Smoke from unburnt fuel tends to be black, but from burning oil it tends to be blue. The sniff test is good.
  2. The black-out of the radiator bulkhead and grill mount tabs is commonly overlooked with many repaints.
  3. The five grill mount tabs were also painted black for the same reason.
  4. PM sent.
  5. The car was originally painted as an assembled shell: fenders, headlight buckets, hood, valance, doors, rear hatch, fuel lid - all were installed for painting. So... yes, the engine bay including the radiator bulkhead, was part of the paint effort to get a full coat of body color.
  6. Hey Cliff, First - Happy New Year, I hope you and yours remain safe in the coming months. Here's a pic of a recent horn pad repair I did. I opened a channel around the plastic collar with a small Dremel grinding bit, then added a light wire collar to tighten the cracks. Tighten some, check for fit, tighten more as might be required. Jim
  7. I recommend you add your build date and VIN to your signature line. That info helps a lot in answering parts questions.
  8. +1 on the Molotow liquid chrome pen.

The lower rear part of the frame has a insert, here's a link to MSA's repro part. The OE Nissan part is also still available at MSA. https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic03a05/34-1052A

  11. Ha! Clearly the seller is overly self-impressed with the perceived value of being in a free registry. P.T. Barnum would approve.
  12. Phil Ray is a good guy and genuine enthusiast, his registry is not a scam. Phil is actively trying to get the current whereabouts and condition of as many 240Z's identified as possible. Its just a personal quest of his.

  14. Put the wrong emblems on the car and you'll see it with regrets every time you approach the car. That's a beautiful car, small price to keep it authentic.

Looks great! +1 on no sealant. Consider a light coat of grease on the tank neck to assist it seating in the tube.
  18. Sorry Sean, all the remaining sets are sold. You had already purchased one set, it probably is in Springfield by now. I do not have any of the small caps. Thanks, Jim
  19. BTW - if you don't use an air pump, you want to cap #4 and avoid unfiltered air into the carbs. A 1" chair leg cap from a big box store is a perfect fit.
  20. #5 is for a line from the Vapor Flow Valve (see pic). It is a small valve/manifold mounted under the ballast resistor. Fumes from the gas tank and the crankcase are sent to the carbs for combustion.
  21. Contact Steve at 240rubberparts.com. He is currently out of stock on one style set but might be able to give you a date for availability. All of his products are absolutely top grade quality! https://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/4423037

So... we're thinking inhibitor switch and relay for the second set of points?
  24. jfa.series1 posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
The owner will be away from the car for a week but did have a closeup pic of the relay. I can get 25230-89918 and R3-11 visible #'s. I noted there are two black/yellow and two green wires visible. Beginning to look like the diagram in @SteveJ post #7.

Thanks guys. A request for more details has been sent to the owner. Jim
