man your just out to start a argument with me arent you? you sound just like my arrogant father that says age is everything. im 22. ive owned 25+ cars since i was 17. most of them old. a few of them newer/new. i worked at a chevy dealership for 2 in a half years in the service department. I drove every new-old chevy car that you can think of up to the new 2010 comero before i left. ive test driven super charged z06's and test driven turbo charges ones and compared the difference. ive sat in a lot of new cars vs old cars. Regardless of my age being 22 ive owned more cars in these last few years then most 50+ year old men/women have. but you dont see me saying i know more then any other person? or have experienced more then any other person? i have no desire to show off what ive accomplished in my life, or that im any better then anyone else.. from the last few reply's you have quoted me on shows nothing more to me then the fact that your annoyed or threatened by me one way or another whether it be because of what i know, what ive experienced or the fact that im 22 and have experienced more then the normal 22 year old. who cares? im not picking away at everything you say criticizing it am i? and in another note everything i ever said was an OPINION. i was agreeing with something SOMEONE ELSE said FIRST. but yet you attack me with that nonsense about my age and what ive experienced and not the original person making the statement that he thinks his newer Z has less comfortable seats then older ones. its all a matter of opinion as in im not telling anyone else their wrong im putting my 2 cents in. and this all goes with my other statement that im obviously NOT welcome here by you and possibly other people. So take this as my last reply. good luck to you all and your Datsuns, and maybe ill see some of you around, maybe not. Have a good one.

best way to confirm gas to carbs?
its obvious that wether im welcome here or not, that ive caused anger and frustration with you and possibly others so i see no reason to stay because the vibe im getting is you and possibly others, is that you/they wouldnt mind if i left or would rather leave then stay.

Oil under pan
if its a manual tranny use 80-90 weight gear old.. and its simple to fill it up. every car takes a different ammount and i dont know what our datsuns take but there is a filler hole and a drain hole. open the filler hole and if nothing comes out its not over full. if some starts drizzling out consistantly then its full. if nothing comes out just start pumping oil in there until it starts consistantly drizzling out then plug it up with the plug and wipe everything off. you might just need to drain your oil and fill it back up again. the oil could be so broken down its just thin and getting by the shift rod seal.

ya the reason i brought that up is i used to do major 4x4ing before i got into the Z's and that was a really common issue with manual 4x4 trannies like on my 97 jeep tj and on my 88 suzuki samurai. so i knew it was at least possible. and yes there should be some kind of seal that goes with the mechanism that holds the shift rod down. if your not racing it or anything id check to see if its over full first and if it isnt then id check the rod, you should be able to check it from inside of the car taking the boot off and looking down. (thats how ive always done it) unless this is a automatic tranismission then you might have some valve issues or pump issues (im not a auto tranny guy so im not sure)

i guess it all depends on the person. i cant really provide any input because im about 5"11 normal leg lenth and so on.. but there are a few things you can do to lower your seat like the bushings under the seat and maybe thinner foam. or you can just install a sun roof and open it while driving .

Oil under pan
ya its really hard to see from the pictures.. but i agree with these 2. that looks almost exactly where its comming from. or maybe out of the area where the shift rod is and then dripping down on the drive shaft. but more likely to be your rear seal

bruce i was just about to suggest that . or you could do a fuel pressure test if you have the tool. you'd notice the pressure being low after the engine has sat for a few minutes, then raise and should be steady at crank.

caj ive also noticed that newer cars have the most uncomfortable seats ive EVER experienced. they are always really hard and flat. not form fitting at all. i still think my 280z with 32 year old foam in the seats are more confortable then the newer cars. btw how is the new 370z vs the 350z? i really want one.

if you see any leaking around the gas tank. thats a dead give away. as to the smell in the engine compartment, who knows might be a leak there to, im sure you have checked all the rubber hoses for cracks and made sure they were tight. also i dont know SU carbs but a lot of carbs have a clear bowl window so you can look in it. id see if its filling up to much or not filling up enough which would indicate a leak in the line somewhere and possible performance issues.

converting fuel injection to carburation

States' Emission Laws...
ah. well id still be screwed if i got in a wreck having liability only. they will just total the car and pay me some BS price like 500 bucks. and say thats what it was worth. as far as the other stuff. im sure my anual miles are to high and im sure the car doesnt look pretty enough.

14mm? your talking about the little drive lines going to each rear wheel right? i just had to take my passenger one off on my 280z and im almost positive they were 14mm for the bolt and nut. EDIT: im a idiot and didnt realise your were asking what size as in how long and thick they are, not the metric size of the wrench end

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat so all your saying is i can get classic car insurance and my car wont have to be smogged? no one ever told me of this and im pretty sure i didnt see that on adot's website. or i over looked it. if i can get classic insurance and it not cost a arm and a leg, ill be extremely happy about this.

HELP! need to pass emissions by the 16th!
i had a temp tag for the car. they only give out 30 day temps and a 3 day temp. the 30 day temp is up on the 16th. and im going to get the timing fixed, and the coolent temp sensor hasnt been replaced but i replaced the plug and wires. and i believe it works because when i unplug it the car idles high and real nice and smooth, but when i try to drive it like that it spits and spudders. if i plug it in, it idles low and rough but drives good. also what is a FSM

Coil voltage drops from 10 to 6 when cranking
i think everyone will need a bit more info. like what do you mean by cranking? as in starting? maybe your battery is low, or more like your alt isnt producing enough power at crank
