiator right?
I can't seem to get by this attitude of pseudio. I really think it sucks . Maybe you can suggest to the moderators or owners of the forum to add a sticky to the Get Help with Your Z fourum area....it can say " JUST GO BUY THE BOOK BEOFRE POSTING ANY QUESTIONS" You don't want me to waste your time with knowledge I could have gleaned from a book? Why are you even here? your advice...on a forum group of Z hobbyists...is to go buy a book to get my answers??? Are you the most educated and experienced Z mechanic in the nation? Too hoity to deign to answerr a stupid question? you said get the Haynes book TWICE...not three or four times....I read alot of intolerance with your exageration....perhaps your blood sugar may have been low...so I'm going to move on...but I've got to wonder why you made the effort to even type out a response.... "I've told you three or four times to go buy a book".... jeeez. Ok.... please use the ignore function...I'm good with that. the only advice I've ignored (but not really since I've got 3 manuals now) is YOurs.....which BTW "go buy a book" is like tits on a boar hog for an internet forum. and if I've rubbed everyone the wrong way now by voicing my opinion....I apologize..perhaps I am wrong...but my gut feelings have steered me well in the past.- best way to confirm gas to carbs?
well there's gas pumping out of the line to the top of the carb bowl...and it drains from the line below.... however....it's a nice orange color.....with the tiniest hint of varnish smell.......it has 5 gallons of good gas and some Stabil added to it...but it's orange.....yeah..... orange. that's bad aint it? I've replaced the rotor but don't have the new distro cap or the condensor yet...UPS was way late today...missed out on it... .....mixing an old distro cap and a new rotor is pointless? or bad? Can I turn the key on and pump the gas out of the tank? 6 gallons or so? from the fuel lines up front? is that a drain plug on the bottom of the gas tank? it's pretty stuck on there...even a torch didn't help it come loose... just kidding... - what are the make/model of those rims...
