Unique Fuel Rail
I just spotted another unique aspect of this rail: the return nozzle opening is a "huge" 1/8th inch diameter unlike the pinhole opening in the typical 240Z or 260Z rail. This suggests it was (1) feeding a much lower fuel pressure to the carbs or (2) an allowance for a much higher fuel pressure entering the rail - possibly from an electric fuel pump.

Unique Fuel Rail
@240260280 Keep on Hoovering, its out there somewhere. I Googled some RHD Fairlady Z engine pics - the few that I found all had a rail with the pivoting first mounting tang and offset supply/return nozzles.

Unique Fuel Rail
We share this rail design our our cars - it is the typical Series 1 style. There are two notable differences from the '71-72 style: the right-angle tab on the next-to-last mounting tang that you mentioned and the step-down in the tubes. Ours has a gentle slope down from the wide tang forward to the next tang. The '71-72 has a distinctive step-down at the back end. The unique rail I found has this same distinctive step-down suggesting to me it is also from the same years.

Opinion : Oem vs Aftermarket Windshield Seal
Altho I have not specifically lifted the edges to inspect for sealant, to the best of my knowledge none was used. I wanted to watch the install but the shop had strict rules about no customers in the work area. J3

Opinion : Oem vs Aftermarket Windshield Seal
Jim - I have the Precision seal but it was purchased about 2010 when I did my resto. The installer had a lot of experience with S30's, had no difficulties getting my OE windshield back in. The SS trim went in without problems. There was one lower corner where the seal did not fill completely - a dab of sealant handled that. Jim3

Unique Fuel Rail
In working through the refurb of a group of fuel rails I came across one with some unique properties. I'm hoping @kats or anyone else with insight can help me identify the unit - is it possibly a JDM / Fairlady part? The first pic is the unique rail with a typical '71-72 240Z rail behind it for comparison. The second pic shows two unique properties: the supply and return nozzles are equal length versus offset, and the first mounting bracket is fixed - not on a pivoting insulator. The third pic shows a small brace installed in reverse. The fourth pic shows a wide mounting bracket versus a narrow one. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Proof that the government (any government) can always throw enough money into a project to make a problem disappear (note that I did not say go away). Keep a Mae West close at hand as you travel this area!

(Possibly) stupid restoration / paint question
Look at this way: the hold downs were already welded into place when the car was painted at the factory so they got sprayed body color. Yes, there might be some cracks in your fresh paint when you bend them but that would also have been the case at the factory. As to the media blast you might wrap them well with tape to protect the coating, then unwrap for painting.

Engine cooling/smog delete questions...
Great car!!! Your #4 pic is the Flow Guide Valve, it routes crankcase and fuel tank vapors into the air filter box for combustion. Two ports face the engine, one port faces rear. The lower of the two ports connects to the crankcase breather pipe, the upper port connects to a small forward-facing tube on the back of the air filter, the rearward port connects to a hard line rising from the left frame rail (coming from the fuel tank). Since you are running the stock air filter set-up, there is no gain by not connecting these ports. If you leave them open you are adding some small amount of vapors to the atmosphere. #57 on the catalog diagram: http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsuns30/Datsun-Z-Index/Engine-240Z-260Z/Emission-Control-Device @siteunseen your car may not have one now but it did at one time - it was stock thru '73.

Rear strut gland nut
The ball and socket on the front side means there is absolutely zero compliance on the T/C rod moving rearward - every impact will be transmitted to the body. Urethane bushings will be almost as severe in my opinion. I suspect they recommend a rubber bushing on the backside to reduce a hard rebound snap pulling forward on the T/C box mount. The design of the T/C box is oriented to resist rearward forces, not the other direction. Just my $0.02 worth.

Rear strut gland nut
Oh sure... blame it on the guy down in Texas, he's such a bad influence on everyone! And, certainly I'm also responsible for the extra purchases as well. bad dog!!! I installed that ball and socket kit many years ago (still have it) when I also swapped out the front control arm bushings for eccentric bushings. I was doing a lot of autocrossing back then. The changes did tighten up the front end but at a cost of civility in the everyday drive experience. The kit came out in favor of rubber T/C bushings when I restoed the car. I see it as a good option for a track or AX intensive setup. My work on the shock swap will also wait until a break in the temps - still running mid-to-high 90's here.
