  1. They look sharp! Not my particular style, but I can definitely respect them on a Z car. Like them on the green.

Oh sweet! Pictures??? You have a build thread? I'm super stoked to get started on it. As far as "set back," I mean I am actually moving the dash back toward the firewall an inch or two. The distance the dash sticks out now isn't conducive to pulling out the inverted center dash and making it more sloped. Plus, the deep speedo and tach gauges make it possible to push them back a little without worrying about space behind the dash in that area. Ultimately, making the dash "thinner" (pushing it back toward the firewall) may make the space in back of the dash less, but I intend to replace some of the larger, bulkier units with smaller, higher efficiency units (the air motor, air filter, actuator for climate controls, etc). Plus, I just can't pull the angles on the dash out without setting it back. If I did, the center dash would end up over the shifter area. Electric actuators... Huh. That sounds like a good idea. What's the advantage to that over vacuum control? Less chance of vacuum leak problems? I was thinking about that on the way home from class after reading your post initially and thinking maybe electric wouldn't be so bad. Also the testing the custom fitment. If I and up producing the dash, users will have to heavily modify behind-the-dash components, but I do want plenty of space for the A/C components, whatever someone decided to put in. Thanks for the input, it's much appreciated. I need all the ideas I can get because once I get the mold formed, this thing is pretty much goes in stone.

Finally took off the dash Saturday night and am starting to strip the car down to the firewall. I am removing the metal dash frame off the dash, and using that in the car to fabricate a custom fiberglass dash I intend to wrap in PVC leather. The ultimate goal is a dash that: Looks modern (shooting for an RX8/WRX style instrument cluster) Has space for 6 gauge pods (maybe five, we'll see) Has double din for touchscreen. Has upgraded, modern round vents Is set back 1-3 inches compared to the existing dash Can accommodate vacuum actuators for climate control I've been planning this for about 2 years. Finally taking the plunge!
  4. Pulled out my entire dash this evening in about an hour. That is a PITA to get out... I'm doing a custom fiberglass dash with more modern curves. While trying to get it out, I removed the driver seat to get better access on my back. Then I realized it: I plan to install racing seats anyway. That said, I have a pair or old and very beat of seats I listed for $80 for the pair on the classifieds. If anyone is in Socal and wants to recover them, have at em and get them outta my garage.

Yeah, it took me some time to get used to as well, but overall you can see more ads at once, and it's easier to find the parts you need. That part is awesome. On the flip side, if you just like browsing, there's more stuff to confuse you rather than just heading to "Early Z Parts," etc. But the map feature.... Whoa.... That is so awesome.
  6. Yeah, I would think so... But idk what it is... At the moment, I can still access the site via proxy, but not if it's coming from my home network. :-/

Really? Man, they're not as simple, but I kinda liked it better since it's designed more like an online auto classifieds/parts store layout. Easy to navigate even though there are more steps. Anyway, I can see if you like the really simple format preferring the older version.
  8. Hardway: Thanks for the response. At least I know it's worth it to finish it. As far as the other three questions go, I still can't find anything on weight with a quick Google search (and I'm lazy, ). But the 2001 Camaro tanks hold 16.8 gallons, compared to 13.2 looking around on spec pages. I've owned z28s in the past and they can get 30mpg no problem with light driving. If a car weighing a little more than half of that can get the same, that means range would be almost 500 miles to a tank. I like the possibility of that.

:-O Do you guys do this for a living or something? . Dang that's a lot of work...
  10. Yeah, same thing I've been getting here... The proxy workaround uses a proxy anonymizer to hide where you (and your computer) are really coming from. You connect via HTTP proxy through someone else's computer or server (and therefore IP/location), and the information they receive is forwarded on to you. This works great if you want to hide where you are coming from, but not so great if you want to hide from your end where you went. The TOR network does the same thing, but uses an ever changing web of servers to make backtracing through the network an impossibility. If I remember correctly, its idea stemmed from the government's need to allow untraceable communication between operatives (could be wrong, but that's what I heard). What I did was just use the HTTP proxy through a site such as http://www.guardster.com/free/. I enabled scripts, so the forum scripts would load, then typed in hybridz.com. It's a bad idea to login on these sites unless you know the proxy server is VERY trustworthy, since I could technically submit my own server to them, and then log passwords and credit cards as people visit websites (though why you would need anonymity to order something is beyond me). ANYWAY.....point is: The proxy makes it look like I am actually visiting from say, Mr. Joe TweedleDee from Chicago, though I am really in SoCal. Forums automatically log visitor IPs, especially those of registered users. If you are a registered user and visited on your home network, your IP might be blocked. HOWEVER, since Mr. TweedleDee in Chicago probably doesn't have an account here, his IP is not logged as a user, and therefore not in the system to be blocked. *deep breath* Probably more than you wanted to know, but interesting stuff I used to be totally into. Both these systems are actually very old ways of hiding traffic, but because of the way our infrastructure works, we're stuck with them. Why? Because in this world, we use networks, meaning you MUST be contacting something from somewhere. Thus, if you want to be tracked, you have to make it look like you came from somewhere else. Until we have an system which allows one way communication between a user and website (which is impossible if you want to SEND anything [order forms, upload pictures, posting on a forum]) or switch to a completely anonymous algorithmic networking system....you always have to be coming from SOMEWHERE. At least, that's how I understand it.
  11. So I'm thinking I am going to put a Camaro gas tank in the Datsun as I do the LS1 swap. This means that right about now I should start thinking about cutting out the spare tire well and modifying mount points before I prepare the car for painting. With that said... Do I have to remove the entire spare well, or can I leave a couple inches for storage out of it? Does anyone have suggestions on mounting tips for the tank? How much weight does this save when you consider empty tank weight (I believe the camaro tank holds more, right?) And with that said, what's a used tank worth? It has no rust at all and I've sanded it down and going to paint it black again with the spray gun. Debating whether to sell or keep it (if it's worth like nothing).
  12. Naw... I'm still locked out. Maybe if you guys get a chance and the problem is cleared up for everyone else, you could give a shout-out for me? For some reason it is really not wanting to let me back in. I got in this morning briefly with my iPad at my school. Thinking maybe the breach involved MAC address and IP address blocking since at home it won't let me. Could be either/or... Idk... Must have been one hell of a security glitch/hack.
  13. Huh... Your clearly mediocre, but nonetheless appreciated contribution to this thread has been noted. Thanks! Glad to know it's not just me. I was getting worried for a bit. When I used to work with a hosting company, we had attacks on the forum all the time. Wonder if that is what happened. Hmm... Idk. I just like that it seems to be more active on some forums. But sorry to hear that. That and there are more posts on "hybrid" zcars, too.
  14. Hey guys...so whatsup with HybridZ? I've tried logging in with my username (same as here), and I can't? Says I don't have permission to view the forum. I used a proxy work around to view the website, and my username hasn't been put on the banned list, so what gives? And why would I be banned, anyway? I had over 100 posts, if I remember right, and my last post was simply about finally taking out my L26 motor and triple webers. Tried contacting them with no reply, but definitely a little frustrated. I don't think I did anything wrong... I mentioned getting rid of the webers and engine in the post, but it wasn't even a for sale post and you just can't post in the classified ads without donating....to my knowledge. So WTH? And even if they didn't like that, why the hell wouldn't you give a warning? Anyway, no idea what's going on...trying not to jump to conclusions...but still getting a little pissed... . Anyone else with the same problem?
