  1. thanks this is impressive! I will have to investigate this site more. I will be open to other suggestions also so if anyone has any I would appreciate it.
  2. According to Datsun Z garage "the '87-89 (300ZX) LSD was a 3.70"
  3. I am having issues with my FI relay connector, I have cleaned the connector used dielectric grease on it and I am still having issues. Does anyone have a good remedy for this? I understand that I could re-pin the entire connector, do you guys know a good place i can pick up some terminal inserts?
  4. about 4 months ago when it was last running I soaked them in decarbonizer. I am currently debating on buying new injectors, any suggestions on where i can get inexpensive injectors, ya gotta po-boy here.
  5. I got my Z running on 5 cylinders, finally! I found a short going to injector #3, I repaired it and then shortly after I found a shorted out injector. Thanks for your input! -Stangrage
  6. I am referring to the terminals on the injector connector itself. Positive going from the Resistors and negative coming from the ECU. I have already tested whether the Dropping resistors are getting voltage and they are. I have also tested the main ground circuit and also all ground circuits to the ECU and all are normal. Ill read over the suggestions again and determine the next course of action. thanks for the suggestions, hopefully tomorrow I will be back with more important info.
  7. Here is a new regiment of tests that i did on my Z today. All 6 injector terminals get this signal. With ECU connected: No Pulse Both terminals get positive signal I get 11.3 Volts on Pos and 11.03 volts on Neg With ECU disconnected No Pulse (of course) Pos terminal gets Voltage Negative terminal gets no voltage (i did not check for open signal) At ECU connector gets Voltage Remember I am checking the Injector to ECU circuits only. I am assuming I have a short in the system somewhere but I am unsure how this could happen to all six injector connections.
  8. Yeah it makes sense, I only get this connection when the ECU is connected, otherwise there is no continuity to the ground side on the injectors.. Apparently there is still an issue with the PCM grounding the signal itself. I have tried grounding the injector via the connector at the ECU and there is no injector click.
  9. Yeah I just discovered that the issue i am having is definitely part wiring. I found the ground wire on the injector had continuity with the positive wire on the dropping resistor. I would say as of now it could be a 50/50 problem for I have not corrected the wiring. I have not a clue of how this happened. I plan on getting some wire tonight and re-wire the ground wires to the ECU.
  10. I do get a pulse signal directly to the ECU but Ill check to see if this resistor/ Tach is working or still connected. Thanks for the reply.
  11. first, I have downloaded the EFI PDF file and looked it over. I have done all of the no start troubleshooting I could until it instructed me to plug in another ECU and give that a try. A pulse is evident from coil to ECU I get an 11 volt signal to each injector terminal (in other words, no ground signal) I plug use my LED test light, which has green and red LEDs, red for power and green for ground and i get a pulse in that case not when an incandescent bulb is plugged into the injector plug. I have consistent fuel pressure, spark and compression is normal. I have used artificial fuel to confirm this along with the conventional methods I have tested all circuitry coming from the ECU and everything is going where it is supposed to. All signs point to a faulty ECU, but I am nervous about replacing it. I want to be sure about it and i want to test the unit itself. I swear up and down that there is a way to Test the ECU by continuity and resistance values through pin to pin in the 1975 Datsun 280Z factory service manual. Does anyone know where to point me when it comes to finding a proper diagnosis on the ECU itself? Thanks for reading!!
  12. I have both wiring diagrams but I cannot really afford to print and laminate the '77 harness so I can compare them both (unemployed and a full time student) ; but can anyone tell me the differences between the '76 engine harness and the '77? I have it installed but I am not getting signal to the fuel pump. I heard there were differences with the MAF sensor that link directly to the fuel pump. any one have any info? Thanks, Randy

Both are nice cars! welcome to the forum!
  14. This is my dream to get this car up an running and perfect. If I got the engine started, I would not be a total failure like i am now. This would definitely be a boost in self reflection for i am thriving to achieve a dream of making a name for myself. I want to be an modern muscle car builder but I am starting from ground one; i want to be a ASE certified technician first, then move onto the creative works. Thanks Dave I will get on it; I just need the knowledge to get through this and that is why I am here. Thanks again!
  15. Hello everyone, My name is Randy and I am 26 years old; I have owned my 1976 280Z 2+2 since senior year of highschool in 2003. My Z was my highschool senior project and I was planning on rebuilding the engine and repairing the interior components and make the car legal to drive on the road. My main goal was to utilize this Z to be my first drivable car, take my girlfriend (now wife) to the prom, and graduate with this car. Unfortunately two of those things did not happen and lets just say that I graduated with it and got a B+. I first replaced the engine with one that I could rebuild better. My mentor, a long life friend of mine, and I tore down the motor I purchased and found out that it was a motor from a 280Z that had a 240Z block. Wanting a stock configuration we returned the motor to the junkyard and tore down another Datsun engine. I successfully rebuilt the engine and installed it. Then I ran into issues that I am still dealing with and I have not been able to fix. My engine had a rat nest on top of it so alot of the injection harness has been chewed up. The previous owner rigged up some wiring into a novice backyard mechanics nightmare. Anyways I can write a novel so Ill wrap it up. It is currently garaged and I have a good used engine harness from a '77 280Z, the interior is gutted and I have a good rear seat i picked up at the jy for $25. I have not got my Z started yet, but I feel i am close and I am worried even though I have a new wiring harness I still have complications. This car is very important to me and I fought tooth and nail to keep it even though I have been had offers from many people for it and my mother wants me to sell it, my wife is also getting sick of this car just sitting there. Thanks for reading, Randy
