  1. I did buy a fine wire brush attachment and hit the western wheels in the first post photos above...they shined up nicely....
  2. got some! 200$ for 5..the fifth is a different make and a little different...but it'll make a good spare... and they come with "slicks" so i can light 'em up....
  3. I haven't seen anything discouraging regarding the frame...but haven't seen but the underneath of the front end, back end and topside interior engine compartment.... I looked at the front floor pans and by each door jam under the carpet.....pretty sound. I'll look closely and take some pics tomorrow... I took her around the neighboor hood this afternoon and was pleased. It'll beat my Tundra.
  4. ya'll will learn the info as I do....as far as I'm concerned, I've got my Z and only a large meteorite can take it away. thanks for the serviceable engine comment.....re-assurance is appreciated. It's tagged, titled and has theraputic carbs on the way....nothing will stop me now...muhahahahahahahhhaaaaaaaa B
  5. I'm somewhat confused because my mechanic is telling me If he were me...he wouldn't put a penny into the car...and just drive it.... I don't know what to do....listen to him (), find another Z, or put money into it this one.....
  6. splendid. Leakdown test will be the next step... the motor does start and runs good....but I do think I'm missing some pavement eating, tire smoking power..... thanks for all the explanations and patience....
  7. good to go for what? a rebuild? 100psi? what what?
  8. I'll get another tester and post results...thanks fellas...
  9. that's good news.... there is a nice crack in the glass lense of the comp tester gauge....
  10. carbs will be fixed soon. as in like new from Ztherapy.
  11. here's the plugs: plug #4 is whiter on the other side.......
  12. ok round two compression readings are: 1 105 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 105 6 100 I stood at the throttle linkages while warming her up and revved up to maybe 4500 or so.... some blackish smoke comes out
  13. It looks like I'll keep the existing header...and possibly get a little larger exhaust...
  14. so after the intial compression test...should I add oil to the cylinder to see if compression goes up to isolate weak rings if compression is below a certain number? and how much oil should be squirted in a cylinder?
  15. and WFO? wide &^%&% open
  16. heh, I gave Bruce my credit card info earlier this moring for shiny carbs. yes, reborrowed the threaded comp tester.... will check them out later this afternoon..
  17. WTO ...had to look that up..... it's the same as WFO thanks for the quick responses....I owe ya'll beers when you pass through AZ... yeah...engine was cold....pulled one plug at a time.....and no throttle setting so...with the first three plugs being completely black and sooty...and the last three being in new condition after one hour of driving on new plugs....is that a carb setting?
  18. ahh OK... I borrowed a comp tester from my mechanic...he said to watch the needle twitch 5 times to get the number.... got home, pulled plug #1 (closest to radiator), screwed in air hose to plug hole going about 50-60 % of hand tight....attached comp gauge to the hose fitting..... turned engine over watching the compression gauge needle tick 5 times.... I let it go a couple more times as well on #1 and it almost reached 125psi replaced plug#1 removed plug #2 (second away from radiator)....screwed in air hose...hand tight....attatched gauge....turned engine over watcing five ticks on the needle occur... yes the engine runs right now.
  19. just checked my 240's compression and found: 115 75 75 50 50 115 the first three plugs were black and sooty...the other three were almost new looking...becasue they are...(maybe an hour on the new plugs) what are options? Leakdown test first? buy another motor? rebuild mine? Sea Foam? check valves/adjust? timing chain? thanks
  20. wow...solid GOLD information fellas....thanks. confused some more now on the water...but if MSA headers eliminate the manifold then that's that huh? I was leaning towards re-lining the water and hopefully confirming it is not clogged.....temps here in the morning are 10-30 degrees for months....but if water doesn't do anything for cold start then it's not an issue except for the Dyno resluts as mentioned...hmmm.... say, do the MSA headers eliminate the manifold or does the oem manifold stay? those rusty pipes are an eye sore....I want to either replace or remove. Also I'm thinking the vent tank and assorted fuel lines running all over the place can go away.....I saw a thread on re-routing the fuel lines to eliminate the tank.
  21. so I'm gonna go with a ztherapy SU carb swap on my 71. this poses some removal options with the smog and balance tube, I think. I'm still confused as to what is smog and what is water circ.... my air galley pipe looks like a long stretched out turd.... (read rust) I'd like to make it go away if possible. 1> I had thoughts of getting the MSA header with exhaust upgrade... so will this help in the desmogging process? as far as fittings for the oem header and rust..etc? 2> I haven't found a desmogging for dummies tutorial out there yet... is there one or something close to it? 3> I would prefer to remove the air pump, and other associated smog stuff....I can follow the manuals for this without killing my Z? (it runs now) 4> so i live in Flagstaff, AZ...7300 feet elevation.... COLD starts.......this smog stuff doesn't have anything to do with the 3 screw water passages and the heating aspect for cold starts does it? I think I need to keep this system intact and replace the old lines. 5> is it possible to order some new hose/lines and jump on replacement without causing problems? and what type of hose is recomended? thanks...

I just pulled the bumpers on my 72 240z...and ordered the poly air damn with brake ducks (maybe AFLAC, but I'm not sure) from Zcar source.. 165.00$ I don't think the bumpers are going back on....I like the shaved look.
  23. as far as carbs goes.... I should have an air filter for them up here in the volcanic dusty Flagstaff area?
  24. I've got a truck but no hoist...
  25. ahhh yes, i remember back in HighSchool talk about putting a Maxima? cam in the l28s?... thanks for the input fellas.... I went through the tech tips but did not use a key word search for "engine mods" "improve performance"
