My insurance did a national search. I would have got 7500 but I thought the odo had only rolled once. I would stay on them.

My 240Z has possibly been killed
Mine was totaled 3 weeks ago. It had 217k miles, carpet was jacked up, seat had a tear, paint was below average, ect. I got 6k. I printed out 5 pages of 72' 240z's like or near mine and gave them to the agent when he adjusted my car. He adjusted it on a Monday and I had a check on a weds. My car was NO where near as nice as yours. Rob

It's time to make room.....
I have one you want the door that the defrost switch is on? I will pull it off the car. Insurance company is going to send it to auction anyway. I already stole the shift knob for my buddy that I got the car from. It was the last car his father had owned before he passed.

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
They offered it to me for 1100.00 If anyone wants to buy it I will contact the agent he would probably still sell it to me. Car is fixable and he will give me a NON salvage title. I have pics of the car before accident. TONS of good stuff on it. I just couldn't see taking 6k, buying the car back, spending lord knows how much, and ended up where I was before the wreck. I liked the car but I am back to my comfort zone...small car with a chevy v8.

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
well I was going to get 7500 for my car....miles were wrong instead of 117k was 217k, BUT< I still got 6k I paid 1100.00 for! Bought a new ride tonight, 1975 Monza 2+2 factory v8/4 speed car. Interior looks brand new, has factory tack and gauges instead of idiot lights. the little v8 blew up years ago so has a 350 in it. Relatively new cragers and new tires. 5 lug, a glove box FULL of service done to the car from 1985 up. Had the entire 4 speed rebuilt in 95. Car is straight as can be. No rust in the floors or anything more than some surface rust in some scratches. Factory ac car(missing compressor).

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
I met him in the driveway with a copy of the auto trader that has the 240z on the cover, 8 pages of printed out 240z's for sale and what they were going for, and NADA printed out on the high and low of 240z's. He was very fair on the look over on my car. I will be honest the paint is fading and i have bubbling and he gave her an "average on paint. and "above average on interior and mechanical". It is probably more that I DIDN'T cause the accident and I am injured. That and he had NEVER adjusted a 72 Datsun 240Z and was digging the little car. That being said, I won't accept some lowball offer from them.

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
Ok adjuster just left. What they are going to do is a national search for 72 Datsun 240z's within the miles of mine "117k", above average mechanical, above average interiot and average paint. My check will be what the average cost of that type of car is. After I find out the amount I will be back in the market for another 240z. Pretty cool that this little car has taken a Chevy hotrod guy and made me like the little 240z's.

I didn't have full coverage but DID have unisured motorist, which is paying for a rental, missed work, and my car.

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
It should be. Auto Trader I am sure isn't just a Texas thing as it has cars listed from all over the US. It is on the magazine stands now. I know that I am having a hell of a hard time finding another 240z that I can afford. Adjuster will be here this morning, I am sure this is going to turn into a fight with the insurance company.

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
Don't have to worry about the hurt part my back is killing me. I had a simialar deal with workmans comp from an injury that resulted in 2 neck surguries. I am not signing anything until I know my back is good to go.

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
I told him that if he totals it then I better get enough to replace it. He stated he would base it on a national average price that a 72 datsun 240z sells for. But where does he get THAT number from?

My 72 Z was involved in a hit and run
I was in Arlington fixing my sons car and on the way back home was at a light behind a truck and got slammed from the rear by a 4 door lincoln doing what felt like 50mph but was prolly 30mph. He then backed up and hauled arse. After a trip to the ER I got to looking at my car today and although I think she can be fixed, I am not sure she isn't bent. Adjuster stated over the phone it would probably be a total. I have been looking and 240z's are doing well. Classic Auto Trader has a good artical on them this month and the 240 is on the cover. It says 6300 low 19500 high and 10200 average. Average being good 20 foot paint, no mechanical issues, ect. Which my baby was. I was more worried about my car than me and soon realized that I was hurt. SO. My car had 117k original miles, NO dents, slight bubbling at bottom of doors, no a/c, and everything works. All glass good interior fair, original window sticker and manuals, ect. How do I do my own homework so that I can be informed when he tries to screw me? I want to make sure I am informed and that I get a fair value for my car. If anyone can help me with this please respond Robert Adjuster will be here in the morning

Need advice and a guiding hand
Ok I have NEVER owned an import, and although my 1972 240Z is an import I really don't look at it as one just because of the cool factor it has. My builds have always been old school hotrods. V8 Vegas, Pintos, Gremlins ect. My weak spot is small cars with thumping V8's. However that being said I really don't want to V8 the lil 240. It is just totally new and very cool to me to have a straight 6 in a tiny car. I would like to build a 6 for it. But I have no clue where to start. Do I stay with a L24 or go L28? I want to stay carb'ed and do not want to use puters, ect. That being said I am not looking to get the same performance out of a 6 I would get by shoving a 383 stroker in it. Not looking to break the bank either. Just want to build a very healthy 6. Can someone point me in the direction of a good build article or maybe share what they did to one they have built? Thanks in advance. Rob

Agreed value. What's it worth?
Hey did you do the fender vents or is that something that is factory? I am a first time 240z owner and really like the way that looks. Rob

New ride 1972 Datsun 240Z
ok I have the car tagged with Antique plates, and got an inspection sticker even though in texas the plates override the inspection sticker. I already KNOW I have to replace the trans mount and there are 2 u-joints in the rear that need replaced but I am going to replace all 4 since I am there. I have a shimmy in the front end when slowing down and/or braking. Any ideas what is causing this? I know I should just replace everything but at 45 I am going back to school so money is an issue to some extent(isn't it always) Just looking for advice on what to look for first. I must say that I LOVE this car. the only time I EVER looked at a 240z was for the purpose of slamming a V8 in it. I have come out of stores countless times to have people walking around the car, and since the Datsun badges are gone they only see the round Z badge on the pillar behind the rear 1/4 window. So it turns into "Hey man this is an awesome looking car! What is it?" I do miss my chopped top V8 Pinto I sold to buy the 240. But Not enough to get rid of the Datsun to get another!

New ride 1972 Datsun 240Z
Well the little car is cleaning up nicely. I still have to replace a trans mount and then change the fluids in the trans and rear. I am going to do another oil and filter change this weekend as I have drove it a week and I wanted to clean all the gunk out that was in it from siting 5 years.

what are the make/model of those rims...

New ride 1972 Datsun 240Z
Replaced every 1/4 " gas line there was on the fuel system under the hood from the bottom of the hood to the dual carbs. Replaced every vacuum line there was under the hood. I was buying tons of lines and nothing that was going to give me a good feeling money so I bought an Accel coil for it. Put the correct valve cover gasket on it and purchased the correct bolts, replacing the ones he had on there along with the old beat up gasket. Then new battery terminal connectors for the new battery. No leaks anywhere. Cleaned up around all the carb linkages and drove it to the house. Idled awesome and had alot better response. Little thing with cruise these winding country roads great. Going to change the oil again in about 5 days and add some Lucas to it. The more I mess with the straight 6 the more I like it in the car so I am not even thinking about V8 swap anytime soon. Car is too original to start screwing with it.

New ride 1972 Datsun 240Z
Has anyone built their own replacement fuel rail by the valve cover before the carbs? Mine would prolly "get me by" But since I am already there replacing all teh hose I might as well run NEW metal lines. What is up with the little blocks? Are they just connecting points for the rails or do they reduce the flow or does the dia stay the same even thru them. I want/need to attempt to replace them and would like to use aluminum fuel lines to build my own rails with some friends of mine. We are all V8 guys and teh little Datsun has ensared them like it did me. The car is just cool with the inline 6 in it. All the hosing is getting replaced Friday so i might attempt the metal line replacement as well. If you HAVE built/replaced your own could you throw some pics up? I am just running into some stuff that can't be ignored. I can drive the car but why do so if it isn't even at half of what it should be. He car has 103k original miles on it so most of the issues are just age and lack of maintenance. They heli-coiled a bolt hole for the valve cover on the back p/s, and the heli-coil came out when removing valve cover to clean the valve train of the horrid condensation/oil/foamy stew there was on the head and in the top of the valve cover. Being a chevy guy and always having V8's my smart arse goes to the parts store and gets 3/8's fuel line. Well that is GREAT on a V8 Pinto, not worth a damn on a 72 Datsun. Is the fuel line from the fuel pump to carbs all 1/4 or some metric size fuel line? Thanks Rob text 903-487-8657 I sure want to drive this thing more than 2 miles a day to cousins shop. She spent the night over there tonight. Thanks in advance Rob

Any Texas Z Club members on here?
Talking about for guys in areas of Texas to get togather. Good Lord relax, wasn't talking about another site like this or anything bad about this one. I have major sites I go to, but I have small local ones I go to for my local car shows, meet and greets, or to BBQ at a buddies house and invite a bunch of car guys over. I was in NO way implying that I was going to build a be all know all Z site. Robert Craig

Any Texas Z Club members on here?
I just got a 1972 240Z that AI am prepping for the road. All original and 103k miles. Maybe I need to get my brother that does puters for the military and is a puter nut to build a Z site for old Z's and builders. Or my son! He went to work for Microsoft and designed websites for the University of Texas main site and frat sites for extra cash. I am sure there are nice guys in that group. But my Z has a small dent here, faded paint(will buff out I hope), old school slots and I just got it. I HATE when someone in a newer car whether Chevy, Ford, or Mopar get snotty. I am a Chevy guy true and thru but took a venture though Ford because I wanted to do something different. This is my FIRST import non family car that I CHOSE to own and cruise. Kinda stoked about it at 45yrs old is cool to mess with something that has alot of cool factor, is old, and not alot of on the street. I am SURE I have the only 240Z in this area that is a daily. I never see them.

New ride 1972 Datsun 240Z
The more I mess with the car the more I like it. I am finding a bunch of small things that need attention but they aren't abuse things they are neglect things. Things that arise from a car just sitting, but sitting indoors. Gonna polish the hell out of the valve cover before it goes back on. Stereo I installed was in my chopped Pinto. Sounds awesome in little ole Z.

What do yours look like? I found these and just sent an email with an "offer". He is in my state so I would get them pretty fast.
